I've had my EV9 GT line for about a month. Traded in a 2020 BMW X4M. First EV for me, and I'm LOVING it! So far, best car I've owned. We'll see if i feel the same after a year. 😉👍
Like with every car review video I’ve seen on you tube there’s always a guy in the comment who’s gonna go, I bought mine and I love it 😂😂😂. OK good to know
I have the exact EV9 you guys have here (the black Long Range) and its an incredible vehicle. Its my first EV and I love everything about it! Fantastic review!
We've put about 2000 miles on our EV9 GT-Line so far and still loving it. No problems or concerns with ours. There are a couple of minor differences between the Kia and our old Model Y that we find annoying, but otherwise we think it's a fantastic car. And great for families with multiple kids, which is why we bought one.
@seanm4612 look at the IONIQ6. I LOVE mine. Probably less app features than Tesla but pretty sufficient. It's Highway Driving Assistant 2 in the SEL and Limited is pretty fantastic, yes it could be better but it gets the job done. The only thing that can fit in the front is the Level 1 "charger" I'm getting pretty close to what Kyle's car was reading in Francie's last trip video. That's about 3.5 miles/kwh average. OTA basically doesn't exist which can be annoying. You can get the updates off a computer onto a USB drive and load them that way but it's clunky and I feel I'm one behind and can't force the newest update. Get a dongle for wireless Carplay/Android Auto. Probably the biggest annoyance is the charging network. There's a lot near me coming online, Tesla put in like 15 units, Electrify America put in 6. They're just not as prevalent unfortunately. But I've held 240kW all the way to 55% when possible. Typically my sessions take 15 mins, after sitting perhaps an hour waiting unfortunately. But if you have a home EVSE that is not a common problem. I just got two years of free charging so I'm going to use it. Yes I realize I'm part of the problem. The door handles presenting out when in park can pose a security issue so just remember to lock vehicle if going into park and sitting. But like I said I love it!
I've had my Wind Trim EV9 since May and have put almost 20k miles on it. Loving it so far outside of the charge port overheating when AC charging above 32A. It's being replaced under warranty. Edit: And in regards to the volume not going above 5, if you have the voice projection speaker function thing active, sound audio will not go above 5 so that people in the back can hear your voice over the speaker. And also with Utility mode and locking the car, if you turn Utility mode on, roll the window down on the driver's side. Exit the car. Reach into the car through the window, press the door lock button, then roll the window up in order to have Utility mode on with the car locked. Press the indent in the door to unlock the car. Easy~
I bought my EV-9 in June, and I have put on more than 5K miles in road trips. The only bad thing I have had is the map system. I have found myself within 9 miles of where I need to be because the routing terminates too early. Everything else I have experience in this GT version has been better than I expected. Thanks for your videos. It made my decision a lot easier.
We love our GT-Line (chosen b/c my hubby wanted a HUD). About to drive from Sacramento to Palm Springs in a few weeks and looking forward to our first long road trip.
I’ve never been an EV fan, but circumstances required me to get a 4th vehicle for only two years. Because of the deals, I decided to try a EV9 . As long as one understands and or can live with the limitations of EVs, the EV9 is currently (10/24) an exceptional value. KIA is currently marking these down $14,800, offering a 2.7% equivalent money factor, and a 62% residual. With 0 down, on a 24 month lease, that puts the LAND/GT models, in the $670-$750 a month range, This will depend on options and any additional dealer discounts. I’ve been impressed with the vehicle so far. I will agree that the climate control locations is odd, but usable with the center screen layout. I don’t mind the on/off and drive stalk. The software suite is odd to say the least. Once I understood its layout it was easy to operate. Kia seems to update it frequently. The ECO Mode is great for around town. While not necessary, the Sports Mode is amazing quick for a vehicle this size (sub 5 second 0-60). The autonomous driving aids work incredibly well. The seats are very comfortable (subjective to me). A 20%-80%, on the 38 amp included home charger, takes around 6 hours to charge at night and cost me around $8 a charge. I charge about once every 6 days or so. The range is more than enough, unless your lifestyle requires hundreds of miles a days. The 350watt DC charges (when available and working…lol) really are as quick as advertised. I have used this a few times on a longer trip and it’s doesn’t really add that much additional time to charge along the way. It would be totally unacceptable for a person who doesn’t like to wait or stop for 20 minutes or so, twice, on a 4-5 hour trip. If you’re in the EV market and need a larger vehicle, this should be on the short list.
I've had my EV9 (Light LR) for a few months now and love it. Just did a 4000 mile round trip in it. Easiest drive ever. Only issues I had on the trip had nothing to do with the EV9. The only thing I wish I could have from one of the higher trims is the HUD, but otherwise, it's great as it is.
EV9 light long range is a major value. Test drove the new Land Cruiser then this EV9 light long range. Even though they are not the same category, they are priced very similarly. For on-road city/freeway driving, the EV9 drives really smooth and accelerates fine (especially city driving). For the owners who will actually use the LC offroad-- go with the LC. But for majority of drivers who stay mostly on road and some dirt roads to access hiking trailheads, the EV9 will impress. Especially since they are leasing so aggressively, (299/month 2k due at signing. Thats better numbers than leasing a sportage). Sidenote: they need to add KIA/Hyundai to the Tesla Supercharger network in early 2025---🎉
You said it. The 70-minute videos are just too much. I'm floored that Kyle can watch one of his hour-plus videos and say, "yep, that's as efficiently as I can convey my message.". I have found myself not clicking on a review I want to see, but I just don't have the hour to get through it, so I choose another reviewer. This one was refreshingly crisp, light, personal, and effectively communicaed.
This is the formula then. Record Kyle while driving somewhere, and he can only talk as long as they're driving. The downside is that Out of Spec does a lot of LONG trips. But I do tune in for the deep dive, others are for the quick overview.
Thanks for this video. I thought about getting a Mach-E as my first EV until I saw the Ioniq 5 at my local Hyundai dealership. Now I want one of them. Will probably look at the N-Line trim.
I’ve had both - Ioniq5 LTD and Mach-E prem extd range. Ioniq5 is superior and way way better at charging, has v2l, the N will be really fun. Much better value!
This model is the sleeper, everyone wants a dual motor but this is the sweet spot. I’d honestly would love to see the long range in AWD like they did with the EV6.
I had the EV9 for a few days on a test drive during winter, so I was really curious to hear your thoughts from long-term ownership-thanks for sharing! Overall, my first impressions of the car were mostly confirmed. It’s great to see how it performs over time!
If you tap the + in the top right of the climate panel, it expands it to the main screen. Just traded in 2018 Cayenne for Wind AWD and as long as you don’t drive it super hard, it’s much nicer. Comparable seats, much quieter and more comfortable, materials are at least no worse. Wind > Land for second row bench, 19s with more sidewall, and matte wheel arches since gloss will get very scratched with daily use. Averaging 3.2 mi/kWh with best drive of 4.7 over about 11 miles at street speeds.
Just picked up a Land yesterday, mostly because of the positive reviews like from OoS. Thanks for the content! Would have loved to see a 0-100% charge curve video though.
We’ve had a Kia ev niro for about 3 years, and we love it. But with our growing family (baby and toddler) we need something bigger. Especially since we will likely have a third kid. We’re probably getting this car soon, and so excited. The niro has been great but doesn’t really fit our double stroller. We’re keeping the niro, as thus far we have been a one car family.
I have a Land with Boost. It's probably one of the best vehicles I've owned. It blows both Model Ys we've had out of the water, and I like it better than our previous Model X. I agree with almost all of the negatives though, still not digging the shifter and I constantly have to fiddle around with the infotainment system to get to what I actually need to. That said, we got our (at sticker) $72k Land for $60k...and it's more than worth it for us.
I also have mine for about 6 month. It the EU version (1st Edition). Well equipped and very good drive. I drove it from Lisbon to Amsterdam. I just received my first OTA update. The navigation has some additional info and the bluetooth volume can now be set in one place instead of the phone plus the car. I have a problem in the read seat belt. It gets stuck often. It seems a design flaw. Anyway, ver good car.
We got our new LLR for 49k after incentives. Hopefully Fort Collins Kia plans on going even lower with this one when they sell it. I’ve seen even bigger discounts since we picked ours up in May as well. One guy in Missouri leased a Light Standard Range with a cap cost of 37k 😂. They’re buying it out immediately.
Just don’t get used to having phone as a key and cabin pre-conditioning, or any other app functionality, with your Kia unless you’re prepared to shell out $20 a month once your trial ends. Does my Mach E charge slower. Sure, but it charges fast enough and phone as a key and cabin pre-conditioning will always be free of charge.
When I got my IONIQ6 it was "fresh" off the truck and I asked them to leave as much plastic as possible on it. I'm still finding plastic to peel off 4 months later. I need to check the trim like the end of the video.
The eGMP platform has a major issue that hasn’t been resolved for a few years now. The ICCU failures are quite common and Hyundai/KIA just replaces it with the same part so it will again when you’re out of warranty eventually. Some people are waiting over a month for dealer to get parts. Once the ICCU fails, the car is not drivable.
This has more or less been solved with the latest OTA updates on the EV9. Ioniq/EV6 seem to still be having issues. But it was knocked out early on the EV9.
@@fiehlsport Time will tell. They tried to fix it on Ioniq/EV6 with software updates and it didn't work. Do you know if the EV9 actually has a different ICCU?
iccu problem has been resolved. However, issues that arise due to low-quality electric chargers with strange software are inevitable. If an ICCU problem occurs, it is best to replace the charger.
@@fiehlsportA friend of mine has been a Kia buyer since around 2017, and back in Feb/March they received their EV9 GT-Line. The ICCU was a major problem for them, the vehicle was dead in their garage at some points. It took weeks for the dealer to properly diagnose, receive parts, and fix the issue (Our local dealer sucks). Kia corporate engineers had to step in and evaluate their vehicle. Since the issue was fixed, they’ve had no issues and love the car. The dealer provided compensation by installing crossbars and other accessories onto their vehicle, free of charge.
I actually called Fort Collins Kia. They seem great. Not many deals for out of state, and only ship for free at MSRP. They said they expected this is the only Light Long Range they expect to get since they desire AWD in Colorado. Also, I'm hoping to finalize a lease for one in the next couple of days from a local Texas dealer. Wanted Land but any deals I could find were still 70% higher lease than Light LR. The Blue/Brown Land was very nice looking.
Kyle I love your videos, thanks nerding out and sharing good info on EVs! That said, please stop saying the Kia EV9 is so great for families. It’s not. Cargo space is pathetic, third row isn’t good and pretty much every video you see with them, the 3rd row is folded. It’s great for SMALL families. Families that could get away with a 5 seater. If you actually need to use the third row on a daily basis, it’s not a good option at all. If you only need 5 seats then a Mach E or Model 3 or a host of other options work great and have about as much cargo space as an EV9 with the third row down. Any family trying a road trip with an EV9 and actually needing to use the third row will not have enough space for cargo. Which leaves you with a rooftop box, which butchers range. As far as I’m concerned, the ID Buzz and R1S are the only practical real size family vehicles.
It's incredible how short-sighted Hyundai/Kia have been with their EV software. They're now running 2 different versions of software on their EVs and soon to be 3 with their EM platform coming in just a few years. They're going to be forced to support 3 different operating systems for who knows how long.
My EV9 has been a total disappointment!!!! Multiple issues!! 1- Apple carplay. Voice massage distortion 2- Rear captain seats rattling while driving and after 1 week at the dealer Kia said this would be an inherent condition 🤦. 3- center console armrests stops broken and no time for replacement parts. Sorry but after multiple trips to Kia dealer and emails to customer care!! There is no solution to any of these issues!!! I also own an EV6 also had some issues. But they were quickly resolved. No complaints with my EV6. I was very excited when I got the EV9 but after 5 months I can say with certainty that it has a lot of quality issues!!!!!
I really love my EV9 PREMIUM package (Canada). I didn’t have the same issue about charging station proposed in the Kia made map (video from the return from Vegas). It’s most of the time offered me to charge at stations at around 20% left. Good for me. But the system could be more intuitive for the map system. My only complaint in 3 months.
I saw a few recently in Europe. It's a good looking SUV and actually has amber turn indicators!! Why do the US versions get blinking brake lights?? Has anyone actually thought to ask Kia?
Interesting Jordan how you mention about crazy speed and 0-60 times when most people don't use it. Watched a Podcast from the UK where they covered the whole speed/performance and 0-60 times mentioned that sounds like a number(more than a number) of Model 3 owners who crashed it within the first few weeks of ownership due to the instantaneous torque and possibly showing off and unable to deal with it having just migrated from their old dinosaur car. Most people just want a car and don't need 0-60 times or how fast it went around the Nurburgring.
@TassieEV I have been saying that exact thing for a few years. When I was a new driver my first car could barely go 60 mph! The fact that young, inexperienced drivers can buy cars that can accelerate to 60 in 3 seconds is a recipe for disaster!
My thoughts after a 1350 mile road trip through Europe: - missing basic features like auto-lock - does not save any driving preferences - great charging curve - quiet and comfy inside - auto lane keeping assurance moves left to right of the lanes constantly. Left right again and again. - app is clunky - sat nav is clunky - does not allow to set your soc at arrival or departure - beeping fest, needs to deactivate every single time - does not save 1pedal driving. - had mayor issues charging in IONITY network (will confirm in way back)
Super dumb question from someone who’s never owned, or even driven for that matter, an EV but researching for my next car purchase. Both Jordan and Kyle commented on the software in the EV9 and the gap between using CarPlay vs using an EV’s built-in route planning. What is the perfect solution to that? As someone who is used to having seamless wireless CarPlay, not having it seems like a step backwards technology-wise. But of course you would need integration with the car’s battery system to effectively route plan. Is there a solution where Kia, or any EV maker, will integrate such that you can use CarPlay (Google maps) to route plan?
In a market for an EV, living in Toronto Canada. My question would be with charging infrastructure, if I want to drive from Toronto to Quebec City is about 800km or 500 miles, would I be able to use Tesla charging infrastructure.
The EV9 sounds like a really good car but I did laugh a bit when the 'larger' front trunk was still like less than a third of the space under the hood - and clearly smaller than a Lucid Air's frunk.
any issues charging the EV 9 at electrify america or other non tesla charging stations? Interested in Kia EV9 and trading in my tesla model y (need larger SUV), but 800V architecture doesn't work well at Tesla superchargers until they upgrade to V4 at more locations. I've just heard of nightmares with electrify america or other non tesla charging stations being down or not working well. I can charge at home using the tesla charger with adapter, just road trips would be a concern is all.
Hot take: the 200hp that the EV9 RWD has plenty of power for the average driver, and the 0-60 is right on par with a ton of other vehicles in the same size class. It would be better if they’d retained the higher battery voltage the smaller battery has (and the additional 15hp) but 200hp is totally fine. It’s almost a full second faster to 60 than my older Suburban. There’s only 2 big things I really wish my EV9 GT-Line did better: significantly better efficiency (at least 10%, but really more like 25+%) and useful route planning. The route planning (as previously noted) is awful. The navigation itself is fine, the route planning is nearly useless. I’ll probably swap out the stock 21” wheels and massive 285 width tires for something a bit more efficiency minded when they wear out. The 12V battery did die on mine once. I jump started it and never had another issue. There have been multiple software updates to address it. The battery preconditioning does work with the built in navigation, but you can also use the manual preconditioning button, which is nice to have as an option (wish all manufacturers would do that, including Tesla). Kyle, I know you don’t think the orange light on the dash to let people know that the HV system is active is needed. I’m one of the people who says what it’s there for. I don’t care if you think it’s needed or not. I think every car should have it. It’s not there for people like you who don’t know the difference between a wrench and a socket. It’s there for people who actually work on their own cars, or work on them professionally (like me). Sorry if you think that’s offensive, but if you’re going to call me (and others) out in a video, I’m going to call you out. It’s not as easy as you think to disable the HV system (non destructively) on most cars, nor is it necessary if you can determine that it’s on/off with a quick glance. If you’re actually working on cars on a daily basis, that sort of stuff matters
So, basically, the car is great and can't find any fault unless you think really hard nitpicking. Even so, those nitpicks are better implemented than other companies. 😊
Test drove one while ago. Doorpanel sucks. Armrest in door is way to narrow and to far away. Im 6 foot tall and could not place my arm relaxed on armrest in the door let alone on top of the doorpanel. Rest of the car amazing. But if i want to travel far i want both my arms in chill mode.
I wonder if Kia could have a degradation buffer they aren't talking about and after 8 years it's fully used and the battery degradation becomes visible.
Utility mode is bafflingly useless. It's like no one even considered how it might be used. Would like to have the option to default i-Pedal on. Sound clarity of the Meridian system is it pretty meh coming from BMW/Harman Kardon. No idea why it's necessary to go and turn the car off from the stalk to be able to lock it. Way too many button presses needed to turn off the beepity-boop of the mandatory in EU speed limit and attentiveness monitoring systems. All of it (except maybe the sound) could be fixed by software and it would get a full thumbs up, but I'm not holding my breath. KIa: make those OTA updates actually matter and you will get so much word of mouth goodwill from your customer base.
@outofspecreviews With rental car companies selling old EV's, plus EV's showing up at auctions. Can you put together a video on warranty companies for EV's?
GT-Line owner since Mid may, it has already been 65 days in the garage, total coolant leak after 4 days (happening during CC charging) leading to battery failure a month after, the Kia specialist had to come in to replace part of the battery cells, gave the car back to me without properly testing/charging, the car was dead again within 2 days. New leak, hose is dead, we're waiting for the expertise to legally give it back to the dealership. A f... nightmare. It is one in a million event but kia service was horrific, they plainly lied to me 3 times already.

@Max - good luck in law school. I’ve been practicing law for 27 years and I’m a fellow Wahoo too!
Wow 6 Months have gone fast.
What exactly is better than the model y
@@tysonfinn1470 Ride quality, comfort, amenities...mostly
I also have mine for about 6 month. It the EU version (1st Edition).
Well equipped and very good drive. I drove it from Lisbon to Amsterdam.
I just received my first OTA update. The navigation has some additional info and the bluetooth volume can now be set in one place instead of the phone plus the car.
I have a problem in the read seat belt. It gets stuck often. It seems a design flaw.
Anyway, ver good car.
good to hear about Max.
Base model does include V2L, just doesn’t include the adapter.
Kia EV9 is great 👍 👌. Get the Volvo EX90.!!. We need to see range tests, efficiency, software, etc. 🎉😊
Great review!
Very compelling, but I'm kinda holding out for the Lucid Gravity.
I am too but thinking of caving in for a Tesla just cuz of the charging & everything else.
Lol, family truckster 😂 thanks, Jordan, Kyle, and Alyssa ❤
Volume stuck to 5, is because you had the cabin talk function turn on.
When I got my IONIQ6 it was "fresh" off the truck and I asked them to leave as much plastic as possible on it. I'm still finding plastic to peel off 4 months later. I need to check the trim like the end of the video.
I wish the short range had some coverage too. There’s some great deals popping up and it’s hard to say no to for the price.
Your lease deals in the USA are amazing, you're looking at 3x more in the UK.
lol the transition was amazing.
This is covered under the drivetrain warranty?
Tap on big plus icon on the top right corner on screen it will take you to main screen.
Jordan, hear me out - ideal 2 car garage is an NC Miata & a Kia EV9 wind, eh? 😜
Francie should have taken this for her drive back home instead of being crammed into that little Model 3.
Heated rear seats are awesome for cool mornings for the kids.
You do realize the big bad 69 Hemi Charger 500 did 0 to 60 in around 5 seconds. Today's EVs are so dam fast 0 to 60 it's crazy.
18:15 Transition we didn't know we need it haha!
It's incredible how short-sighted Hyundai/Kia have been with their EV software. They're now running 2 different versions of software on their EVs and soon to be 3 with their EM platform coming in just a few years. They're going to be forced to support 3 different operating systems for who knows how long.
Love your videos
Just ditched my Model 3 for the EV9 Long Range Light, I absolutely love it. Drives like a giant Tesla =)
My EV9 has been a total disappointment!!!!
Multiple issues!!
1- Apple carplay. Voice massage distortion
2- Rear captain seats rattling while driving and after 1 week at the dealer Kia said this would be an inherent condition 🤦.
The new one is definitely the EV 6 GT.
My thoughts after a 1350 mile road trip through Europe:
- missing basic features like auto-lock
- does not save any driving preferences
- great charging curve
- quiet and comfy inside
- auto lane keeping assurance moves left to right of the lanes constantly. Left right again and again.
- app is clunky
- sat nav is clunky
- does not allow to set your soc at arrival or departure
- beeping fest, needs to deactivate every single time
- does not save 1pedal driving.
- had mayor issues charging in IONITY network (will confirm in way back)
This is very helpful. These small stuff would annoy me enough to not buy the EV9....yet. Beautiful vehicle but they gotta fix these bugs.
So many words just to say it’s all good.
Man I wish you could get a rwd with eco wheels with all the land perks that would be my personal pick
Wait until you see the complete redesign of the Kia Telluride it's bigger and longer coming Next Year.
You can adjust the sensitivity of the dashboard buttons 14:16
Hyundai and Kia really needs to hire some world class software engineers. Besides that, I am not surprised about all the pros and cons.
Love my EV9 Land AWD. For some reason fort Collins Kia lists this engine in the EV9
Engine
1.6 L 4-cylinder Engine and Full
The EV9 sounds like a really good car but I did laugh a bit when the 'larger' front trunk was still like less than a third of the space under the hood - and clearly smaller than a Lucid Air's frunk.
I'd love to know when the 12V battery is being changed. I live with a constant fear of depleting it :)
I did not know about the swipe down feature!
any issues charging the EV 9 at electrify america or other non tesla charging stations? Interested in Kia EV9 and trading in my tesla model y (need larger SUV), but 800V architecture doesn't work well at Tesla superchargers until they upgrade to V4 at more locations. I've just heard of nightmares with electrify america or other non tesla charging stations being down or not working well. I can charge at home using the tesla charger with adapter, just road trips would be a concern is all.
Just get the Model X
Best of luck Max @ Law School. Miss you already!
Would be curious to see a long-term review of a Land with Premium package.
I am moving to Colorado just for the cheap electric car leases
The bench seat is Peter North approved
So, basically, the car is great and can't find any fault unless you think really hard nitpicking. Even so, those nitpicks are better implemented than other companies. 😊
18k miles. The only negative issue we have is when switching profiles it's messing up clock/dates.
Here but time for tea brb
Thank You Everybody for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth....
Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste
🙏🏻 😊 ✌ ☮ ❤ 🕊
Why don’t you like wireless CarPlay? Are there downsides compared to using a cable?
Test drove one while ago. Doorpanel sucks. Armrest in door is way to narrow and to far away. Im 6 foot tall and could not place my arm relaxed on armrest in the door let alone on top of the doorpanel. Rest of the car amazing. But if i want to travel far i want both my arms in chill mode.
I wonder if Kia could have a degradation buffer they aren't talking about and after 8 years it's fully used and the battery degradation becomes visible.
Is that passenger talk feature available in other cars? That could be such a handy feature!
What about towing with the light RWD version?
I found this by looking up alternatives to my current EV9 Light, I'm at 16k miles, It vibrates and rattles and dealer says hmm all looks well :(
@outofspecreviews With rental car companies selling old EV's, plus EV's showing up at auctions. Can you put together a video on warranty companies for EV's?
I am waiting for Kia to fix the issue with charging on SC... they really need to fix the up conversion at 84kw only.
That’s not going to change. It’s a voltage design difference that will never change until they redo the entire car.
Fun fact, a lease on a EV9 here is 1100€/month. That’s $1200 US.
Suomi perkele.
Less than 300 bucks per month is a ridiculously cheap deal. I just had a look at the equivalent offerings in the UK and it's at least £700 per month!
Not sure where you are getting $300-$400 for a lease. Mine starts at base level at $535.
The only thing i hate about this suv is how low it is. If this was as high as the Rivian, it would be an amazing buy.
It has 7.5” of ground clearance. Are you going to off-road it?
EV3 vids comming next?
i need Hyundai to make improved headrests for the Kona - or seats even. i need 2 cushions on my drivers seat in order not to be in pain
The volume not going above 5 was probably because you had passenger talk enabled.
I laugh at the "Rudolph" 12V charging LED that my wife's Kona EV has as well.
That light is only fitted to the NA versions of the EGMP cars. It does seem to be rather pointless.
