Old heads are the best. I had this one I worked with and one day we took down a bunch of old copper pipe and miscellaneous junk that was taking up space in the storeroom. He comes in the next day (which was his day off) took the scrap to the junkyard next door and promptly returns to me with like $250 in cash that I sure as hell did not expect. I was like what’s this?? He said “well you helped me take it down it’s only fair you get half.” I will never forget that man one of the kinder people I’ve met.

I remember working at HEB with a old head he was there for 7 years. My 2nd day he was training a whole group I was put in his cause I was going to be a stocker. Well a couple months went by and I was the last of the group. We would act a fool all the time, he told me he wished he had a friend like me when he was younger. Last year in October marked 2 years for me. He was there with a small cake he ordered from the bakery that said, "To many more years!" He was the coolest. On January 3rd this year he passed away. It still doesn't seem real I wanna believe he's gonna walk in the door and be like, "Yo, I bet you were crying all ugly huh." He had the best humor. He will be missed dearly. I Love You Freddy.

Legitimately, one of the actual nice things about being an adult is becoming friendly with people of all ages through work, extended social circles, etc. I'm 32 and have friends ranging from mid-twenties all the way into their fifties. One of my closest friends has been working at our company for longer than I have been alive. Contrast that to high school where people weren't even friends with people outside their own grade.

Agreed. At first, in a new environment surrounded by elders, you feel like some dumb little kid. But eventually, something in your brain switches, and you realize that you're just as much of an adult as they are. They have the exact same legal rights that you do, and should be treated equally. Just because someone is older doesn't make them superior.

From 2018-19 ish my best friend was a 67 year old man. Old people are a trip. When they say they feel "young", they actually mean it bro. Its not just a saying. Its only when they look in the mirror or feel that body ache, that they realize they're getting old, but in their minds they're young. Don't treat them like old folks in terms of like conversation. (we worked in the same department area). i kept telling him. “von your heart hurts and you can’t breath maybe you should go to the hospital since this happened like a month ago.” “nah grasshopper.” oh he called me grasshopper btw. he would always say i’m “going places” and that i have to “get back to penn state to get out of here.” he said his great cousin is in the NFL. i always asked for a picture but he never brought one. he walked me across the street to a thrift store and said he made thousands refinishing pieces of furniture and selling them online. probably true. he had suspicions his wife was buying things overseas to divorce him. she was a head nurse at a hospital and he said she lays his cloths out for “some reason.” that’s when i started to assume he had dementia or early onset dementia. usually it’s delirium when it first starts. he was 65 and working for fun. he had a nice retirement and pension. he “furnished a piano for saddam hussein” and was “sad when it got exploded when the americans bombed his house.” you can’t make this shit up
he got fired after showing up late day after day thinking the place needed him. i took over the sanding and finishing department at 18 by myself lol. i had never done anything like that before in my life and i was running the department. we have million plus dollar orders for the military and shit and it was just me back there. i’m quality control essentially. all me bb. my first full time job was a fun one no doubt. i made 20,000 dollars and now i’m back at penn state.

I sold appliances at Sears with a guy who started in the early 70s. Back then it was considered a great job; he was one of the last still grandfathered in under a pension. So many crazy stories from that guy. He made the company millions in the time he worked there; was always a trip when an upstart ASM out of training would try to get him to change how he did things. Sure enough, he outlasted them all to his retirement.

Great story bro, but I gotta question if you don’t mind. From what I’ve heard from teachers to friends and everything, factory workers are at a constant risk for disease (specific in the lung), and I was just curious, how do you guys usually try and lessen that risk? Or do y’all just say fuck it and take it as it is😂?

True story! Those OGs always put you under their wing. The sad part is when they pass away. Work is never the same and you realize the company don't give damn about you because they barely even acknowledge that deceased employee. 20, 30 years of employment and they just replace you. Talk about dedication, he had his leg amputated and never missed a day after he recovered. I miss my friend HOP.
