Absolutely with you on this! To continue your plate metaphor, it’s come out more and more that intuitive eaters are less susceptible to food marketing and psychological manipulation than people who restrict- it seems to be the restriction itself that demands overconsumption later.
So, if you apply that idea to something like spending (not a perfect 1-1 but whatever), adding in things that get you to the results the purchase promises for you (a feeling of self expression maybe? Or comfort in your surroundings? Or extra time? Delighting in something beautiful?) in a way that doesn’t require a purchase feels way more effective and doable because you remove that gnawing hunger feeling by satisfying it in a different way, instead of telling yourself you’re bad for having it at all.
I don’t think she’s still very active, but the blog Yes & Yes by Sarah von Bargen has some amazing thoughts and strategies around this exact approach. I learned a lot of great stuff from her :)

Yes! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I love your extension of the metaphor to include intuitive eating. I feel like it makes perfect sense and really emphasizes the importance of the individual experience when we “consume”. What’s healthy for you, might not be healthy for me, and vice versa.
I’ve never heard of Yes & Yes before. Really looking forward to checking it out!

Christina Mychas is another RUclipsr to look into. This is an interesting topic… influencers saying don’t but this! (Instead…. I prefer that) minimalism is another obsession for some of us.

I started my RUclips channel last year and wanted to speak on this too, but I got scared of being on camera after making a single video lol. I am loving your channel so much. 🙌🏻

I’ve wanted to start a youtube channel for so many years and it took me until now to get up the courage 😂 being on camera definitely takes some getting used to. I’m so glad you’re enjoying it!

    Hi Rachel lol
You look great here… ok I’m listening about the no buy… (but after I know where that sweater comes from with the unique neckline)

Hi Amanda 😊 thank you! It’s from the brand The Knotty Ones. I think they still carry this style. They do a big warehouse sale 1-2 times a year, which is when I purchased mine, so keep an eye out!

I started my process back in 2017, I try everything. “No buy” was one of them and I fail. What I have learned over time is that I don’t do good with quitting cold turkey. What has worked for me is to identify my weaknesses and replacing the issue with something contrary.

Trying everything is definitely underrated ☺️ I find trial and error has helped me so much to learn what suits me personally. Thanks so much for sharing your experience! It sounds like you’ve learned a lot about yourself along the way.
