    I was a 4yr old little boy at the time of the 1962 World's Fair, and yes I WAS THERE. I love the 8mm camera in COLOR. That was the Seattle I and my siblings KNEW and grew up in, those were GOOD TIMES.....Now that City NO LONGER EXIST.....WHAT A DAMN SHAME!!

    Great film clip! Was a good area to grow up in. we lived 3 mi North of (what was then) little 'ol Bothell but just over the Snohomish line. I was 11 that summer. We had many out of town friends & family visit us to go to the fair. from the top of a huge fir tree i liked to climb i could see the top half of the space needle with binos- just sticking out over the hills 20 miles to the Southwest.

    Was a great time to live & work in Seattle! Friendly people and never a thought about safety. More civility back then, definitely. The lack of hi-rise buildings downtown is breath-taking, compared to today!

    What stands out to me, the '62 World's Fair was less than 17 years after the end of WWII. How impressive the country seemed.

    Beach camping footage appears to be near La Push, WA. You can recognize the big island at the mouth of the river. It's James Island.

    I remember taking my first ride to the top of the space needle as a kid. Those huge columns zipped by on the way up, then the door opened at the top, and the gap between the door, and the entrance seemed like the Grand Canyon to me! Yikes! Seattle Centers hay day was an incredible time in history. So very grateful to be a part of it!

    😂 I looked through the crowds there...I was 12 and my parents and three sisters lived in san diego but drove every summer to spend 2 weeks with my grandparents in Tacoma. 1962 we got to go to Seattle for the fair...like the rambler wagon...my dad always had a Studebaker wagon 😂..Ty so much for this film..❤

    Ahhhh...the memories!! Catching the monorail downtown long before there was a Westlake Center. Riding the Wild Mouse...loved it!! Looking out over downtown from the Space Needle. Downtown has changed so much that if it wasn't for the Smith Tower, you wouldn't know it was the same place. Anyone remember a restaurant located downtown near the old monorail entrance called the "Green Onion" (aka the "Grunion)?" A friend and I used to eat there all the time. Thanks for the memories!

    • @ccnomad
      @ccnomad 2 года назад +2

      Yes! I had a liverwurst and cream cheese sandwich at the Green Onion one time, why that memory sticks I'm not sure. I'd see it, part of the fabric of downtown :)

    Love this! My dad (passed away in 2013) worked at this fair. I love seeing it and imagining what it was like to be there. Though several buildings remain very similar at the fairgrounds location (the Space Needle, Science Center, Key Arena), it's hard to picture how it was then with all the grand excitement. Glad someone was smart enuff to do this looking back to when Seattle was a care free and wonderful place to be compared to the toilet it is today...I grew up in this town in the 50s and seen it turn to $hit 😣.what a terrible disatser its turned out to be, absolutley discusting and proves how far the world and civilization has declned

    • @bonniebluebell5940
      @bonniebluebell5940 8 месяцев назад +1

      Absolutely...Just about the same for Vancouver and all of our cities in Canada. I was a kid in those days and remember how care-free and simple it was compared to now. We had a common culture with morals and manners. Families were strong and disciplined. Life was full of hope and promise. We are living a dystopian nightmare now. All I can see is the broken dream --the wreckage of "The Great Betrayal".

    • @tonyf.8858
      @tonyf.8858 Год назад +2

      Times were PERCIEVED to be simpler as we were children and didn't have to worry about major, very concerning issues like the Cuban missile crisis. That was for the adults to worry about. I'm fairly certain that parents didn't explain to their children that we were about to be blown up. Fair enough?

      @@tonyf.8858yeah my father grew up in Puget Sound and has some stories about skid row back then that would rival any bad neighborhood today. People view the past through rose colored glasses.

    • @tonyf.8858
      @tonyf.8858 4 месяца назад

      @@Chaz31358 That is so very true, Chaz. By the way, in Seattle the correct term for that bad area was skid road, not row, as that was the road they used to skid the logs down which ended up at the mill at the bottom of the hill. My dad told me that as he lived in that area as a child. I wonder if our dads knew each other???
