In the late 1950s, early 1960s, I was a fan of The Adventures of Superman TV show, starring George Reeves as Superman and Jack Larson as his sidekick, cub reporter Jimmy Olsen.
Fifty-plus years later and I'm still a fan of the show and of Jack Larson, for coming out of the closet, years ago, and being a role model for the LGBT community. Taking another trip down Gay History Lane, I just visited his grave site in Rose Hills Memorial Park, in Whittier, California.
RIP Jack Larson and Jimmy Olsen!

Jack Larson was always so upbeat and spontaneous when he was interviewed by Larry King et al. Just a great guest to have on a talk show, and never shy about his orientation, never in-your-face about it either. He was at home with himself. What a great way to be. R.I.P.
i agree. thanks for sharing, VC!
Thanks so much for creating this video. I actually met Jack Larson! What a great guy with awesome stories to tell!
I'm envious. Thanks for sharing this, Alexander!
Jack Larson starred in the TV show superman in the 1950s
I had the pleasure of meeting Jack Larson on a couple of occasions and he was a wonderful person.
I would have loved to have met him. Thanks, as always, Capn, for sharing this.
Remember as a child watching Superman!!! Ty for this!!
thanks, pauline!
The Adventures of Superman was one of my favorites. I watched every episode. Jack Larson was great as Jimmy Olson. Thanks for the info that went with viewing his resting place.
I met Jack Carson at a Jack-in-the Box in Montebello back in the late 80's. He was seated eating his burger and at the time he weas teaching some sort of class at Cal State Univ. Very nice pleasant man, friendly and well spoken.
Wow, how neat! Now that’s certainly a memory you wouldn’t forget. Thanks for sharing it with us Tony 😊👍
Thanks for this.. Superman was my favorite TV show growing up in the 50s. I recently bought the entire series on DVD and it's interesting watching it after not seeing it for all those years.
Oh, wow, that's cool. Thanks for sharing and happy viewing!
You have a fascinating channel ! It deserves a lot more views.
Yeah, I guess there's just not a very big audience for an old guy who visits cemeteries and grave sites :-) Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much he was very nice to everybody in life.
The character of Jimmy Olson was always so understated. Which was really kind of sad. Watching him through reruns, he was a good actor.
I didn't know that he passed away. Almost all of the actors and gone now. Good video my friend
I think they all are now. Jimmy was the last.
Noel Neill died at the age of 99 a few yrs ago.
Im not sure about Phyllis Coats.
Somebody should've put the word "jeepers" on his headstone. He's the only one I ever heard say that word.
I watched it during its run. I was in preschool and elementary school. It was one of my favorite shows. I was haunted and devastated when Superman committed suicide.
I can still hear say like it was yesterday, “Mr. Kent”, or “Miss Lane”, and “Thanks Chief!” This fine gentlemen was a big influence on a lot of us back in the early sixties! Thank you so much for taking the time to film this video, great job finding his marker!
Thanks, Brian!
Have you ever considered doing a vlog on the graves of all the cast on the Adventures of Superman tv series from the 50's?
I used to watch Superman it was reruns at the time I wasn't born when It came out I saw the movie Superman with chris Reeves it was good
Jack was never really "in the closet". Just kept it private out of respect for his Mother who lived to almost 100.
Jimmy and Lois were great together
An oldie but a goodie! Binging on you again!
😊👍
RIP Jack Larson you brought your fans so much joy
Last thing i saw him was superman returns cameo
Tommy Bond who played Butch on the little rascals was the first Jimmy Olson in 1948. He was born in 1926 an died at age 79 of liver cancer. Just some trivia 😎🍌
Thanks for the fun trivia, Lana 👍
What a reverent actor so valuable❤😊
What a great actor! Did not know he was gay but maybe it made him a better actor.
After Superman,Jack Larson did some directing.Tony
Thanks for the history. What is that metallic disc below his marker?
I think it's a place to put flowers. Thanks for watching!
Yes that is a vase for flowers my parents grave has the same
Was it known in Hollywood that Montgomery Clift was gay I just learned that from your blog. Great video
I'm pretty sure everyone knew. the media just kept things like that to themselves, so the studios wouldn't black ball them and cut off access to the stars. thanks, mike.
@@TheGraveyardChannel Liz Taylor knew, probably most did.
What is that thing on Larson's grave, visible at 2:34 of the video? It kind of looks like a removable lid of some sort.. When I was a kid in the 1950s, there were stories of kids who would pin a bath towel around their neck with a safety pin, and pretend the towel was a Superman cape. Some kids, it was reported, were killed or badly injured when, wearing the towel, they jumped out of an upper floor window, thinking they could fly.
it might be a place for flowers. we used to just tie our towels around our necks, but never jumped out of any windows. yikes. hope those stories are just urban legends.
I was hit by a car in 1954 i was 4 yrs old broken leg. i was in the hospital in traction for a month . A kid next to me was in traction as well for jumping out of a first floor window thinking he could fly like superman !
Just a dear, sweet man. It must have been so hard to live as a gay man in a long relationship at the time. And he lost his partner, Jim Bridges, too young to cancer. He survived, likely to his kindness and friendships. You can see his earnestness and sincerity in other clips here. A role model for gay men.
nicely said. thanks, dave!
I would like to see the final resting place of the cast of the green hornet
Gay and proud of it.
Jack did the best Jimmy Olsen. Marc McClure did well too, but Jack was better.
IF YOU EVER GO BACK THEIR BURRIED AT CYPRESS LAWN MY DAD AND BROTHER ARE
It's a very nice cemetery to visit.
MY DAD IS BURRIED THEIR MY GRANDMAS DONLD R MC ALEAR AND MY LITTLE BOTHER TOO KEVIN MC ALEAR
It's a beautiful cemetery. Thanks for sharing that!
Great actor. Being gay probably made his performances better
It is so important to let us all know who is gay-please go away
Up to a certain time famous people had to stay in the closet because if you came out, an actor’s career was over. That’s why actors Farley Granger & Raymond Burr remained silent.
it's nice to see that some progress has been made after all these years. thanks, R!
