Isiah Thomas really is a hell of a case. The analytics and the eye test are both lying in his case. Players with similar numbers don't erupt with legendary performances the way Zeke did, and players who look that good doing it usually have better numbers. Personally, I prefer guys who are consistently good to guys who are occasionally incredible, but when Zeke did get it going he was as good as it got.

4:26 Isaiah Thomas traded offensive stats for championships when Detroit transitioned from being an offense-first to a defense-first team.
The Piston’s should have one three championships, but could have won four in a row. They were about to beat the Lakers in game six, then Isaiah sprained his ankle. They were also on their way to winning the final the previous year against the Celtics when Bird stole Thomas’s inbound pass in the final seconds of the game.
The Pistons were playing against the Bird’s Celtics, Magic+Kareem’s Lakers, and MJ’s Bulls and still managed to win two championships. The 1987-88 Pistons who lost to the Lakers were better than the best of the Chicago Bulls teams.
