This is a super underrated comparison. Should get like 100k views. I appreciate you edited the video and putting the videos side by side. Also, thanks for being a fast typer. It's a pet peeve of mine when I see review videos and the person types like 35 wpm.
Thanks! I feel all your pain points which is why I structured the video this way. Whenever I watched a switch or keyboard review, I always wanted side by side comparisons with the microphones and the switches themselves. Also a pet peeve of mine when I see someone type at turtle speeds, but can't blame em if that's just how they type, but really appreciate the positive feedback!
I've been using boba u4ts for 3 years while I had ordered the zealios v2 without building with them because people were saying they are just hype. Recently I built a board with zealios v2, and they are my new favorite tactiles. Maybe they were too expensive for some but it was worth it for me in this hobby that already drains your wallet.
True! This hobby is all about personal preferences and it takes time to find out what you like. Personally I didn't like the V2's but to each their own!
Great video! I'd actually like to replicate your sound profile; I have Boba U4Ts lubed (3203, rails only) and filmed (0.15mm TX films). Got a couple questions -- what was the thickness of the PE foam that you used? Did removing the PCB foam make it thockier? Also, how did you lube your U4Ts? Thanks!
Yeah glad you like the sound! So to give a little more insight Switches: I have a desk light and I'll try and just apply until I can see an even coat of lube on the stems. I lube everything besides the legs on the stem and the pole (which to my knowledge is pretty standard). For the housing itself, I'll do maybe 2-3 passes of lube on the rails with the brush just to make sure its there, I'd much prefer my switches to be overlubed than sound scratchy. Springs I bag lubed with super lube oil for good measure. I used deskkeys switch films for mine, but for no particular reason. I think they were just the ones I had on hand and I just wanted to use them to get rid of the crunchiness from the housing (Not sure if you have this issue too but the top and bottom housing of my bobas would make this plastic crunching sound) The PE foam is around 1mm and I tried to look for stuff that not really porous (I personally think less porous pe foam accentuates the poppyness sound). The PCB foam I removed for 2 reasons. The first reason is that I had some PE foams that would be too thick for it so the top num keys wouldn't work properly. The second reason is that the foam is in my opinion not very good material in terms of sounds and acoustics, basically close to like a felt cardboard equivalent. Just thought the board sounded better without it. Made the tradeoff of a hollower board vs a pretty muted board. I actually just got some of the KBDfans module foam and swapped the keycaps to KAT profile. In my opinion it sounds pretty much where I want it to be if you want another video!
@@hardwareabstraction Damn, thanks for the detailed response! I had a similar issue regarding films but only for a few switches; I filmed for sound and better consistency as well. Interesting point on the PE foam, I cut a bit of neoprene for the case so I'm hoping that'll achieve a similar effect to denser/less porous PE foam. Also, I'd love to see what the KBDfans module foam sounds like. Thanks!
They all sound great. How did you deal with the ping from the Glorious Pandas? Did you put a hefty amount of lube behind the leafs? I'm waiting for my Q6 and pandas and wanna do the research now :)
The sound definitely has changed and the flex increased. Different switch materials make different sounds with the plate, so I guess your mileage may vary.
After your qk65 vid have u thought about trying the fr4 plate on the q2? In planning on getting a q1 knob and doing the usual mods to make it sound nice. Was thinking fr4 will help give it nice thocky sound
I have, but I really enjoy the flexyness of my PC palte right now. It's by far the flexiest board I own, so I might just keep my PC plate just to have more variety in the different keyboards I have. But I would hope/think that the FR4 would sound good

Yeah, I put the middle gaskets on both of the sides in the middle. So I actually ended up removing the double gaskets, I just thought it was hard to keep the gaskets aligned on the case.
Stacking the foam does make it a little harder in terms of alignment but foam is compressible so it’s not much of an issue. The sound profile in my opinion gets rid of a good portion of the case noise, which I find to be a bit too metallic and hollow for my taste. Instead it kind of isolates the noise to be from the PCB, plate etc. which I like cause the PE foam mod does wonders.
@@chloel2686 I only double gasketed on the bottom side! I didn't really see the need to gasket the top side since most of the contact and bounce should be coming from the bottom side
It’s up to personal preference, but they don’t sound bad with the glorious pandas. In terms of the GMMK Pro, I think the Q2 is a better board overall if you enjoy modding. Theres room for modding and customnizing the sound to your own liking rather than a board that has almost no room for modding. The Q2 actually uses and takes advantage of it’s gaskets unlike the GMMK pro. For case foam I just used 2 sheets of pe foam since I didn’t want to bother buying killmat or polyfill
I found out that if u put a pe foam in between the plate and pcb, it becomes too thick and some switches do not get recognized. How did you compensate this? Cause i had to gave up the pe foam mod :(
Hahah, noooooo.... I literally learned this two nights ago.... it's awful because it sounds sooo damn good now, it's just that four-five keys don't register now..... did you get anywhere with this.... the foam I used was pretty damn thin - was protecting the face of the last LG monitor I bought.... I'm not sure if removing the thick stock pcb foam will help but right now my keyboard is not of much use other than making wondrous sounds
How long do you have ur Glorious pandas? I ordered them since they release and the leaf pinging is really bothering me, but it sounds like it's not ur case
I've had them for less a year (maybe 6 months?) but yeah the leaf ping is terrible. The only reason you don't hear the leaf ping anymore is because I committed a sin and lubed the legs, so I basically turned them into browns cause they're barely tactile now. I primarily use my Boba's now, and when I filmed the video realized how much tactility I lost LOL.
@@WarioelCz I've considered it, but just figured its worth more trouble than it is. Maybe if I get more boba's in the future that I'm willing to sacrifice then sure.
I typically just relube my switches regardless whether or not they come factory lubed or bone dry. It’s because I like having control over how thick or light I can go with the lube. As for filming, it’s optional. The boba u4t’s are tight from the factory, but I noticed some crunching between the top and bottom housing so the film is there to prevent the housings from crunching up against eachother!
I personally don't think so, and I think thats the case for anyone who lubes it without lubing the legs. In terms of sound, it made it sound less scratchy (not sure how to describe it but more refined?). I would definitely recommend people to lube their switches if they have the time and tool sto.
@@Baffledbeans So theres a weird interference between the top and bottom housing that I found, so I filmed them. Other than that, they don't need films, I just filmed it solely for that crunchy sound. Lubing takes away unwanted sounds (hollowness, scratchiness, pingyness), so I guess in a way it does make it more thocky?
This sounds amazing! I immediately tried to recreate your build myself and had used 2 sheets of PE foams for the PE foam mod - till I realised you meant 2 sheets for the case hahaha 🤦🏻♂️ But to ask though, did you remove all the stock stuff from the case, including their thin foam and that plastic film thingy?
