Amtrak Private Passenger Car Move, Freight Train Immediately Following On Norfolk Southern Main Line

- Amtrak hauling privately owned passenger cars on the ex Pennsylvania Railroad main line between Pittsburgh and Altoona, Pennsylvania. This busy 3 track mainline railroad is a Norfolk Southern line that hosts numerous double stack intermodals, TOFCs, coal trains, mixed freights, trash trains and just about every kind of freight train that you can think of. Amtrak runs eastbound through the Altoona area in the morning and returns westbound in the evening. It is common to see extra power units pushing the heavy freight trains over the hill west of Altoona. This was filmed not far west of Altoona near the town of Lilly, Pennsylvania at Carneys' Crossing. Filmed June 27, 2020. I will be posting more videos of this area in the next few weeks. Thanks Andy! You are in a couple of my videos coming up. I'm putting the Horseshoe Curve video up on Tuesday. Live Action! Whew!!
i have already HE IS THE MAN!!!
Those are Norfolk southern passenger cars. Probably a group of executives
Jaw tooth - I was out there that morning too - I'm down in lairmer, PA (Irwin, PA Turnpike Exit) the road I was on that train passed 3Feet away from me.
Maybe I am getting sentimental in my older age I miss the days of the true freight train, box cars, tankers, covered hoppers, gondolas, refrigerated cars (the old style), maybe a stock car or three, a long lash up of F units A and B and of course the CABOOSE!! Thanks for the videos my friend!
Yeah I agree. Never got to see long lash ups of A-B units I remember GP 35's and definitely remember wide vision cabooses or cabeese on the IC, BN, UP on the CNW and the bay windows on the CNW and those side door offset coupala cabooses/ cabeese on the IC. Have a great day everyone.
Wow, long train. The heavy set gentleman with the red bag over his camera seemed annoyed that you got him in your viewfinder. I guess he didn't know who was filming him...The Great Jaw Tooth. He should have been honored. LOL.
I love private railcars. I've been fortunate enough to ride in a few of them.
The double stack sounded like it he was notched up pretty far
the people looked comfortable in that private car lol
First Jaw tooth. Thanks for sharing! Love 4004
Awesome Andrew! Thanks for being the first commenter!
Hi Mr.Jawtooth, That Amtrak was a nice one, i think the 2nd engine was the NS Flame thrower 2004 i really couldn't see it well enough, the last train that had the 2 DPU'S Was a long train, well they both were long trains which you have to love. Take care buddy, stay safe and healthy.
Great video, Jaw Tooth! Pretty amazing catch of the Amtrak with the private cars. How cool is that!
Yes it was!
What great catches!
For those few of you as old as me;
I had dinner with Pearl Bailey and her husband Louie Bellson on the Desert Wind/California Zephyr from Chicago to Las Vegas.
They had a private car on the back. She was afraid to fly.
Awesome and you got to ride in it!
Jaw Tooth Not in their private car. It only had a warming kitchen, so they ate in the regular dining car with me. I was alone at a 4 top, so they joined me.
@@RailfanNetwork That's neat, getting to dine with Pearly Mae. How long ago was this, and did you get her autograph?
Kevin Miller Thank you! I do have both autographs!
Thanks for showing derailer
Awesome video!!!
This move looks so awesome! Thanks JT ❤️
Thanks!
Greetings from Toronto my friend
Heh ... I saw a guy sipping a martini in one of the private cars. What a way to travel.
nice video & nice catch of the privet cars & 4004
I need those seats at the end of the private car! It is cool how close those first two trains were - keep the monitoring people on their toes!
I may have seen that open-ended observation come thru Fayetteville, NC within the last couple years.
Cheers.
Greetings Chris!
But wait there's more lol
But I will tell you what I tell you later
i love seeing people come out to see the trains. Especially when you see a father with his son. In this ever changing world some things never change LOVE OF TRAINS!
You got some awesome catches there JT. I’ve been to that spot quite often with my friends, who go to Penn State. Thank you for the video.
Hello Martin! “Start the Video, Son”. “But Wait, we have More”. 👍
another beauty from JT .. PRIVATE CARS COOL!!!!!!
Wait ... you can get your own car and get Amtrak to haul you around? Where do you park it?
Huh, wonder if they are working on a new 611 excursion. Because those passenger cars are always used when 611 is able to run on the mainline
But wait there's more
But wait there's more
Great video as always! Thanks for sharing Jawtooth!
But wait there's more
Excellent catches and awesome video ! It was great to see the private cars on the end of the Amtrak train then to catch the black horse’s mane ( another specialty unit) right after ! I think here in the east we have some very long trains, the intermodal trains are probably the longest. The railroads make more money putting two trains together with one set of crew. I enjoyed watching this video, thanks for sharing. Be careful and stay safe :-))
Old Pennsy cars...the private one at the end of the Pittsburgh AMTRAK train
Love watching👍😊👍
nice how you say mine name,lol.its:Peer. but Dutch en Engels are complete diverend languages.lol.laern Dutch.i am laerning now Danich.

Jaw Tooth, did you get any video of the derailment site itself? Also, regarding private passenger car moves, you featured one on a siding in some private industrial area, did that car ever get moved as planned or did COVID-19 delay things? Awesome videos of private cars on Amtrak, keep 'em coming! :D
Awesome catches!
Two private cars and NS 4004!
Yeah those people have a contract with Amtrak still and since it's not on a huge long distance, it's easier to move them, also, NS must've been waiting for Amtrak to clear the line so they could go, they just are following a signal block behind them, thus why they're moving so slow
Hi Jaw Tooth. I have a few questions. 1. Is Amtrak the only company that runs passenger services in the USA (not including preserved railways), 2. do you know how old those red coaches were at the back if the Amtrak train? The last one looked to be particularly vintage, with the platform at the very end of the train. 3. I presume that passengers are not able to stand on that platform when the train is moving at speed.
OMG LMFWOAO LOLOLOL Millennium Force He is like a Fixture like an Old piece of Chewing Gum on the RAILS.
Must be people with balls who can afford to own private railwaggons????
My word Norfolk Southern dont hang about considering the rake its hauling never ceases to amaze me the freight traffic on American railways
Container trains are relatively light compares to a regular freight train, and even more so for a unit train like coal or grain. That’s why they can be longer than regular freight trains, unless the railroad has a length restriction on their trains. Loaded containers are between 20 to 25 tons. So two containers on a car would only be 40 to 50 tons. A regular 4 axle freight car can be loaded with up to 110 tons of freight, with a gross weight of 283, 000 lbs. Most unit trains are all loaded to the max gross weight.
LOTS of lag on your video. Don't know if it is RUclips or you need a faster card for your camera.
The Amtrak train and Northfolk Southern DPU on The End pusher Engine that's cool Jaw tooth.
Would have been real nice if it were possible to catch parallel action between amtrak and the freight.
Also, I believe this is the NS mainline in Pennsylvania, so no short trains here :).
Hauling butt on the track in Pennsylvania awesome video jaw tooth bless you friend stay safe like always
Siempre es apasionante ver el ferrocarril excelente video gracias
Great video...

Salt Lake City Utah
I think i just seen millennium force
NS it was a double stack freight train
Nice video. A fast passenger train with a heavy freight running fast one block behind is a reminder of the great days.
👌 Great live action. Thos private classic cars amazing 👍
That bonnet schemes number was 4014 now ns has a unique 4014
WHAT IS ANDERSON ON???
need a couch on a trailer... to sit on and photograph the trains.. be sure to have cans of real creme spray topping.. so you can overflow some on your mouth.. to give the train crews something to talk about..
Great, Amtrak with a vinteage observation car. The container train is epic.
So who "privately" owned those cars?
There sure seems to be a lot of tonnage on the railroads despite the sputtering economy.
Rails move a lot of America's goods in general. That many trucks on the road would be a traffic nightmare. And if just one of the got into an accident, a six lane highway would probably need to be almost enrirely shut down, causing massive delays.
You may think life sucks now, but food riots and/or morons without their popeyes rioting is even worse.
Nice videoooooooOOOO, Greetings from Spain!!
Congratulations on 100 k subscribers
Szép videó!😀 Nyomtam egy like!👍
that's we're NS is moving to Altoona PA ?
The train at 6:13 has a real nice horn.
The 3 private railcars on the back were Salisbury Beach, Colonial Crafts, and Lambert's Point. I'm good friends with the owners of those cars and it's nice to see them finally back out after awhile of sitting in Philadelphia.
Wow, that is awesome! Thanks for the info
Where i can find a jaw Tooth cap? lol.
I have a question jawtooth, is it always good to know when a train comes
your channel is much better than the FL guys channel
Great video witch direction were those private cars heading?
Another you tube catch ! Amtrack moving cars-a very rare sight these days-and on a fast stretch of line there son ! The de railer was a very interesting find -plus you got me the weatherd sleepers I wanted to see 👍Nice video Jawtooth
Regards
Thank you very much!
Awesome vid, love the private cars on the end !!
Great video jawtooth 3 trains in 1 video awesome
I never road a passenger train I bet it wood be fun 👽👽
Two trains, so close on the same track ? ODD !
separate tracks that's a 3 track main
I used to live literally right along the North East Corridor in Bristol, Pennsylvania and would see Private Passenger Cars every now and then. They freaked me out for some reason, but don't ask me why.
Wow, that would be cool to live by the Corridor! We don't even have many passenger trains in Cincinnati. We get 3 round trip Amtraks a week
Great video! 👍👍📹🚅🚅
Ok next time I hope to be ready to hop abroad yay
Nice catch. I live in a Missouri town. My house is just across the street from the UP Sedalia sub. Amtrak goes by here four times a day and occasionally is pulling private cars. Also NS and CSX have trackage rights through here also so see several f their trains. Also on occasion see KCS power and once in awhile Ferromex power. Very rarely see any BNSF units. Once in awhile a wind turban/
train, both loaded and empty.
Excellent Video Jaw Tooth
,🌻🌻🇮🇳🌻🌻
Im surprised they run.that freight that close behind ???....if amtrak made an emergency stop, they.would be rear ended...
They usually don't let a freight get that close to Amtrak on that stretch. The Amtrak is a local, meaning it makes stops at a lot of the towns it passes through.
Great job Jaw Tooth! I was planning to go catch that same train too! Keep up the great work.
Cool, thanks!
Hey JT,great video. No drone shot of the trains? The intermodal seemed to be long for not having a DPU I guess not as heavy as regular freight cars, about 40 tons of cargo in each . Thanks for posting.
I only have one video with drone shots. I need to get a drone some day
i thought Amtrak wasn't
doing private cars anymore?
I think they might still allow it on an existing train under certain circumstances but not allow a train just for the purpose of moving private cars. They have a new CEO also so maybe things will loosen up a little, we will have to see. Someone on here probably knows
Great job. Love those horns.
Is it me or the amtrak sounds like one of those Ns horns
That sounds like a csx
Very good spot ,thank you of France Jaw .
Lol Louie and crew good one JT
How long was the freight train?
if you and Alan decided to railfan together or was that just a coincidence where he was at?
We planned it out. We do this every June. He stopped at the JawTooth Compound on his way up north
Great video but no dogs
Wow, great catches Brian! 100K! You are almost there brother! I was talking to a female RUclipsr friend of mine from The Netherlands congratulating on her achievement of the Silver Play Button award. She said it was quite heavy, so I asked what it is made of. Turns out that it is made of several metals including titanium and silver. We will all be watching for when the day comes. It won't be long now! Stay safe! Cheers, Danny
Good video Brian.
What are those private cars? Does the general public get to ride on them? Greetings!
@Carl Ferrigno Oh, so that's the way it works, I guess. Thank you very much!
Does Norfolk Southern own this track?
Yes, it is the NS Pittsburgh Line
Used to be able to ride private cars once a year, until the new AHOLE CEO KILLED THE PRIVATE CAR BUSINESS. Viet Nam vet 68-69
Good thing is that he was recently replaced so now we have to see if the new guy in charge will bring Amtrak back the way it was.
@@JawTooth I sure hope it changes.
Nice cap! From The Netherlands.

Nice video, JT. I like the location. Any interest in shooting at the Curve? Ever see the movie “Unstoppable”? All of the locations are in PA and OH. Might be a fun project to seek out some of those locations and shoot some video. You and Millennium Force!
Yes, I have seen Unstoppable. I was at the curve a week ago with Millenniumforce and I will post that video on Tuesday
Jaw Tooth can’t wait! “Start the video, son!”
