    Here's some wisdom, only start tractors from the seat. When he put his hand on the key, I thought to myself, "This is how people get killed."

      Yes you are correct! I thought about editing that out of the video, but changed my mind. It can show how easy it can happen. Be honest, a lot of us have done it and known better. Farm tractor safety is no joke! Be safe out there!

      I have a 641 work master you can not start that tractor in gear it has the factory safety switch so I don’t worry about it to much.

    Cool Tractor,In the Coast Guard we had many patrol and small tugs with 2-71's to power generators.Had fun working on them.

      The tag on the bellhousing has information about it being a generator set, so it very well could be military surplus. Thanks for watching!

    Pretty sure that W.C Horton built that tractor. I used to work for him and he told me a story about building an 8N with a Detroit engine off of an old welding machine. Welder was bad but engine was good. Tractor had bad engine. So put the two together.

      Dakota said he got it south of Atlanta GA. If I recall. That would make sense.

    What an improvement on the 8N so this Ferguson clone now develops 48 horse power at 1800 rpm what a beast

    • @Recommended_by_Fred
      @Recommended_by_Fred  3 месяца назад +1

      I think a 253 would have fit better but the 271 is what they had. It appears to work very good! Wonder what would happen if we got a plow on this thing? Future video idea?

    • @blacksmokejoe5827
      @blacksmokejoe5827 3 месяца назад +2

      2-71's were adaptive motors due to removable bell housing 53s do not have that. Very few were used cause of that. That looks like a Funk hood and steering from inline6-v8 kit with steering or a copy of it. Very intresting. FYI make sure you have a hi flow oilbath on the Detroit it will scavenge the oil and run wild!!! make sure your trap door works and the window gally port drain is open..

    Yeah I think He ru would be proud. He wouldn’t be proud that someone thinks a diesel better than his 32HP gas engine but he would be proud that someone made it work for their situation and fuel accessibility.

    • @justinstearns9723
      @justinstearns9723 3 месяца назад +1

      8N didn’t have 32hp stock. And as far as tractors go, that Detroit is light years ahead of the stock Ford engine in quality and durability.

    • @Recommended_by_Fred
      @Recommended_by_Fred  3 месяца назад

      @@justinstearns9723 i think it would be fair to say it probably would cost as much to produce the Detroit engine as the entire tractor. Also, most operators would be pretty hard to grasp at the complexity of the Detroit over the model A ford type engine. Simple and cheap was the watchword for the 8n, less horsepower would mean they wouldn’t break as easily. I see your point!

      We found a 435 John Deere at the show and it was amazing how much smaller the 253 was compared to the 271. The 271 was much quieter though!

  • @308dad8

    Them old Ford tractors the engine is the front frame. Front end bolts directly to the engine. The engine doesn’t bolt to the frame because it’s designed to be the frame. The gear box for your transmission and the sump for the PTO and the rear differential are also the frame. Minimal design.

    The original engines to these totally sucked ass. If you used them like a tractor, you needed to rebuild them every year. Every part of them were totally junk. Flat head dry sleeve has never worked. This is the happiest this tractor will ever be. In fact, it's only GOOD one ive ever seen
