wow that was a great explanation for on2 from on 1. Ive been struggling to transition for all the reasons mentioned in the video and this was so easy to comprehend and it makes more sense. thanks!
Lots of people can dance. Lots of people can teach. Most people cannot do both. You did an EXCELLENT job breaking down the movements-thank you! I was getting frustrated because every time I went to salsa class I felt like I got the moves. When I got home and tried to do them on my own, it’s like I forgot everything I learned just 30 minutes before. I realized that my instructor doesn’t actually teach. She simply dances and we mimic her. Thank you for breaking it down. You have a new subscriber
@@DanceWithRasa musicality is so important. As a musician, it's hard to understand how some people dance without hearing what the music is expressing :) I'm going to follow you on Instagram.
Hi Rasa, thank you for this video. You rightly talked about the importance of preparation when dancing on 2. Is the preparation only for the woman who steps forward? Does the leader make a preparation as well (for example a tiny step on 1) or he just starts moving the left foot directly on 2, being completely still on 1?
Rasa your On2 Suzie Q is a little different to what I've learned previously. At the school I attend in Trinidad and Tobago (El Mundo de Danza), we step across to the left on 1, with the first Suzie Q going to the left , and the second to the right... whereas you are stepping on 1 with the first SQ going to the right and the second to the left... VERY INTERESTING INDEED!!!
very possible, you probably do the susiq based on on1 susiq, makes sense :) the one in the video is the slow traveling one, thats the difference , your susi q is absolutely fine just a different kind :)
There are many Spanish speaking countries and people dance many different style. I would not think on2 is the majority, but there is enough for a vibrant screen to exist 😇. I absolutely love New York, and dancing in New York, can not wait till I can come visit again 🥰
Professor Rasa good evening, all your dance classes are wonderful because they provide us with feedback or new knowledge in movements and steps to enjoy the rhythm of the music. I would like to clarify these doubts: 1. Can a musical theme be danced in one or in two ?; 2. Does the man start dancing with his left foot ?; 3. When you dance in two, does it also start with the strong beat of the music or the drum? I constantly watch your You Tube videos and that is how I have managed to learn to dance better and better because they take the technique and professionalism that you possess for their understanding; That is why I am highly grateful to you, you are a very nice and kind person, I wish you good health and many successes for you and your beautiful family and I also send you a big hug.
1. You can dance any salsa song to any style 1 or 2 or cuban. 2. On2 salsa footwork men start as shown but in the partnerwork men start back on the left followed by the right. 3. With music you still looking for a strong accent on 1 🥰
@@DanceWithRasa I appreciate your answer, you have become my favorite teacher for your beautiful way of being and correctly explaining everything related to dance; Thank you very much teacher Rasa, have a nice day, a hug.
Hi Rasa thank you so much for the great explanation! I am dancing salsa for about a year on 1 and started now with styling classes on 2. Now it happens to me that I am often too fast on the on 4 and 8 pause in partner dancing. Is that normal and I just need to practice the transitioning between both styles more or did I move to fast?
It happens, sometimes we just don't hear on 2 as easy in the beginning as on 1 so sometimes we might be a bit faster or slower, but if you keep practising your ear will adjust , you'll get a feel for it 😉.
Hi Rasa! I have seen you teach in london and i have danced with you before but never knew you made tutorial videos! This is great! Just a few quick question, as i have dances exclusively on1 for over 10 years and never gave on2 a chance.. it always confused me when i tried to do the basic steps and i always gave up... but i want to learn it and watching this video you explain things very well! Is this all for the leaders timing? And also is the preparation for practically everything still on the same timing as on1? So basically the 1,2 and 3 is like the preparation time? (Hopefully this made sense!)
I'll make more videos for on 2. The preps are the same, but of course, they end up being on different numbers. This video is for followers and leaders for shines, also for followers in partner work. On2 followers start forwards basic not backwards like on 1.
@@DanceWithRasa so I guess then the start of the preparations are on the 5 count? I feel so stupid not being able to grasp the understanding of it 😂 I will be waiting for more videos! ☺️
I have a question, I am a beginner who started learning on2 and I went to a bar where most people dance on on1. What I noticed was the timing of right turn was different, that I seemed quicker than the leader expects since on2 turn at count after 2, while on1 turns at count 5. Am I right? Or it doesnt really matter when you actually dance with a partner 🤔 I am confused which style I should practice or should I learn both? And do you ask the parnter what style on1/on2 before you dance?
If you are a beginner it's better to stick with one style, at least for a little while otherwise it can get confusing. But yes on 1 turns seem a bit sharper, leaders turn on 1 followers on 5. Some people ask which style they are dancing, but if you are leading , followers could adapt even if they are not aware of on 2 😊. Don't get put off, just practice the style you started with and then a bit later you can easily transform into on 1 🥰
Absolutely the best explanation of On 2 on you tube! Thank you!!
So glad it's helpful 😌
Yes, super helpfull!! Never realised to take this preparation step. Thanks so much Rasa! Keep up the good videos 🎉

Off of timing on some steps. Remember you have to tell the students that they can dance on1 the same flavor as on2.
There's so many different approaches to on 2. I'll bring some guest teachers to actually talk about it ❤
