    Scheib glad you liked the Fiskars X27. After working 10 years and retiring from Fiskars I don’t know to many people that don’t like their ax’s. The best part is if you happen to overstrike the handle and break it the ax is guaranteed for life. See ya at the Firewood Frenzy

    Thank you for your service!
    The head blew right off mine on the first Miss strike when my friend tried it. I can't say I'm all that impressed with it. My most impressive splitter in the stable is an 8 lb East Wing Maul with American hickory handle. It was $35 on Amazon. My 200 plus dollars helko werk is a POS also. The bit never stays tight. Halco will not warranty this non-performing product. They informed me they are aware that it does not stay tight however they are not willing to do anything about😢. Even worse knowing it constantly comes loose they continue to advertise and sell it. Supposedly the fiskars has a lifetime warranty. I sent them a picture of the head and the handle separated. So far I've just been left hung out to dry. East Wing 8 lb hickory handle maul for the WIN in my book✌️🇺🇸 thanks for taking the time to make this video and share it.

    I use the splitting axe in tandem with their maul to handle just about anything PA’s woods have to offer (except Elm; ef that noise).
    I’d say the axe gets about 90% of the use. I like it for straighter rounds, without many knots. It’s great for squaring larger rounds off into more manageable pieces, and far more effective than trying to quarter larger rounds with the maul.
    What I love the maul for is knotty pieces, as well as for its sledge end that can be used to drive in metal wedges.

    I've had my x27 since January and I've split about 3 cords, only had 1 or 2 I couldn't split. But in fairness there were knots running thru them. I was able to split them enough to get them in my wood stove.

  • @Redneck_Ed
    @Redneck_Ed 2 года назад +8

    Check out the Fiskars IsoCore maul. The X27 is fantastic for longer periods of splitting due to the miller lite weight of the axe head. The Fiskars maul will do a better job going through the tougher stuff. I've used them side by side and the Fiskars maul does a better job blowing through rounds.

  • @ericwanderweg8525
    @ericwanderweg8525 Год назад +2

    You wouldn’t think it would be but cherry can be a bear to split. They almost never grow straight and have the weird quality of being a softer hardwood that your maul sinks right into. It’s not like a round of oak that once you get a crack, it just pops apart.

  • @LordBingham1
    @LordBingham1 Год назад +2

    Hello Sir - I've had the X27 for many and I'm really impressed by it.
    Things may have changed since I bought mine but on the accompanying label it states not to move the axe from side to side when the axe is in the wood.
    All the best 👍

    Hey Brother, nice review 👍🏼
    Think’n Mr. VanDeusen could make a great Wedge Bang’r out of the Ol Mil-Spec chopper.
    If it was part of a Pioneer Kit, it would have been a cutting profile, which is handier in the woods. Make a Short Handled Carbine out of it😜.
    24-28” handle makes them easy to pack and carry, yet big enough to make a good swat at a wedge.
    Bless’ns to ya, Tedd

    The reason your not getting one strike splits is because you’re splitting directly on the ground and the ground is absorbing the blow!! Try setting one round on top of another and see the difference, get a big round of say 30” by 12” thick and keep it as a chopping block. 👍😜

    The Fiskars are about nearly indestructible. I've hit with them like I have with the wooden handle axes and they show only a small scuff mark, whereas the wooden handle axes would have been shattered.

  • @apple_with_a_human_butt
    @apple_with_a_human_butt Год назад +1

    I broke the handle on my x27 when splitting icy logs in -8 degree weather. I'd had the axe for 15-ish years at that point and used it regularly, because I like chopping wood (great for letting out some steam).
    Fiskars replaced it for free. all they wanted was a photo of the broken handle. I even got to keep the old axe.
    I think I might try to make a new handle for that, just for shits and giggles :D

    Nice job Scheib! This is my go to axe. I have the maul, but rarely use it. They eat cherry, maple, and black walnut like crazy. I found if you knock the edges of the round off, it busts up the inside like nothing. The other thing I’ve found is to keep the cutting edge sharp.

    Much easier to flake it instead of center hit. Use the rings and hit maximum 1/4 way to center. Work around the center, not through it. I split 30” ish that way, no problem. And I split oak, not soft wood. I use biggest Fiskars axe. Also works better to put the rounds on another round so there is no spongy ground under. Enjoy the beer and watch the toes.
