Purchased it a few weeks ago. Very happy you made it. One thing: In this video you speak about "worm gear" while you are actually talking about a worm. A worm gear is a sprocket with angled teeth, that is being driven by the worm. The angle of the teeth of the worm gear have the same angle as the blades of the worm.
Saw the $8 minimum, said naw, saw the suggested $15 monimum, said naw. So I upped it to $25 USD and said, "Oh heck ya" Huge thanks for making this! I could have spent hundreds on other software systems to have similar or worse ease of use for developing gears, but you sir are a champ. I spent less and get access to parametric gears for way less hassle.
Also, you'll want to include other teeth profiles. GT2 and MXL are very often used for timing belts on 3D printers, so you'll definitely want those included at a minimum.
Acme and ball screw threads... also, i modeled a ballscrew in blender, and i'm trying to make it actually function in a rigid body dynamics physics model. Needless to say, it's a very fun and involved puzzle i've created for myself :D
Defenetely a must have I am an absolute beginner and just found your channel. I want to design the mechanics for a lift system with levers and gears and a bit lost in the how to Your tutorials and blender might just be the holy grail for me to achieve my goal Thank you
Great add-on and some really exciting developments in the pipeline. As for presets, as a lover of Lego Technic, how about a library of the full range of their gears?
Absolutely brilliant, just gave this a test run and it might finally allow me to move all my 3D CAD design to Blender. I've been trying to move to a fully open source design toolchain and 3D CAD is the last thing holding me back. What's even better is your plugin has even more features than the gear plugins I was using in my other CAD soft.
Also M series of threads for the bore could be a good idea, that way home makers could screw and glue the gears onto threaded bar. The set screw could have threads pre defined too for resin printing.
the idea is Makers sometimes want to use bottles for things like potato guns, or in my case a dust tank for a cyclone adapter for a handheld hoover. these threads are industry standard threads.
I'd say make the parts to catalog specs, and we'll take care of making them suitable to 3d printing as needed. Printability really depends on orientation and purpose. Does your add on play well with hard ops? It'll be a huge selling point for you if it does, since I can see a lot of people using your add on in addition to hard surface modeling techniques.
Pure genius! Very complicated programming involved, I am sure! Keep up the good work! As for what to use catalog or 3d printing, I would suggest both. Isn't there a way to create an algorithm to adjust a gear for 3d printing or maybe a separate program? Just a thought.
can I use the gears with geometry nodes? I like to build up a gear train and automatically positioning the next gear depending on radius and teeth count
what does one need to develop something like this further? I was messing with several versions of this and i'm starting to understand how it all works, but there's a lot more that can be done from both an engineering and a mathematical standpoint, and the code should be relatively easy... Is a problem of time, or are you outsourcing the actual coding work?
Catalog specs would be way more important in my opinion. Models can easily be prepped for 3D printing. HardOps and Boxcutter compatible? If it is I'll buy it asap.
Hi Brad, thanks for your input. In terms of compatibility with box cutter and Hardops as long as the operation is modifier based and not parametric mesh editing work perfectly in my experience fine. Just be aware that every time a parametric setting is edited of the gear the mesh is "recalculated" cus mesh edits are not "permanent" but modifiers are. I would much appreciate if you do ahead with this letting me know here or in the discord how it plays with them and your expectations.
@@Keep-Making I want to know the optimal distance between the two gears. Placing them there is not the issue. I had one old gear addon several years ago (can't find it now). Im not sure if im doing something wrong or if there's a bug in the Beta. But the dimensions in your algorithm dont add up. If i put 10mm in the module height and then add a set screw at 4mm, it doesnt look right and takes up over 80% of the side wall. Plus, what is the Module? is it the circumference, the radius or what? Im trying to make a specific size gear for printing, yet these values just dont add up. Any help would be appreciated

Just bought it but got into discord registration errors, .. so i ask here, how to make the teeth larger ?, the gears come with fine teeth but i need it a bit larger (stronger) (using it for 3d printed gears btw).
Hi Peter, these are involute gears. So if you are looking to make "bigger" teeth you play around with the "module". I'll soon be doing a deep gear dive but there is one last BIG update I want to do to the addon. In the time being here is a video explaining a little more about modules ruclips.net/video/8cTjG_OA0rk/видео.html
I might have to give this a try. The built in gears of blender are kinda useless. This looks like it would take a while to get used to because there are so many settings that I honestly have never heard of being that I know very little about gears. But it looks way way more useful than the built in gears.
I bought this addon about a week ago and now it wont make any changes to the gear, the gear just remains the same, restarted blender, my computer, still nothing, it is useless to me now.
Hey Verse, Sorry to hear you are having trouble with precision gears. Firstly please keep in mind that precision gears is still very much in "beta" which is clearly listed on gumroad listing. Apart from that, I would love to get to the root of the problem here as I've not encountered it myself and I'm still editing gears from designs I made months ago. If you wouldn't mind joining my discord and sharing your file in the channel called "precision gears" I would more than be happy to take a look at it and see if we can solve the problem. discord.gg/Ezx9hUD
Something strange with the design. I made 2 Spur Gears with Modul 1 and 10 Teeth. With this Parameters the axle distance should be: 1 multiplied with 10 = 10 mm. But then the teeth crash toghether.☹
Hey Otto, from my understanding are these are involute gears that equation would not equal the distance between gear centres. Here is the mathematics to calculate it out if you would like to tho: www.tec-science.com/mechanical-power-transmission/involute-gear/calculation-of-involute-gears/ With that said don't you worry... In a little while, there is a "special" pretty big update coming to the addon that will make gear meshing and animation of gears VERY easy 🤫
@@Keep-Making Thanks for the answer. During my last 60 years I calulated it otherway like here definded en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gear#Spur The distance between the two axis becomes: a = m /2 * ( z 1 + z 2 ) where a is the axis distance, z1 and z2 are the number of cogs (teeth) for each of the two wheels (gears). These numbers (or at least one of them) is often chosen among primes to create an even contact between every cog of both wheels, and thereby avoid unnecessary wear and damage.
