To their credit, they made their own show instead of just corrupting another one of ours. The problem is that the audience they're catering to is _much_ smaller than the vocal Twitter minority would have you believe, and they just don't spend money on this kind of stuff. Like, it's not that there aren't woke gamers, for example, there just aren't _enough_ woke gamers to make woke video games financially viable. Same thing here.

Tbf I am very lgbt and I watch it cause I have free time, not just because of the gay parts. The lgbt parts however make it more relatable to me and more interesting in general so it’s easier to understand the characters. Seeing straight stuff all the time just gets boring.

Ranma 1/2, for example. Another one is Yuri on Ice and I think Revolutionary Girl Utena. There's also the original version of Sailor Moon - still very good, a classic of the magical girl genre.
Annnnd..just being a shitty ripoff of Little Witch Academia…except without the great animation by Trigger, a plot the audience can follow and get us invested in, characters we can root for, and DAMN NEAR ANYTHING BETTER!!

I know sjws will still criticize and say how Zoisite was a villain, blah blah. But his relationship with Malachite was the most sympathetic parts about him. Same with Fisheye. Besides, they had the "cousins", like you said. Anime fandom for the most part couldn't care less about lgbts being in anime. It *was* a mostly liberal and open-minded community (actual racist or bigoted people I knew would scoff at needing to read subtitles!).
It's just so cheap and self-congratulatory to make HGS out to be avante-garde when it really isn't. It's just some sjws attempt to feel virtuous while self-inserting into bad fiction... using funds from a customer base that thought they were supporting something completely different.

The lamp-post thing is especially funny to me because, if I remember correctly, that trailer years ago even talked about how wonderful their background-artists team were. I'd call this whole show an utter debacle, but the word debacle means 'sudden and ignominious failure', and lets be real this was a slow motion portrait of failure in its entirety.

To be fair, that is a fairly common character motivation because, well, its a pretty common character motivation. The problem is PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING ELSE!
Do...do these people actually know ANYTHING about Anime? Obviously not or they'd be well aware of the Yoai and Yuri genres and how popular they are. To my understanding, both of them are usually fairly wholesome as well.

@@redschafer7804 Yes because, unless the story is directly about the characters struggles as part of the LGBT community, it remains where it should be. As a part of the character in the background. As far as I can think, in a Shonan battle manga, there is pretty much no reason for someone to bring up their sexual orientation or gender identity. If they did it'd be weird and utterly jaring.

Either way, MHA is an exallalent example of how you examine societal bias and discrimination properly and without ending up lecturing the audience. Examples; Black Lagoon, Dragon Ball (Not talking about Popo or Piccolo), Naruto, Durarara, Afro Samurai (i think it counts), Machiko & Hatchin, Hunter X Hunter, The Boondocks (Also think that counts), Soul Eater, and Bleach are good examples of anime with Black characters, and anyone who hates any of those shows are never called racist from what i seen.
Whats funny is, High Guardian Spice is not all that anime if not, at all.
Twitter tends to ignore representation when they find it convienient to. If it's something they approve, they'll go on and on about it. However, they ignore representation in other shows in order to support their narrative that anime is -ist and -phobic.

You already know people are going to be out here calling everyone who doesn’t like this show homophobic and every type of phobic and racist.
When in reality, I just don’t like it because the art is bad, the voice acting hella bad, the story feels boring so far, it’s NOT an anime when it tries to present itself as one, first bully type character is a cis, straight, white, blond guy ( boring and of course so typical), the backgrounds have literal stock images in them, the animation and design is very inconsistent, the anatomy of the characters sucks so bad sometimes, and everything just feels so flat and stale.
I think representation is and can be a good thing. Just not with High guardian spice. Spice is an example of what NOT TO DO when you’re trying to make a show to possibly uplift people of a certain group.
Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss at least do a good job with representation.

I feel like people are WAY to harsh on Legend of Korra. Sure the second season might be kind of poop towards the end, but the rest of the series is pretty damn solid overall.
2nd season is easily the worst. 4th season would have been way better if they could have spent time on Korra's PTSD from the 3rd season, but that felt more like a Nickelodeon issue than a creator issue.
@@dude-zr8gi There was also the issue of being threatened with cutting staff mid-way through, hence the decision to do a clip episode (and they did the best they could with it). Was kinda hoping to see the outcome of Kuvira's time in the Swamp, as that might have lent some narrative weight towards her sympathetic traits.
People are harsh on Korra because it was a disappointment. Avatar is brilliantly executed long form storytelling. In contrast Korra is a mess of dropped storylines and shifts in focus. We now know how much it was crippled by uncertain renewals, shifting production circumstances and other bullshit behind the scenes, but from outside it's just presumed masters of their craft falling on their face. At least to me the whole love triangle in the first season also was a huge turnoff. It's a dramatic shift in tone from avatar, takes way to much screen time away from everything returning fans wanted to see, and makes the main cast look like unsympathetic asses.

I love how everyone just agrees that they completely deserve all this hate that they’re getting.
I remember showing a scene to my mom, a scene that just seems so screwed up, and if you haven't seen it, there's a particular scene where the pink haired girl decided to play with her sword in the alleyways, and then nearly beheads the elf girl, which is how we're introduced to her. It's portrayed as if the elf girl was being ridiculous by telling the pink haired girl to be more careful with her sword. Later, the pink haired girl mocks her for being concerned about her head being cut off by accident by some irresponsible girl swinging around a sword. My mom's first reaction to seeing the scene, was what the heck is up with her hair!? That's some hair! Of course referring to the pink haired girl

One of the main creators of this show has multiples tweets that just boil down to “kill all men” “men are trash” the trailer they had for it showed nothing about the show and only showed how “diverse” the writing team is, when it was literally just a shit ton of colored hair, fat, man hating radical Twitter feminists. Not to mention that they basically used people subscription money which they claimed was to “support the industry” when actually they used it for a shitty convention and a shitty sorry excuse for an “anime”. you’d know why this show deserves hate if you just do some research.

The west cannot understand that people don't care if there's gay or black or whatever alien being is on the anime, as long as it is not forced and promoting woke propaganda. Like there's a freaking lot of yaoi and yuri manga and animes that have high ratings. The difference is that those yaoi and yuri are not forced and has a good storyline.

Pandering is forced just to please certain group of people that is only a small part of the audience is forced, that's why comics sales ratings are on all time low because the real fans of these comics departed from reading them due to these pandering and forced representation.

If you think a yaoi or yuri manga is "fetishizing" these kind of relationships then you can always skip watching or reading these works. Another difference is that the authors of these genres don't say stupid stuff to the audience like, "If you don't like these works then stop it you homophobic bigot yada yada."

@@farsifm4217 yeah making things inclusive just for the sake of making it look "inclusive" and disregarding every aspects of that craft which were built up over the course of history will make the ratings go down. The ratings did not even made it on the news because it is way below the expected minimal ratings.

If I can just say one more thing, I don’t necessarily think that adding representation to works is bad, even (to an extent) existing characters. I mean, it really depends more on the setting the story is trying to present. I think this is only bad when there is no development to this, like when a characters is gay and the creators will only say it like years down the line on Twitter instead of actually making it in the show.
It just confuses me that when making representation, there are multiple ways that it could backfire. Like if a character is LGBT, and they say it in the show people will say it wasn’t really important to the plot line unless they date someone but then others will say it shouldn’t be made a big deal and they should just carry on after mentioning it.
Bottom line for me is that (and this is just my opinion, you are free to have yours) representation should be included by people in their works, as people of colour and LGBT+ people exist in real life, but should write it in a way that goes smoothly with the dialogue and setting. Sort of like The Owl House, which is quite diverse without making it jarring, it’s just actually included it in the story and has a terrific plot line and loveable characters.
Also, I looked up woke propaganda and didn’t find specific definitions of the thing, but it’s alright. I think it means stuff like ‘kill all men’ or something, because it so I can agree that is a harmful mindset to support if someone uses that in a serious way.
