(Preface: I do not have Crunchy Roll and have not otherwise found the show online, so my knowledge comes from reviews) The problem is that this is way too much of a character-driven show, so there really isn't much inherent conflict in the show beyond basic magic school tropes. The creators must have realized this, and, instead of trying to actual incorporate a greater plot earlier, they made the main characters act abnormally unpleasant at certain points to cause conflict. The main characters are often annoying, but they can become incredibly nasty just to cause some drama.
Honestly both Sage and Rosemary sucked to each other. Sage getting mad at Rosemary is somewhat justified given that Rosemary was being an asshole and pretending she didn't see Sage signing them up for Pumpkin craving. They both suck since her and Sage should have talked over the options and then come to a decision so it is on Sage for not trying to initiate conversation. Still they both did this to each other.
Also, Amarillys reads the environment when Snapdragon wants to stay with his crush, but Rosemary don't And, meanwhile Rose and Sage's reconciliation takes a lot of words and time. Snap and Ama, just like: - "Are we okay?" - "Yes, we are" :)

5:24 THIS. This is actually amazing! This is what HGS SHOULD have been the entire time! A jokey but ultimately well meaning and sweet response to something that people have self doubt in. These two are genuinely amazing, but we're stuck with the others who are either boring (Thyme), Trash (Rose and Sage), or Kinda alright (Parsley).
Amarillis and Snapdragon would be much better protagonists than the original 4 girls and I will tell you why: Because they're not perfect. I watched a few reviews, and one of them was heavy critical of Amaryllis aside from her parts with Snapdragon. I thought that she was one of the less annoying character from the little that I saw of her, so I was confused. This video made me love her.
I feel like amaryllis is a friend we've all had who's rude and bitchy to people they dislike around them but you look past that cause they're your bestie
I think I've worked out why Amaryllis is the only decent character out of the main group: screen presence. She's the star of every scene she's in. Whenever she's on the screen, you pay attention to what she's doing. All the other girls (and Snapdragon) feel way more restrained. None of them really have the same scene presence as she does. Even when there's a scene that's focused on them, your attention wanders, and it becomes really easy to blank them out.

Axe girl is the only likable character. Not only is she energetic and looks like she's always having fun (making her WAY better than basically every other character by default) as she's also an earnest trans ally without making it look like deliberate pandering.
Her story as actually interesting and relatable: Do you follow your dreams, or do what you have to do for the sake of your family? It's something that has no easy answer.

Litteraly, Snapdragon and Amarylis have so much personality to them that the actuall main characters! (It's just my opinion =P ) I just felt like that the main charas has as much personality as a pebble, Ama and SD also have much more story to them! (Just my opinion once more) I feel like HGS just doesn't feel like it has a plot tbh, but when we're with those two I see alot more potential! So yeah they should have been the stars of the show, and it would have been hella fun to watch SD figuring out who he is really supposed to be, with the help of Ama ofc, I'd much rather follow him through the story than the actuall cast, but once again all of this has been my opinion, I feel like the show could make trans audiences less alone, like those w/ homophobic family's, those who are in a dark place and don't feel accepted...
That would have made SUCH a good show! But once again that's just my perspective.

These two are genuinely amazing, but we're stuck with the others who are either boring (Thyme), Trash (Rose and Sage), or Kinda alright (Parsley).

Amarillis and Snapdragon would be much better protagonists than the original 4 girls and I will tell you why:
Because they're not perfect.
The 4 main girls have no faults, or their faults are so superficial that they could be fixed simply by talking.
On the other hand, Amarillis comes from a rich, recognized and respected family, the pressure she must feel to be perfect just by being part of that family must be immense...
And Snapdragon is a different boy from an traditional family that not only does not understand him, but sometimes it seems that the father and the brothers despises the poor boy...
they are characters with a lot of space to grow mentally and emotionally... can you imagine how satisfying it would be to see them both overcoming their traumas and becoming heroes at the end of a series?

I think I've worked out why Amaryllis is the only decent character out of the main group: screen presence. She's the star of every scene she's in. Whenever she's on the screen, you pay attention to what she's doing.
All the other girls (and Snapdragon) feel way more restrained. None of them really have the same scene presence as she does. Even when there's a scene that's focused on them, your attention wanders, and it becomes really easy to blank them out.
Snapdragon is also a girl too!

Amaryllis is easily one of the most likable characters on the show. She’s a really good, caring friend, and the only one who actually has a personality. Sure, she’s kinda a psycho, but I think I would be too if I was trapped in that world.
