Dry saute the mushrooms first then add a little oil, it allows the water to mostly cook out first so it can carmelize better and not stay mushy.

Thank you is really not adequate Dave to describe what a beautiful human being and a national treasure You are. I appreciate your humility and your interactive instruction. I would suggest to others if they have a way to download RUclips videos to create a library of Dave Canterbury videos because in the worst case scenario they could save the life of you and your family even your community. Thank you brother you do your heavenly Father proud. ❤️

Fresh, sauted 'shrooms always enhance a meal. Speaking of camp dishes... where's Rufus, the camp's dish washer? He's not been in a video for quite some time.

  • @DougShoeBushcraft

I agree with you, Dave- mushrooms are a supplement and a garnish. I try to reason w/ people who think they are going to live off mushrooms alone. -Not enough calories, man! But as a supplement they are awesome....

Been following for a spell now....never gets old....was watching a video of yours from a few years back about shooting shot through a muzzleloader....well I got something for you to try Dave....I loaded up my .50 cal. with 100 gr of Shockey's gold 2ff loose powder....then I put a patch over the muzzle & used my ball starter to create a cup for shot....I put some #7 1/2 shot in there & instead of cutting the excess patch like one would normally.....I carefully closed the overlap over the shot & put a shot card over it to keep it tight, basically creating a wad around the shot to stop lead fouling & to keep everything somewhat tight till it exits the muzzle & then I drove it home....now I was doing this in a old inline that I have....so when I touched off that 209 cap that old rifle roared....it did have a little scorching on the patch, but a 20 yard shot knocked a empty 1 pound fuel can clear off the stump I had it siting on....there was no penatration to the fuel can but I didn't expect any with light shot....Will do some more expermenting after deer season is done. The old rifle I was using was one I got in 2000,bore was fairly clean ,breach was as expected,no major fouling....may even try it in my old sidelock once I work out all the details.....give it a try let me know what you think....Thanks for all the teaching you do....

Dave, have you ever come across giant puffball mushrooms? My mother came across these vollyball sized mushrooms this fall and sent me a picture asking if they are safe to eat. I know nothing about mushrooms except you have to be super carefull and know what your doing. But after some research i learned they are called giant puffball mushrooms. And are edible! And they are just a giant, round, white ball of edible mushroom. So i went over and helped her collect 2 shopping bags of these things...cut them up and vaccume sealed them.

You should try avocado oil. Very healthy and high smoke point. No acrid flavor from burnt olive oil. Good stuff, especially for high temp fire meats.

Definitely don't use this video to self identify the mushroom, that was a sloppy job and can get people hurt, this is not dave's specialty. Didn't even go over lookalikes and differences. Dave you're cool but, dang lol as someone who loves mycology I cringed a lot

Hello Dave, I have a question for you.
Definitely the wrong place, but I'll try anyway.
Have you ever heard of, read, etc. from Robert Roger or Roger's Rangers?
I would be interested in what kind of equipment the rangers were out and about. I'm from Germany and have gotten very little out of it. Maybe the topic could interest you too, I would be very happy.
    With friendly greetings Peter

One of the things about you Dave is your ability to produce excellent food with simple ingredients in camp, away from built up camps, that is. You are of the "mans man" group and can cook, something that tough guys think is sissy. Outstanding (in the military since of the word).
I've been watching you ever since episode 1 of "Dual Survival", and still remain impressed with you knowledge and skill, and will remain a great fan.
If things really go to SHTF, your the guy to have learned from, really. I don't say this lightly. The things you teach us go well beyond "survival" skills, and you do so with a humble attitude, something that many of your contemporaries don't have. Once again, old Muttly gives you a snappy salute. ;-)
