Ajoura - Winter Festival

  • During my 2-week vacation, not only I managed to patch up all 9 previous pieces, I also remade Winter Festival. It somehow turned out to be really energetic and aggressive, to the point it could be branded as "rock" out of context; however, this is still "new age" for lack of better term.
Since E-dur key is not very convenient for a clarinet, I ended up playing only little bits with it, and everything else is made with synthesizers (Korg Legacy M1 (virtual synth) for strings, pads, first and backing lead, Roland SH-01 Gaia for second lead and filter sweeps), digital piano, stacked M-trons (strings and choir), three guitars, bass, harmonium and lots of percussion.
Originally, I've been planning to make about 16 pieces, but this project, which underwent lots and lots and lots of arrangements and rearrangements, takes too much of my powers, so 13 would be enough. This means we've got only 3 pieces left, one of which will be a complete overhaul of Fluff of Ages up to the point of non-recognition. I'll be taking a break to compose arrangements, and then I'll start recording and uploading them for you.

Thank you so much for listening. It just happened that where I live (Russia), the winter was lacking of snow, and everytime the snow appeared, it melted away very quickly...
...and then two days ago, in March, it appeared again!
Maybe this was a serious kick for me to finish the piece already.

Thank you so much. I'm trying to keep it up as much as I can.
About two weeks ago I started to play a saxophone and experienced so much fun that currently I'm trying to replace 50% clarinet parts with this instrument.

Literally just heard of this song (and band) for the first time in my life. Will get to listen to them more in the future.
See, in fact, I barely know anything about English modern music, all this time my modern music scope was around Russia, Brazil and Japan. Any coindences, therefore, are not my fault.

Question: I have an aesthetic blog and sometimes I like to post music on there. Would you be fine with me uploading your music on the blog? I'll credit you, of course.
Also, your stuff is fantastic, I know everyone loves going on and on about your SCP work, but your non-SCP stuff is really incredible and honestly breathtaking. You obviously put an incredible amount of effort in this music. Keep up the good work!

Well, if you credit my work and provide links, I'll be really happy. If your audience would listen to my music, this would be even better, since now I don't have any possible time (and drive) for self-promotion. Several more pieces are coming.

Hi Ajoura! I recently noticed that your old songs are dark and sad contrary to your recents ones. Why did you change your music style? Thanks for reading this comment!

    • @Ajoura
      @Ajoura  4 года назад +2

Hello. This might be because I've just decided not to load my listeners with my own problems and uncertainties, and empower them with positive senses. Even when in minor key, I don't want you all to feel dark, depressed, listless and/or, Matrix save you, sad and melancholic. Previously I tried, but that's because I was just interested in experiments, not with expression of mine own POV. My POV is very choleric, moodswinging and "straight to the point", so I just don't want to whine and be dark and sad.
Also, mood changes can be justified, since my style is still being molded. Very soon I'll remove the Clarinet & Synth compilation and will replace it with a saxophone and synth compliation, for I'm currently switching to saxophone and abandoning clarinet once and for all. I just feel like I would be having only one favourite solo woodwind instrument that I'm going to practice. The clarinet. even with its large range (and with me finally getting the intonation), is just way too soft, bland and "butler-like" for me (and it blends with flutes way too much) to convey what I mean. I needed a solo instrument that could be heard through my textures, and a saxophone works great for me. A bit unusual, since it finally makes the melody break out and be unusually buzzy, but I'm currently liking the result. It's just like beer, you hate it for the first time and then bam, and you're a gourmet.
Also, originally, I couldn't set with a genre. Dark ambient? Martial industrial? Dungeon synth? Bal-musette? Choro? So currently, I've just decided to produce new age music for lack of better term. Assembled a set of instruments I seem appropriate. And if we're on the new age wave, I don't want my music to make people turn off their minds and convert into soy zombies obsessed with opening their Third Eye. Instead, I'm actually trying to make a music that empowers people with all kinds of positive (or at least contemplative) emotions, from breaking the ice and fighting your own demons and world view, to experiencing a feeling of deep satisfaction.
Sorry for a lot of words, I always write similar posts in my VK group as well, since I have walls and walls of ideas to express. :D

That’s really poetic! Thanks for answering my question, especially when I know that you don’t usually answer comments as you said on the scp main theme video. Don’t worry if your answer is really long, I like to understand why you share these beautiful musics and what inspired you because they are all my life and I’ve been listening to them for almost 4 years.

    • @Ajoura

@@IAmFuntimeee Many thanks for listening. The problem is, I just wanted to make experimental yet accessible music while still not being forced into some particular genre niche. See, first of all, I'm a keyboardist (graduated a music school with a piano diploma in 2006), and also was taught guitar back in high school (mostly self-taught). But classical music seemed boring to me (unlike earlier musical genres), rock seemed way to noisy and already fully played, ambient and dungeon synth circles were populated by people who don't know jack about music theory. And I didn't want to sing, since I like when the message is conveyed through instruments alone. The final solution for me was to sing with instruments, that's why I started to research woodwinds and now ended up with a collection of folk flutes & reeds, and a saxophone. Woodwind melodies are less prone to noticeable intonation jerk-around than bandolim melodies.
Pretty soon, if I have time from my job, I'll replace all clarinet parts with saxophone, low recorders and lead synthesizer. And then there would be a Fluff of Ages re-arrangement. And then two final pieces.
I could release Fluff of Ages as it is, yet two years ago, I've lost all source files and all that's left is a final mp3. So we'll have to rebuild it.

Thank you. We're currently doing just about the same that almost everyone do: work from home (those who can't, just stay home or compromise; I work, since I work as a medical translator), avoid public places, etc.
Big cities have pass systems, though a lot of people tend to avoid it (just as usual, "my rules are not your rules"). Medicinal specialists work like horses.
It is said our country currently has one of the smallest mortality rates among the biggest countries, yet I can't actually confirm it, but we're still not at plateau (estimates are about mid-May).
We currently have May Holidays (May 1st, Holiday of Spring and Labor, and May 9th, Victory Day, and a lot of days that are usually dragged along), and people are either taking a rest, or working like me (I agreed to grab some orders). Sadly, we can't hold our annual Victory Parade, though Putin promised to hold it after the pandemic settles down a bit.
Sadly, due to the oil crisis our ruble plummeted once again, but we think it'll go back after a while. I was so scared of prices rising in future that I ran to the saxophone pawn shop and got myself an alto sax. Currently in process of switching from clarinet to sax as a main solo instrument. Prices retained *about* the same, however.
So, overall, we're still living our lives, just mostly at home.
