6:10 the key thing is that MK11 Geras barely got to use his time powers for cinematic stuff; MK1 was when they realized "oh huh, we somehow didn't do a fatality where he does time travel stuff? let's do that, and go even more insane with it" and it's awesome
That's probably why people hated him in MK11 because he was such a missed opportunity. "He has time powers but he doesn't use them? What the fuck Netherrealm? This guy sucks!"

Like he hits you upwards with the axe, then clashes with you in the air(kinda like his old upwards shoulder charge) and then maybe he grabs you and swings you towards the ground to then land on your ribs with the X-ray shot at the end. I really don't understand how anyone working on mk1 could see some of these xrays and think: "Meh, good enough", especially after comparing them to ones like Geras' or Raiden's, like if you're gonna deliver cool X-rays, don't just give them to some characters and then half-ass the rest you know?
I think keeping the launch into the air with no X-ray is good, but instead having him slam down into the opponent and having a face-down X-ray as the axe and his legs make contact and crush both their ribs with his stomp and their skull with the axe. It lacks the signature brutish strength that Shao has as is, like OP said.
@@scarymeunster9095 Ooo thhat sounds awesome too, it's a shame that the reduced the amount of x ray shots from the 3 in mk9 to just one, like specially with the cameo gimmick they could have kept it and made it so the cameo has 1 X-ray shot and the main would have 2. Stryker's fatal blow also goes really well with Baraka's because he sort of "tenderizes" the enemy's thorax before Baraka pierces the same place without the risk of his blade stopping on bone. Fascinating
Tanya's one is awesome, the fact that it pushes you towards the stick with all the impact force so it VERY quickly goes through your skull with no pause makes it better It's not like Cyrax's saw and Sareena's hand that they first hit you, then there is a pause, and then it goes through your body
The "overkill" aspect of the fatal blows always makes me like less of them The X-Rays (at least em MK9) were brutal but you could force you believe that "they can still fight". In X they were lesser-fatalities and after that... Some of them are brutal and COOLER than fatalities. Would be cool if, at least, they impact the gameplay. Like "your character had the leg break in the enemy fatal blow, now you walk slower and your jump is severely affected", just for example. Would make the fatal blows have an impact more than "an special" and make the expectation to do it/counter it even higher.
TBH a lot of kameos feel weird because all the opponents need to be standing up when move ends even if the last hit would clearly knock people down. Sareena and Motaro kicking people mid-air for them to land standing, Cyrax and Sektor literally blowing people up and they're somehow still standing, etc.
Kitana’s is identical to hers in 11 without the funny bounce I like that Smoke makes his partner disappear into smoke before the attack even though it doesn’t really contribute much If Geras is throwing you into another timeline, does that mean he just replaced his opponent with an alt universe version?
I don’t think Geras can actually open entire timelines at will, just points in a single one. Geras still needs the Hourglass to restart history in his 11 ending, so I imagine opening borders between them would take either that power as a Titan or something similar, since they’re the only ones who seem capable.
The fact it's a counter makes it even better, it's like with Dan's taunt Super, you wanna punch his stupid face and not let him keep going, but if you let it rock it's a lot of wasted time but VERY punishable XD
It’s really unfortunate for Shao. It starts out STRONG as hell with him charging with his axe. Super badass… then it ends with him…. Landing on you? Bro what
He should've slammed you back down, and either the x-ray shot being landing on you with a massive body smashing slam and stabs out in the face and throws you away, or the x-ray being when he would stab you in the face. Just needed the extra bit at the end of "Get away from me, vermin" instead of him walking off of you like you were done. Shao doesn't do that in ANY timeline.
I imagine it just isn’t enough to get a lot of good commentary going. Gameplay or major things like cinematic Fatalities or endings have a good bit to talk about, but the Fatal Blows are designed to be very compact and quick. There’s not much to go on besides what you see in the little choreography portion.
I understand not liking Darrius because his fatal blow and fatalities are generic, but he doesn’t have any crazy magic or abilities. He’s pretty much a normal street brawler, there’s not much he really CAN do.
My 1 issue with Li Mei's is that the momentum of the neck crack as she vaults by them doesn't carry over into the throw. She hits the grounds and grabs them by their back after instead of twisting the head and using the movement to spin them off their feet into the throw. Think like Sonya's X-ray in X when she throws them over her shoulder into the ground, except here it's just straight ahead.
The fatal blows actually feel a lot shorter since the kameo is apart of the blow and there’s only two x-rays. But that’s just like the finish them screen being shorter (to prevent toxicity). The fatal blow might be bcuz of pacing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Edit: Raiden’s is similar to mkx
@@Arcademan09 remember how the finish then screen in mk11 was much longer than the one now, usually if I lost or a friend or even a youtuber the opponent would have enough time to t bag 10 times or more and then fatal
You all got it completely wrong with Shao‘s Fatal Blow. You see, it’s actually a reference! It’s a reference to the best Fatality in MK vs DC, where Kano jumps on you at the end and NRS wanted to pay tribute to it by making Shao do the same ending.
Personally I love that pathetic little limp backwards the opponent does after Darius'. Like, the fact that they actually REACT to what just happened, and act like it really did do damage, definitely elevates it for me. I don't love it, but I do think you did it dirty. Strong 7/10 from me, MAYBE an 8 if I'm feeling charitable.
Shang stung is a 9 or 10 because rather than just break your bones like all these x-rays do, he injects your bones with a weird serum that causes them to mutate and spike out all around your body. It's so unique
Liu Kang's Fatal Blow makes me wish more of the Fatal Blows left some change on the stage. i.e. Scorpion's leaving singed marks on the spot the Izuna Drop landed, Sub-Zero leaving behind frost and ice from his. But maybe that would make Liu Kang's feel less special
What this game accomplished with its supers was really cool in my opinion. Every character does something unique to their character and there’s barley any overlap.
Darrius’ is the most realistic and painfully relatable because of its simplicity. Also Sindel’s is easily at least an 8 because of the brutality of her ripping your legs out (not crushing your balls haha)
Because Max brought it up with Raidens Fatal, I just want to say that the Fatal Blows in MK1 remind me of the Super Moves from Injustice, specifically with how they start. The cinematic view of the character getting ready to strike while yelling, with the echo gives me heavy Injustice Super Move vibes.
I may be alone in this, but I don't like the way NRS has turned Xray moves so brutal. People are surviving having their skulls or spines crushed or impaled?! I'm fine with over the top violence, but this has passed the goofiness threshold for me, so many of these attacks should just be fatalities.
honestly i don't really mind the simple ones like Darrius's or kanos, in a game with literal gods, sorcerers, vampires and ninjas doing supernatural stuff. Having simple, straightforward fatal blows Done by relatively normal people ( emphasis on relatively, given some of the non human stuff on characters like Kano) is kind of refreshing to see honestly
Dude, the way Goro rips the arms in his Fatal Blow is the same way he rips Jax's arms in Scorpion's Revenge, even the animation of the x-ray is the same. Very cool!
If Shao brought the pummel of the axe down on the head at the end of it (maybe with a little axe twirl), I feel that could've brought it up to an 8, maybe a 9.
I like how stryker having arguably one of the beat rated kameo fatal blows is just him being police man while cyrax does the saw thing

Stryker's fatal blow also goes really well with Baraka's because he sort of "tenderizes" the enemy's thorax before Baraka pierces the same place without the risk of his blade stopping on bone. Fascinating
You should see MK1 Scorpion's fatal blow on mobile.
Tanya's one is awesome, the fact that it pushes you towards the stick with all the impact force so it VERY quickly goes through your skull with no pause makes it better
It's not like Cyrax's saw and Sareena's hand that they first hit you, then there is a pause, and then it goes through your body
I like how cyrax is affected by his bombs everytime he uses, but all his parts just fly and fuse back, cool robot concept
4:54 kenshi its MOTIVATED
Im a massive sucker for characters who just do straight hands, so Darius has to be an 8 for me. Its just so nice
Stryker was so trigger happy that he didn't let Baraka finish his move 😂😂
Screamed out loud @ 7:40 Reminds me of Roller King in 4th grade...
I definitely prefer the ones in 11. Something about them feel a lot cooler and brutal to me for most of them
Darius and reptile go really well together for their fatal blow
it’s a good combo
Rain's was so cooooollll tho!!!! How many times do we see ANYONE get bent at the waist like that?
9:55 Johnny Cages I feel like is a reference to the Arnold Schwarzenegger film The running man
10:35
I just realized that Kung Lao's fatal blows looks like a level 1 from Vegeta Blue from DBFZ
6:14 EXCUSE YOU, GERAS IS MY SON AND I LOVED HIM SINCE THE DAY HE WAS BORN.
that aladdin reference to li me was funny 😂
Definitely not the next MK video I expected on this channel but here we are
The "overkill" aspect of the fatal blows always makes me like less of them
The X-Rays (at least em MK9) were brutal but you could force you believe that "they can still fight".
Rate all the fatalities
...on the Nintendo Switch
I do like how the film camera says "error macro" in flashing red letters at the bottom after Johnny Cage slams his opponent's face into it.
TBH a lot of kameos feel weird because all the opponents need to be standing up when move ends even if the last hit would clearly knock people down. Sareena and Motaro kicking people mid-air for them to land standing, Cyrax and Sektor literally blowing people up and they're somehow still standing, etc.
I like how Sub-Zero main fighter action in fatal blows is a reference to how he killed Hanzo in MK Legends Scorpions Revenge for that it's a 10.
Baraka’s Fatal Blow is just like his original MK9 X-Ray.
nah bruh johnny literally dances on you, grabs the viewer and crushes you with the camera, that’s so hard😭😭
If Jax had said "gotcha" that would've made it so much better
Kitana’s is identical to hers in 11 without the funny bounce
I like that Smoke makes his partner disappear into smoke before the attack even though it doesn’t really contribute much
If Geras is throwing you into another timeline, does that mean he just replaced his opponent with an alt universe version?
I don’t think Geras can actually open entire timelines at will, just points in a single one. Geras still needs the Hourglass to restart history in his 11 ending, so I imagine opening borders between them would take either that power as a Titan or something similar, since they’re the only ones who seem capable.
If the international love setup was done then johhny's fatal blow would have been beyond a 10/10
Glad they brought x-rays back for the fatal blows. Krushing blows were cool, but the visual effect of the skeleton is much more fitting here
Darrius has the best Kameo fatal blow in the game in my opinion! That frickin leg break! OUCH!!!
I like how simple the fatalities and fatal blows are in this game. Not as crazy and over the top like in MK11 and over quickly. Nice haha
Honestly out of all of them, I think Johnny has the best one with that little dance of his hahaha.😹
And the crowd chanting "Johnny! Johnny! Johnny!"
@@darthcerebus yeah I honestly thought when he hits w the axe, he would have brought the opponent back down and that’s where the X-ray would be
I wish Max did this with the other doods. Always more fun with them involved hearing their opinions
I imagine it just isn’t enough to get a lot of good commentary going. Gameplay or major things like cinematic Fatalities or endings have a good bit to talk about, but the Fatal Blows are designed to be very compact and quick. There’s not much to go on besides what you see in the little choreography portion.
“Frost is S tier”. Just tosses ice sais.
“Reptile’s it mid”. Literally chomps their torso and it shatters.
Striker's Fatal blow, AKA "STOP RESISTING!" 5:15
Nah it's Police Brutality Coming Up
I prefer MK11 a lot more than this game becaise it felt like Endgame.
This feels like a reboot when MK9 was already a perfect reboot.
Why does everyone think sindel "crushes your nuts"? She pulls your thigh bones from your hips. You all need to use your eyes.
Torn groin for sure lol
Stryker be like
YOU CALL THIS RESISTING ARREST? WE CALL THIS A DIFFICULTLY TWEAK
Funny how havik literally beats you so hard that his fists come off then just stabs you with the bone
The fatal blows actually feel a lot shorter since the kameo is apart of the blow and there’s only two x-rays. But that’s just like the finish them screen being shorter (to prevent toxicity). The fatal blow might be bcuz of pacing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Edit: Raiden’s is similar to mkx
"to prevent toxicity"
I'm sorry what?
@@Arcademan09 remember how the finish then screen in mk11 was much longer than the one now, usually if I lost or a friend or even a youtuber the opponent would have enough time to t bag 10 times or more and then fatal
WHERE'S THE INTERNATIONAL LOVE MUSIC FOR JOHNNY
In terms of Kameo Fighters fatal blows, I think Stryker, Kung Lao, Scorpion, and Shujinko have the best ones.
Johnny Cage's is a 10/10 😂 you just forgot to add the "International Love" background music
I like how Stryker's Fatal Blow is literally just his X-Ray from MK9.
I agree about Kung Lao’s! Simple doesn’t mean bad
honestly i don't really mind the simple ones like Darrius's or kanos, in a game with literal gods, sorcerers, vampires and ninjas doing supernatural stuff.
Still don't understand why these aren't considered a finisher when you kill for match win. Feels so weird to do this and then do a fatality afterwards
I liked x-ray/fatal blows more before they became mini-fatalities.
The lethality in them is jarring compared to, say, MK9’s.
10:10 I got hit by this in the beta. If you hold it all the way its an unblockable. I bodyslammed my tv.
