  • In Episode 196 of Mike Finnegan's Garage, we visit Harrell Engine and Dyno and Customs By Bigun in Mooresville, North Carolina. At HED, we check out the broken Hemi that powered Blasphemi, my 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air, to the A/GAS Class win at Hot Rod Drag Week 2019. We also get a good look at the replacement parts Pete Harrell is going to use to upgrade the powerplant. These parts include a new cast aluminum engine block from Keith Black Racing Engines: keithblack.com/
    Forged pistons and connecting rods from CP-Carrillo: www.cp-carrillo.com/
    Total Seal piston rings: www.totalseal.com/rings/gaple...
    and a Callies crankshaft: www.callies.com/
    We'll be re-using the same Stage V cast aluminum Hemi Heads: www.stagev.com/
    and The Blower Shop 8-71 high-helix roots supercharger: theblowershop.com/product/8-7...
    After visiting Pete we walked next door to Customs By Bigun to see what hot rods they were working on and to have the Holley fuel injectors taken from Blasphemi and Game Over, my twin-turbo 711ci Hemi-powered jet boat, flow-tested. The results were surprising:
    The injectors were 120 and 160 lb/hr flow-matched units from Holley: www.holley.com/products/fuel_...
    Thanks for watching and for supporting my racing habit. Want to help out? Grab a shirt, hat, hoodie or stickers at www.fsgmgarage.com
    Thanks!

    I've cleaned some injectors in the past with an ultrasonic cleaner.
    And then I hooked a plastic tube to the input end, filled the tube with seafoam, set my compressor to my fuel pressure, hooked a 9v battery to the terminals to open the injector and blew the seafoam through.
    Probably not ideal but for a backyard kinda guy like me I've never had an issue.

    • @Joe.Doucette
      @Joe.Doucette 2 года назад +4

      I didn't have an ultrsonic cleaner but I did a similar thing as you using Seafoam and a fuel pump instead of the compressor. Told me right away which ones were plugged or dead and got some cleaned up enough to get a street truck running.
      Like you say... backyard fix that works good enough for me.

    Great episode! So much great info on the engine itself and especially the flow bench! So cool to see it in action, first time for me.
    Ideally, you want to go with bigger injectors once you get to about 90% duty cycle. Above that, the fuel doesn't atomize properly and won't burn as well. You can see it when Eric runs them fully open, it's just three streams, instead of a mist. You need that mist as fuel doesn't burn as a liquid, but a gas, or miniscule droplets.

    I bought a injector flowtester with heated ultra sonic on alibaba for like 160$, AUtool CT160. Kept sticking open injectors on my supra. Seems to work well enough. Flows 4x 800CC injectors at like 35psi and you can vary the pulse width and 'rpm' independently with a whole bunch of different auto clean programs. The ultra sonic alone was worth it because I rebuild a few moto carbs every few months. Whole thing is basically a cubic foot, volume wise, so would be epic for something like drag week.
    Would highly recommend it or one like it if you mess with injectors at all.

      You can spend more money and get 'flow matched' sets, where they basically test them like this before they sell them, and you get the results so that you know all your injectors are running at (eg) 165. ie, what they actually flow, not just what the manufacturer said.

    52:25 latent heat of vaporisation, The fuel injection is taking heat out of the air charge below the rotors instead of above. just like a blow through carb. That's assuming you're spinning the blower the same and you're not just making more power with a lower driven but more efficient blower.
    Both could be true.

      @@Turbochargedtwelve The nice thing would be if some were above/level with the rotors, and the rest below. It would act as an intercooler without taking up space in the blower.

      Also, the extra fuel could be doing a better job of lubricating the blower, making it more efficient.
      That said, I don't think this would make a big difference.

    Could you put 2 stroke oil in the fuel system before you store your injectors or engine? Whould that help?

    • @whyshouldipickaname
      @whyshouldipickaname 2 года назад +1

      I've heard is 2 stroke is bad for catalytic converters. and the oil thickens when its left out in the air. I've seen that on 2stroke carbs where the fuel evaporated and left the oil in the carb and clogs everything.

    Excellent video,glad you guys were able to make it so informative. Started my morning contemplating paying to have my 1150 dominators split since I need to fabricate a new top for the tunnel ram anyway but now really considering an E.F.I. setup. Happy to see you getting problems ironed out on the 55. Keep up the great work. 👍
