All they needed to do was have the LED screen blend into the stage. They basically set a TV down front and center and said good enough. At least try to hide the edges with black curtains or something. The main gimmick of the Miku concerts is the illusion that she is actually there. Miku is the star of the show, and the stage needs to be built for her.
Much like they did for NicoNico 2022 where they had a giant screen, but made a spectacle of it and went all out. If they had done that I don't think people would be complaining that much.
Even then, to spend as much money as you do to watch Miku on stage, the LED is a huge slap in the face. The holo is synonymous with the Miku experience, and this year’s expo just screams, “We cut as many corners as possible to maximize profit.”
NO! I want them to call back all ticket holders and do a proper concert with hologram! Will cost thousands? Of course, but that is the MINIMUM expectation! Screw the ROI!
I feel like corporations ruin everything. Like bro we can't even have Miku without them going to the nearby Walmart and buying the biggest screen for 400 dollars and calling it a day. Miku Expo is like my dream and honestly if this continues like this I will feel like I missed my chance to go to a real Miku Expo
This is not a tv, its huge. As you can see from the videos, projection concerts also have a lot of flaws like reflections, projector glare, low brightness and contrast and generally lower resolution images.
I fully and whole heartly agree with you. I dream of being able to go see miku and to see that they have used this option instead of how its supposed to be as a hologram. Its truly ruined the chance. I can do this at home on my tv. Imagine if youtube "continue watching?" came up i would DIE.
Don’t forget to mention that VIP tickets normally get you good seats and a goodie bag of exclusive stuff, but they ran out. They literally have a headcount of VIP members, yet they ran out, like, how does that even happen??? 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Crunchyroll hosting an expo? What could go wrong? (many things went wrong) Honestly reminds me of when Crunchyroll hosted an expo here in Australia;; (another mess)
I went to a Miku expo in 2016. I watched up front, and I thought it was magical. The clear screen opens up for many optical illusions, makes it feel like she's actually on the stage with everyone, and it feels less cramped. I wish they showed preview images on the website so people knew what they're getting into. It's upsetting that they would make such a huge change without informing people because audience members otherwise assumed the concert would be like the many other ones in the past. Thia is expecially sad on her anniversary...
On its own, sure, it doesn't look THAT bad and in fact to many people looks great, the LED screen isn't the inherent problem; rather people were expecting the better-looking glass screen as advertised in promo material for the Expo, and rightfully so because nowhere did it say that this show WOULDN'T have it, and it's the standard for Miku shows.
And people who bought the tickets stated Crunchyroll prohibited goers from taking their own glowsticks to the show, and only the ones sold at the expo would be allowed because, according to them, "otherwise it would interfere with the HOLOGRAMS." Crunchyroll willingly LIED to the public about the event being made with holograms to sell the pitiful amount of 95 glowsticks they had!
@@TwilightWolf032that's the thing that is making me mad too. The reasoning with the AR screens I totally get, especially after attending an EU miku con where some people disregarded this and I saw a glaring reflection on stage myself. But this is just bad and I myself will be very disappointed, if the same happens in the end of the year with Miku Expo EU
hell it's the standard for literally any show period for the stage to revolve around its performer. it just, looks lazy and is a disappointing cash grab
dude i just went to portland's miku expo yesterday night and, something that probably everywhere i'm sure has problems with, but scalpers were /bad/ this time around. PDX sold out of tickets immediately so i had to buy resold tickets from scalpers, and then TWO DAYS before the concert i get a message from the site the seller used saying there was an issue and that i would be issued new tickets. never got them. i had to be written into the concert and given a seat off to the very right of the main seating. all to see an LED screen that looked exactly like i was watching the youtube version of miku expo. they used the same sparkle transitions when the characters phased out and everything. such a damn mess. i was expecting holograms too so, to say i cried was an understatement
it probably didn't help that Crunchyroll had a code where you could buy tickets early but the code was literally something like crunchyrollmiku and anyone could use it subscribed to Crunchyroll premium or not....so if you didn't know about that code it was really easy to miss tickets
@@cendrecovfefe2496 Yeah, but she even said on Twitter themselves that they’re a VOCALOID producer. (In response to videos that called her a VTuber) So she probably prefers that. Or it would even make more sense to include that she has done both or has VTubing as a side-gig.
@@Honda_Kiku yes I understand how she doesn't want to fall under just a vtuber when she makes music ! I had also posted a comment about it before seeing URS !
I went to the Vancouver show and have been following this since i went on the bus back home. Just some other things to note: 1. The glowsticks, which are a major part of the concerts ofc, weren't part of the VIP package. So they would have to get it through the merch table. Obviously, sold out quick and they never got one. 2. The website says that off brand glowsticks are not permitted and we had to use previous Miku concert glowsticks 'cause other glowsticks could interfere with the stage. The glowsticks can reflect on the glass, which you can see in old Miku concerts. But there was no point since an LED screen was used. So people were feining for $60 CAD glowsticks that didn't matter at all. Some people are going as far to try to sue for false advertising. 3. This concert was supposed to happpen in 2020 and i remember them advertising that these were cities that they've never been too, which is true. So, yes a huge majority of people that went never been to a Miku concert. 3. The merch booth was outside the venue and opened at 2pm. I got news of this a day or two before the concert day from my friend, which they found on facebook. But twitter users were told the morning of the event about the merch booth. 2pm is such a weird time 'cause people are still at work or school. Apperently, there's a pattern with concerts sponsored by Crunchyroll with the merch booth. I've seen that Ado's concert was sponsored by them and did the same thing. If you're wondering, no, it's not normal to have the merch for concerts outside the venue. Every other concert i've been to always had it inside so that people who were actually going to the concert gets the merch. So, just general messy management. Another note with the glowsticks and merch in general. It's normal for bands to bring less merch than they need too so they don't have to pay to import it back or to other venues. But when you have the glowsticks selling out multiple times and on every post you make, have people begging to stock them again, not getting a hint and bring barely 100 glowsticks to a 3k venue. Idk to me it's just.... stupid
@@k1or1YT Oh for sure you'll have fun! I did with my friend too and we had seats; screaming our heads off and dancing lol. But we didn't know about any of this since we were the first concert. It's just people who spent +300 for tickets + plus travel expenses to see this is who i feel bad for. Unfortunately, the LED screen is gonna be there for all of the shows from the look of it, if that's what you're worried about. And for the merch, try to shoot for the morning if you really want the dibs for merch. That's what some people did at my show.
I wrote this 2:30 in the morning, so i forgot some things, but one thing i forgot to mention was that people were perdicting that the reason why it's LED is because i believe that Cochella is in the middle of the NA tour and they want to save the glass screen for that
@@yanautau5041 From the clips I saw it looks like the same 2016 concert and surprisingly still the same rules on bans. I can kinda understand they don't want people to bring a specific glowstick like the UO which its entire purpose is to be extremely bright and could pose an issue to their setup, but that only matters to the people in the front rows. So I guess their logic is to just not allow anybody to bring their own stuff. There is actually a whole history of nuisance of people making and bringing things intentionally to be bothersome at these japanese concerts. The ban won't bother me too much as a long time goer of all sorts of japanese concerts that involve these idol subculture etiquette, but it will suck for new-goers as it's quite a fun experience to participate in a huge crowd, kinda like how western concerts people will pull out their lights/phone light for ballads, etc.
OMG YES I WAS REALLY UPSET ABT THE LIGHTSICKS 😭 my sister and i got vip tickets which in total were $499 and when we got there the lightsticks were sold out which i had been super excited to buy 😔 BUT i still loved it it was my first vocaloid concert so im really happy i got to go !!!
And it's not only limited to anime or games, it breached concert events like this one Not surprised if people will stop paying their hard earned money just for subscriptions or games they launched, and the company will end up with financial collapse, as well close their doors.
Fun fact crunchyroll actually don't care for anime, there many evidence they don't translate the anime faithfully but put there agenda then making it accurate or closest translation.
@@TheDragonfriday Well, that's pretty much to say no "real" linguistic would like to work for crunchyroll likely because of how dysfunctional the company is.
I went to Toronto 2016 Miku Expo…it was so good…I have tickets for NYC in a couple of weeks and finding this info out has actually just really disappointed me. I’m still gunna have a fun time with my bestie and bop to vocaloid but like man what the hell. AND no recording?? I mean I’m still gunna do it….but like wtf
Don't forget, since it's not a hologram, their excuse for needing to buy the specific lightsticks is out the window. You can and should protest by using your own, much cheaper lightsticks.
@@Ephra_wangai This is the first I've heard of the whole no Glowsticks coz it might "interfere with the Hologram" and it reeks of utter BS. Folks bring their own Lightsticks to the Jp Mirai concerts all the time (of course ppl still buy the one at the venue coz its a nice memento) and there is literally no difference from those glowsticks to the the generic one's you find at Donkey in Jp.
I also went to the one in Toronto 2016. I had allot of fun back then. For 2024 I mean, I enjoyed the show in Pheonix, but Crunchyroll could've done better.
Exactly. My mom bought tickets for us to go 3 months ago. I was so excited to the point where I cried. My first vocaloid concert, for my birthday, and we get this?...😞
Me too. I've been a fan before I even turned 10 years old and this is a major disappointment. Literally childhood dreams crushed. (I'm turning 18 this year)
Yikes. I went in 2018 and I was hoping the quality would be great this time as well, excited to see how far they came. But now I’m really worried cuz my friends and I paid a LOT for this.
I was at the 2018 miku expo for my very first miku concert and man, seeing this is heart breaking when I think that this was the first concert of many vocaloid fans.. I think the atmosphere is the most important in those concerts, being surrounded by other fans with the same passion as you, but come on!
I hate how they're handling Miku's brand as of late. No proper concerts, no new games, no new modules, less songs with Miku as main character in them. It's all become just a huge prize figurine sellout. Her brand has become so muddy, they totally finished off her digital idol persona. Her new designs are super random and don't feel like anything Miku related and I think it's been years since we've had our last Miku technology collab.
I was part of the team that brought the first Miku Fest at Anime Expo back in 2010 (My name is even in the credits of the DVD) The biggest headache for getting it set up was that the Dilad board ( the screen she was projected on to) almost didn't arrive in time. Fortunately it ended up arriving on time. Barely. It was a great show and one of my favorite acheivements for the time I worked for AX. CR doing it for the first time...is not an excuse. CR has WAY more money than we did at AX that year.
The reason I wanted to see a “live” Miku event was the point that the hologram projection looks like an anime style girl on a stage that does very cool music. And not having glowsticks purchase contingencies for everyone is bloody stupid. Cringeyroll have to be the dumbest putzes on the planet for the crap they’ve pulled through the years. Kind of expected that they accidentally fell into their roles by starting as anime pirates. But zero business awareness or acumen.
I honestly feel so bad for all the fans that went to this concert. As someone who went to the 2016 one in LA, it was an amazing experience and the hologram really adds to that. They were robbed of the full experience for their money, and i just know that tickets were WAY more expensive than when I went because Vocaloid’s popularity has increased through the past 8 years. Hopefully refunds or some sort of deal can be worked out to repay everyone.
It is nice and good for them if people still enjoyed it but they still deserve better. It is not a technology issue since Miku concerts had been done in transparent screens/hologram for over a decade. And the ticket fees are higher than ever.
😢ive been waiting since i was 12 to get that magical feeling from seeing a hologram vocaloid concert 😭im 26 now and have never been more disappointed 😞
U N ME BROTHER! I'm 20 and my parents couldn't never afford to pay a ticket, now that im finally an adult with a job I was very excited to see Hatsune Sama here at Mexico city and they bring this shit! Literally the concert is a few days b4 my birthday which makes me feel even worst! A lot of people wouldn't understand what this means 4 me.
About the glow sticks, or "Penlights", those who arent familiar with the Miku concerts might think that you can just buy a dollar store penlight for cheap...NO...you can't Normal penlights interfere with the holographic technology, so Crypton ALWAYS sells custom penlights as a way to circumvent this issue and ban any other pen light, which was still enforced at this concert as well So many were also upset that they not only spent money on a VERY expensive penlight designed for holograms, ON TOP of spending $100-200 on tickets, only to be greeted with a NON-hologram concert...so yeah ppl have a right to be upset 😑
At the risk of sounding like a smartass, how no one saw this coming from the beginning is beyond me given Crunchyroll's reputation has completely fucking died at this point due to their asswipe business practices. My heart bleeds for the people who had been waiting for this since _2020_ just to be met with the technical flub to end them all. What a collective slap in the fucking face.
I'm sure people did but did not care because they have not had an NA expo in 6 years. They're getting desperate to see Miku Live because JP and CN have all the fun. and if that means going through CR to make it happen they will take the risk.
was never able to afford it as a kid, 2020 came and the concert i was going to got cancelled, 2021 livestream was a mess with me and my sister watching them play obscure ass songs at 1AM with models completely different from the usual miku expo, and now that i can finally live my dream in person, this.
I was at the recent Portland concert, it was utterly disappointing to see an LED screen, while I paid $200+ for GA tickets, (thanks ticketmaster) plus another $1000 for international flights and hotel. I asked some other people who were also there at the time, and they were sad as well, but the concert itself was very fun, meeting the people and singing along to the songs. NOT WORTH $200 though. BRING BACK THE HOLOGRAM also another speculation, Crunchyroll also hosted another *world tour* for Ado, another popular J-Pop artist under UMG. And that was a disaster on its own. Venues are too small, unconventional seating and admimission process, it was hell. The Malaysia concert at least was nice, but I couldn't say the same for people who went to the America concerts.
This is so crazy for a 10th anniversary concert. Another thing is that the setlist was shorter too, compared to NA and JP tours, quality dipped everywhere:(
Well, if Crunchyroll and/or other companies other than CRYPTON FUTURE MEDIA is doing the planning or taking over future Miku Expos than kiss my next purchases for future tickets goodbye CRYPTON FUTURE MEDIA
I was at Miku Expo London 2020 and loved it. I already have my tickets for her return in October, but am definitely getting nervous about Crunchyroll screwing that up now.
I've bought tickets for Miku Expo Europe just a week ago, I've never had a chance to go to her concert before... at this point I'm totally nervous too I absolutely don't want to visit such an event to see just a LED screen😢 Doubts are also beginning to arise as to whether the "real Miku" will ever return to us for a world tour...
I bought my tickets for Miku Expo Mexico City last year and I've never got the chance to go to her concert b4 since my parents couldn't afford it now that I'm an adult with a job i feel disappointed...
@@richxeehrose5579 that's so relatable, I had never a chance to visit Miku's concert before because I used to live in Russia and almost nothing comes there including Miku Expo... now living in Europe and finally being able to fulfill my dream I just watch how that shit happens, so dissapointing
All this talk about the Miku Expo using LED screens is devastating and disappointing to me. I've been wanting to go to the Expo since 2016 had a chance to go in 2020 when it was coming to Canada. I even got a passport to attend the concert with a friend since I don't live far from the boarder, but it got canned in 2020 and now I have a second chance to finally watch the expo and this happens. We should've seen this coming because it's Crunchyroll we're dealing with. They are infamous in the Anime community and they like to cut corners with content. Sadly, Miku Expo was not going to be an exception. If this does not kill the NA expo then they should not host any other concert just as this. Let it be fan funded and let Crypton pull the strings. don't like them do this ever again. Non the less, I will still enjoy the concert with my buds since I got everything I need for the upcoming month.
Their disregard for fans such as yourself is reprehensible and disrespectful! Luckily I don’t have far to travel and aim to have a great time and I hope you and your friends do too 😊
this is going to be my first miku expo, and i too was extremely excited to be going. once i saw the led controversy, it did make me a bit upset that it wouldnt be the best of quality compared to past expos. while i understand the people selling their tickets (since they were so expensive), i personally think that i wouldnt be this mad about it. again, this is my first so ive never seen what it could be except for online. i love hatsune miku a lot, so i think ill just enjoy it to the fullest, no matter how small the screen is. everyones entitled to their own opinion abt it tho💙
I’m going in a month from now and now I have caught wind of the this issue I’m sad because this would be my first ever hatsune miku concert with my grandma and personally I don’t see the screen as the issue but Ik I don’t want to not spend time with my grandma (who i rarely see since i moved away) but I’ll have to see more about this ….😢
@@Amina02 ik im going w my dad but im sure itll be a lot of fun :) theres tons of people that rlly enjoyed it so i wouldnt worry too much (but i understand if ur concerned abt it)
This is so disappointing. My sister is a huge Miku fan and has wanted to go to a concert for years, she deserves better. That said, I'm sure she'll still have fun. But when I decided to tag along with her it was mainly to see the cool technology of a vocaloid concert. I'll still go as long as my sister does, but I'm not nearly as excited anymore. I just hope I can fake excitement well enough that my disappointment doesn't rub off on my sister
"the cool technology of vocaloid" ??? what do you mean? you can literally buy a projector and a big pane of glass and recreate this in your bedroom for less than the cost of a BACK ROW ticket to a miku concert. (which is around $600+ these days) the only reason people hate this LED screen is because it's just a black box. it's not a glass screen, it's not transparent. all the illusion of it being a "real hologram" (which it isn't, holograms aren't consumer yet) is lost because the producers of the concert didn't care about the quality or reason it even is a concert to begin with (they need to watch the 2009 concerts lol)
I went to San Jose on Monday!! They had more light sticks, and it seems like the overall attitude towards this year's Miku Expo has improved a little. I have seen videos of people cheering for Elmo as advertisements were shown, someone recorded a video of the concert on their 3ds, Kaito Water, etc! I had a lot of fun as it was my first Miku concert and I have been a vocaloid fan for around 7 years now, I went in cosplay as Marionette Miku with the clown makeup and all and my friend went as Matryoshka Gumi :)
you should check mexico miku expo you had to stay in the line 3 houres before the event starts and you left thenline organizers tells you you loose your vip ticket
I am planning on going to the Dallas date still, as I have been listening to Miku all the back in 2007 and I've never been able to make it to a live show. It's literally a dream come true for me, and I'm going to enjoy it no matter what. But the presentation is upsetting... it feels half assed and there are a few songs I wish that were played instead of some others, but I'm still gonna get lit tho.
I'm probably not going this year as i went to the dallas Miku Expo in 2018, but i would be extremely disappointed if they didnt have the hologram here in DFW given the company that makes the projectors is here;;; My husband actually worked in the DLP projector department at the time so it was really interesting for him as well even though he wasnt the biggest vocaloid fan.
I went in 2018 as well in austin and it was awesome. The tickets weren’t even that expensive really. Now I’m paying a premium for a regular ticket - it better not be like what i’m seeing here. I went to Ado sponsored by Crunchyroll and that was really good in quality. Hopefully they can bring more to the table when my concert comes around
Went to the Portland concert...I had a good time despite it but it was still so disappointing. Kind of heartbreaking. I've been waiting for an opportunity to go to a Miku Expo since I was really young, and the one chance I had to make this dream come true, and this happens...
Yeah, I went to Expo San Jose, it being my first, I didn’t know what to expect, but it was pretty jarring to see a screen. At the very least, I noticed that it was very far from being seamless, but is still enjoyed it either way
Im going to the london concert in like october and i really hope they dont have the LED screen for the europe tour like im sure ill have a great time either way but considering the venue size, i dont think itll work with an led screen. And with the lightsticks at the portland show, i googled how big the venue was and it holds aproximately 3000 people so idk why or how they thought 95 would be enough especially if it was a sold out show. Sincerely hoping they dont do smth like that here where the venue holds over 12,000 but yk
i'm not happy about the led screen because it looks janky in videos. at the same time i'd be happy just to be hanging out with vocaloid fans and celebrating music i've loved since i was a kid. would i adore having the original setup back because it looks more immersive to me? absolutely. would i appreciate being told before hand 'this is the setup we have going' so i'm not shocked? a hundred percent. its not a dealbreaker it just looks really funky if you're not looking straight on from the pit. its like they forgot people were gonna be sitting on the sides.
I’m going to the concert in NJ with my friend. My first and last Miku concert was the one in New York 2016 and I had a GREAT time when I went. I’m 21 now and really looking forward to seeing Miku after 8 years have passed since I went, but now I’m a bit worried with how it’s gonna go. I’m still going obviously cause my friend and I have been stoked af since Christmas, but I hope the experience will be as good as it was in middle school.
I just looked up that they make 27 million dollars a year, and this is what y'all do, I for one couldn’t sleep at all if this was gonna be my representation! Thanks for sharing this story, and have a great day. 🤯😂😇😂🤯
There was a Miku Expo in 2020 in London, and despite covid and everything that happened, that one still had the holograms with it, though it did contain reused animations for a couple songs from when they were performed at past events
8:30 Even myself who bought a Mexico City ticket (right at the venue's selling spot with physical cash), still found the pre-sale code without being a Crunchyroll sub and was able to access the pre-sale of my country. I didn't buy it from there because I wasn't planning to, but it felt so fucking funny they let that vulnerability happen.
9:25 - This is a late add on, but went to the Phoenix show, there was only one box of 95 lightsticks as well too. Some people (including myself) went up to people in front of the line to buy upsells if they wanted a chance of one. I’d say roughly 500+ people getting sunburnt in the arizona heat of the merch line and only 95 lightsticks. A bunch sold out in general tbh, crap ton of shirts though
I went to Day 2 of Miku Expo 2024 San Jose. I can see how they used a screen. I honestly enjoyed it. It was the first ever concert I attended my whole life. I’m happy I got to see Miku live. I still had lots of fun.
I’ve loved miku since early 2000s and never gotten to go since my family is not very well off and I hope the trendhoppers and big brands don’t ruin the thing that kept me from ending it all
I went to a vocaloid concert back in like 2012 or so. It was at Anime Expo. They had the fancy screens and what not. It was awesome. Granted I was snuck in line with the help of some friends (I still dont understand how I managed to get in without a ticket) and saw the show for free but even back then there was a ton of care at producing these shows. Its a shame the quality and care is disappearing.
So, if this is what's happening with Miku Expo, I guess the only way to go is Magical Mirai. Which is only in Osaka and Tokyo... Time to start saving for plane tickets, I guess. (Well, also MikuFes, but that's also only in Japan, so the point still stands).
was there anyone ever in history who has ever complained about the "quality of the projection?" most ppl don't even know it's a projection they think its a hologram. everyone knows she's not real that's like, her whole appeal. we have tv's?? I mean seriously who greenlit that????
im going to the expo in the AFAS in the netherlands. i rlly hope its not gonna be a screen but actually a hologram. its gonna be my first miku expo and i dont wanna like be disappointed with bwhat i paid for. however im still a die hard fan and i will go no matter what!!
Japanese companies wouldn't cut corner like this. Crunchyroll just started to bring over artists from Japan and they've already fucked up, they need to get it together. good on everyone for fighting back.
For the recent Ado concert, also powered by crunchy roll, used an LED screen for the front side of the Ado Box simulating a cage/shadow. Very annoyed we didn’t get the proper clear Ado Box. Unfortunately makes me doubt the show
The SJ venue was a total shitshow. No signage for the GA vs. the VIP lines, three different GA lines coming from three different directions that converged right before the door and you couldn’t even get to the merch table without a ticket and ever was sold out hours before doors every night so if you didn’t feel like waiting for five hours you weren’t gonna get anything.
From what I've heard, the biggest problem with the LED screen was that it was the *glass screens* that were advertised and promised, and then not delivered. It isn't "they aren't required to tell what format the show will be in," like I saw one chat message say, they literally said what format the show would be in (glass screens) and the show was *not* in that format. It's straight up false advertising, and I'd be pretty pissed too if I spent hundreds of my hard-earned dollars to see a show that wasn't what I thought I was paying for. If they didn't have the money or space for the glass screens, they shouldn't have advertised glass screens. If they had been up-front about the LED screen, it probably wouldn't have been as much of an issue.
Another note on the presale code: a lot of people didnt even recieve the code until an HOUR into the pre-sale 🗿 i think mine also came late in my email, i ended up seeing the code on twt and got tickets Edit: I do in fact still have the email LOL
I don't like crunchy roll, but I bought my tickets and I'm still going with my friends, I'm not letting this get in the way of our fun. But it hurts knowing it could be so much better.
I wouldn't give up on vocaloid concerts so soon, there are amazing ones in japan, plus, other miku expo concerts have been MUCH better, its mostly crunchyrolls fault 😞
I had tickets for MikuExpo 2020. I'm so sad that I missed out, and wasn't able to get tickets for this time. I feel like I missed out on having a TRUE Miku experience.
I just hope it'll be fine by the time it comes to my state. I'm going with my mom and we spent ALOT of money, not even for vip, for regular admission. I'm talking over $1000. It's insane.
They literally could have gotten some Vocaloid cosplays and hired some local dancers and it would have been a better show than the false advertisement 2D screen garbage they put on. Screw Crunchyroll. Just cancelled my subscription. We literally can't have anything nice without corporate greed ruining it.
me and my mum got miku expo tickets for london and as much as i hate that its an LED screen im not to mad its still gonna be as amazing thing to see (and i might be able to get rin merch cuz i dont got much) it will be the 2nd vocaloid concert ive seen (including vocafest which just goes to conventions in the UK) and im sure it will be as memorable as the first ^^
Uh oh, I went to the Amsterdam show in 2020 and it looked fine! The VIP package Id gotten at the time was a big letdown (no included merch except a sticker, fabric flag(?) a special lanyard and a tote bag.) Now the VIP ticket price has gone up almost a 3rd of the original price so I definitely got a normal ticket for this time expecting the same experience... Now I am very very afraid, and feel like my 66 euros got eaten by a shitty vending machine. I really really hope they fix this before coming overseas here in October..
Oh yeah we bought tickets for that, yeah my buddy told me what happened about the first show and since it's my first time attending this, I really have 0 expectation of being awed by this. If I don't get impressed, I'll probably never buy a ticket again, if it does, they might get a repeat customer. It's simple as that.
Miku has never been a hologram. Miku's performance is pre-rendered 3d animation. Usually rear projected onto a translucent screen but not always. Some other events (Miku Fes 24) have used LED screens and some events like Magical Mirai use both. Once she was projected onto a screen of water sprayed into the air at night. If you go to wikipedia and look up hologram, there is even a listing for Miku under the category of things mistakenly identified as holograms. The real problem isn't the screen so much as the low budget stage setup around it. Look at the lavish setting for MikuPa 24 at the Budokan for how it should be done.
the light setup is SO COOL it would look insane with the glass screen! its so unfortunate how companies are getting away with charging more and squeezing out the bare minimum to make as much profit as possible. it makes me sad
I went to the very first show in Vancouver after an impulse purchase that same day when finding out that it was happening here, I’ll be totally honest about my experience. Being a miku fan for so long and seeing her hologram shows online, my expectations were pretty high as I had never been to a concert of hers before. I bought two tickets for $77 total for me and my friend which was a great deal to me, and we arrived at the venue. Honestly, seeing so many Miku fans lined up and in cosplay was exciting enough since I knew I’d be in a venue with hundreds of other people who share the same love for her as me! Just seeing and being around all those fans was awesome enough for me. When getting through security, it was honestly a gamble. Although they seemed to have many restrictions online such as no snacks, bag searches, and no foreign light sticks, some were lucky enough to get away with those things through specific guards. My friend was unlucky and had their snacks confiscated, but (unaware of these rules at the time) I proudly went through with my foreign light stick and bag unsearched which, in hindsight, is very unsafe of them. I was having a good experience so far, but my friend was not. When getting in our seats, I noticed the large TV and thought they would be doing just some fun welcomings with the TV, but I did not think that the entire show would be on that TV. I honestly thought they were trying to downplay her as a joke, then she’d be a hologram later in the show. Of course, that never happened, and it’s wild that I even expected that to happen. Still, after the slight disappointment of the TV, my energy remained high and I valued the entire experience as a whole more than anything. Hearing the live band and my favourite songs play loudly on the speakers with me and tons of other people booping their sticks to the beat was amazing, and it was an experience i’d never give up for anything.. other than maybe a real hologram concert lmao. Although I was ecstatic throughout the entire performance, I did notice a large majority of the crowd held some clear disappointment from the experience which I completely understand. It was only so enjoyable to me because I was surrounded by the community and I was simply happy to be hearing my songs played live-ish. But for people who paid 200+ for their tickets to watch tv, I can certainly understand why they weren’t as into it as I was. I do wish they made her a bit larger on the TV, since I was sitting higher in the venue and it was a tad difficult to see her, but the quality was way nicer than the videos show! Overall I found the experience great, even if merch sold out hours before the show even began, and even if Miku wasn’t a hologram as shown before. The false advertising is definitely not okay, but I still loved that night more than anything!
I worked the show in Orlando last night. I was disappointed with the LED screen but the last time I saw her was when she opened for Lady Gaga in 2014. I don't care how bad it was set up on the stage even though you could tell it wasn't a hologram, I loved every moment of it, all of her friends performed which I've never seen before and the atmosphere was awesome. Would definitely go back again next time.
I went to the show in Vancouver... It was very disappointing since it was the first Vocaloid concert I was attending in person. We were told to purchase official light sticks since third-party LED sticks would interfere with the projections. When this was announced, most fans were expecting the usual projections used in 90% of the Vocaloid concerts, so obviously when that wasn't the case, many of us hardcore fans were let down. Personally, I wouldn't have minded the LED screen as long as it was blended into the stage properly(similar to the set in mikufes24) instead of being slapped in the middle of the stage with lights blasting the sides and behind it. The setlist was also quite underwhelming. I understand that many fans are tired of hearing the classics all the time, but since this was the 10th Anniversary I was expecting a lot more of the classic songs a lot of fans grew up listening to. The lack of stock in merch, communication, poor stage quality, and overall organization made the event feel very lazy and a "fundraiser" for future Miku events due to how poor the quality was(Another example of poor quality/laziness is the fact that Miku's band isn't with her, instead it's local talent from NA which would have been fine and really cool, but if they're already cutting so many costs, why don't we have the usual JP band). With all that being said, if you do have tickets, I wouldn't sell them. The event was still fun to attend, especially if you are going with some of your Vocaloid besties. Wishing you all the best!!
I've heard a ton of stories in recent years about how difficult/expensive it is for artists to tour in a post-pandemic/lockdown era (to the point of canceling legs of tours or canceling tours completely). My inclination is to think that the people behind this particular tour may have simply seen the LED screen as a more cost-effective option.
I bought tickets for the Toronto show, the tickets got bought out by scalpers almost immediately so by the time i went to buy mine they were 300 for a regular admission. I originally got tickets for their North America tour in 2020, but that got canceled due to covid, so i jumped on the opportunity to go to this one. Miku expo has been going on for a while, they've had a decent track record from what i could tell, and past shows have had the glass screen holograms, so why they cut back and just used the crappy led screen was probably in some part because of crunchyroll. I'm hoping since Toronto is one of the last spots on the tour that they'll get their shit together by then, cuz i dont want my first and probably only chance to go to a miku concert to be ruined by shitty corporation practices.
I had gone to Miku Expo back in 2018 the last one before covid hit that was in person at a venue. That was a great and fun day with friends and not to mentioned I didn't pay an arm and leg considering the D.C. location. price for general admission was $50. I did still attend the VR and online ver. the next few years and they were cool free online concert but didn't feel the same with the cool clear glass screen hologram feel like she was there. Now she's back to her roots and now I hear all these bad things. i take a look and try to see prices of tickets they are $200 for VIP from the day of this comment but I had checked 2 weeks prior and they were $500 dollars for just the general admission not even the VIP. NOTE that its the same venue I had last gone back in 2018 for again $50. This Crunchyroll inflation price is making me not wanna go and save that money and take a trip to Japan and go to a Magical Mirai concert. I really hope this is fixed cause man this mad me a bit upset for people who have paid and didn't enjoy the experience (tho I'm sure many were their first time and had blast happy for them) but my thing is also this event used to come around every 2 years and after the 6 year haitus we get this and a hefty upcharge for entrance.
i bought tickets for london in october and im so nervous about it (in a negative way) that my stomach hurts when i think about it (ive dreamt about going to a miku concert for 10 years)
I’ve wanted to see Miku in concert for a very long time, it’s a good thing I didn’t waste my time and money on this let down, hopefully in the future when she comes to Colorado they won’t pull this crap.
All they needed to do was have the LED screen blend into the stage. They basically set a TV down front and center and said good enough. At least try to hide the edges with black curtains or something. The main gimmick of the Miku concerts is the illusion that she is actually there. Miku is the star of the show, and the stage needs to be built for her.
literally that
Much like they did for NicoNico 2022 where they had a giant screen, but made a spectacle of it and went all out.
@@VoicespiderThey can do holograms for Tupac, but not for Miku
Miku Expo is like my dream and honestly if this continues like this I will feel like I missed my chance to go to a real Miku Expo
real
This is not a tv, its huge. As you can see from the videos, projection concerts also have a lot of flaws like reflections, projector glare, low brightness and contrast and generally lower resolution images.
@@meta0269cope
I fully and whole heartly agree with you. I dream of being able to go see miku and to see that they have used this option instead of how its supposed to be as a hologram. Its truly ruined the chance. I can do this at home on my tv. Imagine if youtube "continue watching?" came up i would DIE.
@@shelbyhood9064 you can't do anything close to this at home

If that happens to me I’ll genuinely chargeback the money because that is UTTER bullshit
Crunchyroll hosting an expo? What could go wrong? (many things went wrong)
Honestly reminds me of when Crunchyroll hosted an expo here in Australia;; (another mess)
That was my immediate thought when I heard that Crunchyroll was part of the Miku Expo. So sad that Madman Anime Expo is just gone now.

@@stingray2393 ikr!? i never heard of it! 😭
Didn't also in the Japanese concerts they had their traditional setup. But almost everywhere else had that LED display?
And people who bought the tickets stated Crunchyroll prohibited goers from taking their own glowsticks to the show, and only the ones sold at the expo would be allowed because, according to them, "otherwise it would interfere with the HOLOGRAMS."
Crunchyroll willingly LIED to the public about the event being made with holograms to sell the pitiful amount of 95 glowsticks they had!
@@TwilightWolf032 nine likes? Here let me comment back and give you a tenth...this needs to be seen
PDX sold out of tickets immediately so i had to buy resold tickets from scalpers, and then TWO DAYS before the concert i get a message from the site the seller used saying there was an issue and that i would be issued new tickets. never got them. i had to be written into the concert and given a seat off to the very right of the main seating. all to see an LED screen that looked exactly like i was watching the youtube version of miku expo. they used the same sparkle transitions when the characters phased out and everything. such a damn mess. i was expecting holograms too so, to say i cried was an understatement
it probably didn't help that Crunchyroll had a code where you could buy tickets early but the code was literally something like crunchyrollmiku and anyone could use it subscribed to Crunchyroll premium or not....so if you didn't know about that code it was really easy to miss tickets
update: got a refund, so at least this mess of a show was free?
This is the We have miku at home type of concert
3:01 She’s not a VTuber, She’s actually a VOCALOID producer. Which means they make music with Miku and friends.
She's been a vtuber too actually ! But not only and it's not their main activity
Finally somebody who knows her too! I was confused when she got referred as vtuber, or I guess it feels like "since when rishie becomes a vtuber?"
I went to the Vancouver show and have been following this since i went on the bus back home. Just some other things to note:
Idk to me it's just.... stupid
I hope Dallas’s expo isn’t this bad we bought seats
Crunchyroll ruins everything
And it's not only limited to anime or games, it breached concert events like this one
Not surprised if people will stop paying their hard earned money just for subscriptions or games they launched, and the company will end up with financial collapse, as well close their doors.
Crunchyroll is the reason we humans made the word disappointment and dissatisfaction

2017 Miku Expo in Malaysia were also good too, it baffles me Crunchyroll fucked it up
@@Ephra_wangai This is the first I've heard of the whole no Glowsticks coz it might "interfere with the Hologram" and it reeks of utter BS.

I've always figured that I'd be such a big miku fan but things just weren't right and now it seems like it never will be
About the glow sticks, or "Penlights", those who arent familiar with the Miku concerts might think that you can just buy a dollar store penlight for cheap...NO...you can't
Normal penlights interfere with the holographic technology, so Crypton ALWAYS sells custom penlights as a way to circumvent this issue and ban any other pen light, which was still enforced at this concert as well
So many were also upset that they not only spent money on a VERY expensive penlight designed for holograms, ON TOP of spending $100-200 on tickets, only to be greeted with a NON-hologram concert...so yeah ppl have a right to be upset 😑
2009: Hologram
2024: LED Screen
It’s evolving.
Just backwards⏪
The trick to that is that Crypton's reputation has been pretty damn stellar. Crunchyroll has now killed that.
Me as hell. I waited 4 years to watch a tv screen on a stage???? Crunchyroll can die in a hole for real.
Man I didn't even know crunchyroll was involved until the TV stuff 😔
I was at the recent Portland concert, it was utterly disappointing to see an LED screen, while I paid $200+ for GA tickets, (thanks ticketmaster) plus another $1000 for international flights and hotel.
I asked some other people who were also there at the time, and they were sad as well, but the concert itself was very fun, meeting the people and singing along to the songs.
NOT WORTH $200 though. BRING BACK THE HOLOGRAM
also another speculation, Crunchyroll also hosted another *world tour* for Ado, another popular J-Pop artist under UMG.

(which is around $600+ these days)
the only reason people hate this LED screen is because it's just a black box. it's not a glass screen, it's not transparent.
all the illusion of it being a "real hologram" (which it isn't, holograms aren't consumer yet) is lost because the producers of the concert didn't care about the quality or reason it even is a concert to begin with (they need to watch the 2009 concerts lol)
I'm probably not going this year as i went to the dallas Miku Expo in 2018, but i would be extremely disappointed if they didnt have the hologram here in DFW given the company that makes the projectors is here;;;
My husband actually worked in the DLP projector department at the time so it was really interesting for him as well even though he wasnt the biggest vocaloid fan.
Also for the concert in Brussels we couldn't even pick a seat! It was either VIP or normal tickets :/
Sincerely hoping they dont do smth like that here where the venue holds over 12,000 but yk
yea dude if they pull this here i am gone be ultra pissed
You should sell the tickets if you have them it's all downhill with cruncyroll added in.
Update, found it is gonna be a screen in Europe too. Still gonna go and enjoy myself but I'm definitely disappointed
This shit is so sadddd, wish I could refund my tickets or be in a class action lawsuit
People have been doing chargebacks to their card companies over this - might be worth finding out if you can do that
The rare event where vtuber concerts look better then Miku concerts
i'm not happy about the led screen because it looks janky in videos. at the same time i'd be happy just to be hanging out with vocaloid fans and celebrating music i've loved since i was a kid. would i adore having the original setup back because it looks more immersive to me? absolutely. would i appreciate being told before hand 'this is the setup we have going' so i'm not shocked? a hundred percent. its not a dealbreaker it just looks really funky if you're not looking straight on from the pit. its like they forgot people were gonna be sitting on the sides.
5:23 oh no Even didnt know what happened to the Canadian Miku standees?
i know they where pissed pun intended but what happend to them ?
I posted a Miku Expo vlog because you inspired me!🤘🏼
9:25 - This is a late add on, but went to the Phoenix show, there was only one box of 95 lightsticks as well too.
Just have Cover do the miku event xD
I’ve loved miku since early 2000s and never gotten to go since my family is not very well off and I hope the trendhoppers and big brands don’t ruin the thing that kept me from ending it all
I went to a vocaloid concert back in like 2012 or so. It was at Anime Expo. They had the fancy screens and what not. It was awesome. Granted I was snuck in line with the help of some friends (I still dont understand how I managed to get in without a ticket) and saw the show for free but even back then there was a ton of care at producing these shows. Its a shame the quality and care is disappearing.
4:21
literally the led screen is just the videos that i used to watch for dance tutorials, like..
So, if this is what's happening with Miku Expo, I guess the only way to go is Magical Mirai. Which is only in Osaka and Tokyo... Time to start saving for plane tickets, I guess.
(Well, also MikuFes, but that's also only in Japan, so the point still stands).
*and Fukuoka
There wouldn't be any issues right? I'm planning to get a ticket😅
yeah i’m sad now. i went in 2018 to mikunopolis and it was great
was there anyone ever in history who has ever complained about the "quality of the projection?" most ppl don't even know it's a projection they think its a hologram. everyone knows she's not real that's like, her whole appeal. we have tv's??
Unfortunately makes me doubt the show
5$ tickets...ouch!!!! Crunchyroll hasn't bin doing well PR wise in a while. Its a bunner they are getting so big.
San Jose was last night 3/3 on the TVs, this is not an isolated venue problem
Another note on the presale code: a lot of people didnt even recieve the code until an HOUR into the pre-sale 🗿 i think mine also came late in my email, i ended up seeing the code on twt and got tickets
Edit: I do in fact still have the email LOL
They used an amoled screen for miku expo24. I think the March was the bigger issue. Like the lightsticks, they had 90 for LA
Oh dang it’s Evan
Everyone who bought a ticket can sue for false advertising since the glass screen was part of the advertising.
The idea that Miku was there at the big bag is hilarious, I now have adopted this into my beliefs.
It is three in the morning and now I'm horrified at what could happen to me next week!
a screen i bet
it’s their tenth anniversary, could’ve been a big bang bruh
I don't like crunchy roll, but I bought my tickets and I'm still going with my friends, I'm not letting this get in the way of our fun. But it hurts knowing it could be so much better.
It’s the same here for me
Hatsune Roomba.
NOOOO one of the biggest reasons I wanted to go to a Miku Expo was because they’re holograms :( hoping they change it back like they did once before
I got two VIP tickets…….. I’m so upset, this is going to be my first and last Hatsune Miku concert.
Doesn’t seem like you are missing anything this time with how shit Crunchyroll are making it.
@@crimsonsonic2 off topic but i just noticed your pfp, eternal sakura rep ^^
@@user-gj3fp4pg2m Sakurako is the best character in Magia record 100%
I just hope it'll be fine by the time it comes to my state. I'm going with my mom and we spent ALOT of money, not even for vip, for regular admission. I'm talking over $1000. It's insane.
im supper exited its in 2 days im going with my friend and its gonna be amazingly fun even thos its a led screen
idc
They literally could have gotten some Vocaloid cosplays and hired some local dancers and it would have been a better show than the false advertisement 2D screen garbage they put on. Screw Crunchyroll. Just cancelled my subscription. We literally can't have anything nice without corporate greed ruining it.
me and my mum got miku expo tickets for london and as much as i hate that its an LED screen im not to mad its still gonna be as amazing thing to see (and i might be able to get rin merch cuz i dont got much) it will be the 2nd vocaloid concert ive seen (including vocafest which just goes to conventions in the UK) and im sure it will be as memorable as the first ^^
My first concert and THIS is what they do to me?
Uh oh, I went to the Amsterdam show in 2020 and it looked fine! The VIP package Id gotten at the time was a big letdown (no included merch except a sticker, fabric flag(?) a special lanyard and a tote bag.) Now the VIP ticket price has gone up almost a 3rd of the original price so I definitely got a normal ticket for this time expecting the same experience...
Now I am very very afraid, and feel like my 66 euros got eaten by a shitty vending machine.
I really really hope they fix this before coming overseas here in October..
my first one and its like this. but itll be on the 24 i hope it changes :
Absolutely! Not just unfortunate it’s cynical exploitation of fans and daylight robbery of their hard earned cash. 😱
There was even a magenta pixel square on the screen at some point
Wishing you all the best!!
it happened at coachella too
I wonder if they did this same thing at Coachella because HM was on the bill to be playing this year
I've heard a ton of stories in recent years about how difficult/expensive it is for artists to tour in a post-pandemic/lockdown era (to the point of canceling legs of tours or canceling tours completely). My inclination is to think that the people behind this particular tour may have simply seen the LED screen as a more cost-effective option.
I was going to see my first miku concert, i was so excited..... in 2020. Ya it was canceled, i haven't had a chance, who knows if i ever will
I bought tickets for the Toronto show, the tickets got bought out by scalpers almost immediately so by the time i went to buy mine they were 300 for a regular admission.
I was there at the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium and can confirm that this was not an LED screen.
Some of Lana del Rey's performances were shown as holograms on stage haha.
In 2015 I said that SEGA's models at Magical Mirai were trash. I was there, at Budokan, twice. It's 9 years later and they are still the same lol :D
