This is a very interesting and inspiring demonstration. Freeform seems like it would be easy, but in reality I feel that you need a lot of experience and knowledge of stitches in order to do it correctly.
This reminds me of my hippie years, I used to have a vest just like that, I wore it over a gypsy skirt. I have a free thinking 8 year old granddaughter that I know will love a vest made in this manner. And what a great way to use up all that scarp yarn, not to mention all the different stitches we will be learning. This is a very young at heart method of crocheting. I LOVE IT.❤️❤️ greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
I made a blanket using all different acrylic yarn scraps; and different stitches. In the style of “log cabin” .... kind of! I call it the “ugly blanket” but everyone likes it ! It also gets added to a little bit each year, so it’s not quite the “lap blanket” it started out as 😂 kiitos videosta! Toivon, että sinulla on mukavaa päivä!
I’m so happy to see this. I’ve been crocheting for decades but still don’t feel confident enough to do anything without a pattern. I feel free to move out of my comfort zone now. Thank you.
Could work with children if they know to crochet very well. This takes quite a lot of ability as you need to work everything out yourself as you go. But great for using one's own imagination without patterns to restrict 💗
I am so thrilled that you have this new video in free form. You are such a wonderful teacher, so precise and calm. I’m learning free form and can’t wait to learn from you!
This is so perfect for someone like me who gets bored with super long same stitch projects. So FUN! THANK YOU for taking the time to explain how to do this. ♡
Thank you for sharing your wisdom. This is a great video and you're a wonderful teacher! Your work is beautiful. I would love to see videos of knitting and crochet mixed together! I wouldn't know where to start lol
I love this ♥️ This is one of the kinds of crochet forms that I created my name from - Hart of Crochet - it combines the heart (love)and art of crochet. There are so many things you can do with free form . Thank you for the inspiration and showing us the Hart of Crochet 💜💜🥰
That's a great way to come up with a name! 💜 Yes, there is no end to what can be done with freeform when you combine all sorts of interesting yarns and techniques!
Love this thankyou can't wait to have a go ,I know as a new crocheter many years ago I was just playing round with basic stitches and I managed to make a poncho my granddaughter I had no pattern, but it worked out ok ,as some one now who is partially sighted following patterns is hard for me ,so this appeals very much again thankyou xx
Hi Tuula, you always do amazing work, this freeform looks beautiful and colourful. I am thinking of doing freeform again so this came at the right time. Much love from Ann ❤
WOW‼️ ABSOLUTLY BEAUTIFUL‼️ I am a devoted fan of yours and your videos. I am also a big fan of Free Form Crochet. Now days that is what I enjoy, and what I do most of the time. 💗
Just tell them that in lots of countries around the world people crochet like this. In Scandinavian countries almost everyone because this is what is taught at schools to all children!
I started doing this years ago when I saw it at a craft show I was at. I had no plan in mind other than I wanted to see if I could do it and then I put it aside. It's still somewhere deep in my cupboard. I must get it out and maybe turn it into a cushion cover also. Great idea. You have given me some fresh ideas and a little more direction as to new stitches and how best to attach them. Thanks Tuula.
Love the free form as I would do a rectangle and then do kind of circle around and then give up, I had not idea that there was a free form crochet. I just love the way you crochet, Thank you so much Tuula.
As other Commenters said -- I always learn something from you. I noticed you make the V Stitch differently than I do. I want to link to your video and watch more closely.
This is creative crochet and efficient use of yarn. Even this old Granny learned something very important from this video: Always do your bobbles on the wrong side of your work! Getting them to look good has always been a big fight for me, because the work always has to look neat. Maybe I remember this on the future 🤞 Thanks Tuula 🌹
That's great! I also have 2 separate videos about bobble stitches, one with one colour and the other multicolour ruclips.net/video/INN-gMZfs44/видео.html ruclips.net/video/yMh8V7hO2lA/видео.html
It looks really fun and challenging. There is an afghan I've seen where every row is a different stitch in different bright colors. I want to try one of those. I'm sure I'd learn a lot by doing it.
Wow. This is amazing and I love all the colors. I wish I could just relax and TRY it ! My mind is not creative, unlike my Mother who had an ingenuity brain. I can make beautiful things BUT I Need a pattern. TFS
Man, that would do my head in 😂. I need to have a definite project. I could probably change colours within a project, but random stitches aaarrrhhh... No way 😂
It is amazing what you can do when you just start! 💗 I'm just planning my publishing schedule and many people have asked for freeform idas so I'll make another one soon. But definitely no instructions, just ideas!
this is beautiful and has given me lots of ideas! but i dont have instagram so i will not be able to see the finished product unfortunately :( i really wanted to!!!
How cool, Tuula! You mentioned early on in the vid that you often combine knit and crochet...I'm assuming that's also freeform? I'd LOVE to see a video using that technique!! Thanks for all you do.
Thank you! Combining knitting and crochet can be freeform but not necessarily. I would combine for example making a hat mainly crochet but knitting the ribbing, or making crochet borders to knitted items. Also on my latest video, at the very start, I'm showing how I made the poncho I'm wearing, it is half knitted, half crocheted ruclips.net/video/A-lbRMmapJA/видео.html In this 10-year-old blog post I'm showing some past makes that are mixed crochet and knitting freeform purplecrafts.blogspot.com/2013/12/freeform-scarf.html
I have done quite a bit of knitting freeform and mixed crochet and knitting but so far no video. You can see some photos of my freeform knits in my blog www.ristiin-rastiin.fi/search/label/Freeform The texts are in Finnish but there are many pictures!
So basically if I'm understanding I just need to make sure the project lays flat by making sure to use the right amount of stitches/chains so the work doesn't pucker up
I looked for this pattern finished at your Instagram publications but couldn´t find it, there are so many!! Could you share a photo with it? I´m from Argentina, sorry for my bad enghish.
I love this video. You are very creative. You mentioned "surface crochet" in the video. Do you have any videos/tutorials on surface crocheting? I have seen other creators doing graphgans, i am wondering how to surface crochet a character like Super Mario. Would it be easier to surface crochet or do the graphgan?
Thank you! I have surface as a small part of many projects but not a video that concentrates on the alone. Yes, you could many shape or character using one of the many types of surface crochet. The kind I use most is doing slip stitches so they look like a chain, having the yarn and one hand under the work while working.

This is a very interesting and inspiring demonstration. Freeform seems like it would be easy, but in reality I feel that you need a lot of experience and knowledge of stitches in order to do it correctly.
You are right, you need to understand how different stitches work and how to vary stitch anounts so your work stays flat.
This reminds me of my hippie years, I used to have a vest just like that, I wore it over a gypsy skirt. Thank you, so glad you liked this! I can imagine this as ideal for hippy style! Make one for your granddaughter, she will love it 💜
Cool! I would love to see more videos on Freeform crochet!
It has been on my list for a long time, just haven't got yo it yet! Hopefully soon!

Kiitos samoin! Log cabin style works great with freeform!
I love it! It’s like yarn doodling. I can’t wait to try it. Thank you!
Great, trust you will enjoy it!
Wow, I never thought of this. Freeform, wow 🌷
Try it! 💙
Oh wow! it is like painting with threads 🥰
Yes, that's what it really is! 😊
I LOVE IT! It reminds me of crazy quilting which I learned to do about 40 years ago.
Thank you! Yes, the same idea!
I’m so happy to see this. I’ve been crocheting for decades but still don’t feel confident enough to do anything without a pattern. I feel free to move out of my comfort zone now. Thank you.
Wonderful!
This is great for entertaining children and making them expose their creativity while creating patterns!
Children? It's quite hard crocheting like this, It needs lot of experience, l don't think it's for children, but for very skilled crocheter 😉
Could work with children if they know to crochet very well. This takes quite a lot of ability as you need to work everything out yourself as you go. But great for using one's own imagination without patterns to restrict 💗

Great to hear, have a go!
I like your technique for extended double crochet with green color. You're very expert in crochet. Thank you
Thank you! 😊 Yes, that technique is useful! I have been crocheting for over 50 years!
I am so thrilled that you have this new video in free form. You are such a wonderful teacher, so precise and calm. I’m learning free form and can’t wait to learn from you!
Thank you so much! Trust you enjoy freeform!
This is so perfect for someone like me who gets bored with super long same stitch projects. So FUN! THANK YOU for taking the time to explain how to do this. ♡
Great, happy to hear that it is something you will like to do! ❤
This is adorable, like a scrapbook of stitches and techniques in one piece.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom. This is a great video and you're a wonderful teacher! Your work is beautiful. I would love to see videos of knitting and crochet mixed together! I wouldn't know where to start lol
Thank you so much! Showing crochet and knitting mixed is something I have planned to do, just haven't had time yet! Hopefully in the new year!
Beautiful work.

That's good to hear! 😊 Yes, there are 2 ways of making the V-stitch, I by far prefer this way.
I love this. It’s a clever and beautiful way to create a piece and use up my scrap yarn. Thank you for sharing.🥰🌈🤍

It looks really fun and challenging. There is an afghan I've seen where every row is a different stitch in different bright colors. I want to try one of those. I'm sure I'd learn a lot by doing it.
That would be lovely, similar to what I have been planning. Takes a lot of work to get the stitches so that different rows stay the same width.
wery interesting have never seen this before 😊ofcourse i will try this 😉thanks

what’s the stitch with the orange yarn called!
I don't think it has any special name, they are loops of chaining 3 attached in the loop of the previous row.

It looks beautiful, but I'm afraid I take after my Mummu -- everything has to be even and measured and use a pattern.
You could try to do it differently, you might enjoy it! 😊
You never know, maybe someday!!!
