I’m lukewarm on the iPad mini, but for different reasons. I got it to supplement my iPad Pro in times when portability is useful. I find it gets hot faster than my iPad Pro and the typing experience is miserable. I do prefer Swype keyboards, so i use the tiny version instead of the full keyboard. The screen is fine and I don’t go out of my way to see jelly scrolling, so it’s a non-issue. The mini is a good tablet, but I prefer using the Pro even when the mini is more warranted, like reading in bed or when leaving the house. Granted for most people it isn’t one or the other. It would be their only iPad, so my case is a bit different.
I honestly don’t understand the UI complaints, I’m barely ever looking at my Home Screen, I’m using an app, swiping up to access the app bar, swiping to the side to get another app or bringing one over in Slide Over etc.
I love my iPad Mini 6 - it’s the perfect size for casual use. I’ve picked up reading Manga/Manhwa/Manhua online now and it’s the prefect size. Interestingly when you read that kind of stuff in a web browser the RAM can fill up quite quickly and makes the iPad start acting strangely. My workaround is there are certain ‘battery’ management apps that can flush the RAM (which is a lot quicker then restarting the iPad). But otherwise it’s really convenient to watch videos, read books (especially PDFs for education purposes) and just browse the web. Going from an OLED iPhone is that you notice it doesn’t have deep blacks, but the colours are really good so that issue quickly disappears as you immerse yourself in content :)
People say the mini is niche but my first ipad was a mini and the only reason i "upgraded" was to use the newer magnetic apple pencils. Now that theres a mini with a pencil, im incredibly tempted to crossgrade back to a mini. It really is the best size.
I have the 12.9 iPad Pro and that’s exactly how i use it in bed: on my chest. Looks like you have something else that has priority over chest real estate now 😂
How can someone not recommend the iPad Mini? It's the best size for gaming and everything except watching videos (and it's not bad either, just that bigger screens are better for that). The iPad Minis are so easy and light to hold. I love gaming and love the Mini 5 size more than my gorgeous 11" tab size. So I always use the Mini 5 for gaming. My 11" tab is best for movies. The iPad Mini is also my fav iPad lineup and the only ones I'll ever buy.
Used the mini 6 for a week, Ive learned the 11” iPad Pro is the perfect size for me. I wanted to love the mini but just wasn’t for me. I still do hope they scale iPadOS better to the mini
I still don’t understand the quarrel people have with the volume buttons. If it’s in landscape, it’s up or down. If it’s in portrait, it’s left or right. And I always know where they are no matter the orientation because of either my case or where the camera is. Not that hard tbh
I have had an iPad Mini 6 since before I got my MacBook and I actually bought my MacBook specs based on my personal needs and the fact that I can use the iPad as a second screen or just use it as the standalone device it is and control it entirely from my MacBook. I have the 2020 M1 MacBook Pro 13” with the iPad Mini 6 and the portability of the two devices and how seamlessly they work together makes it such a great combo. I don’t do super heavy work on my laptop compared to what a lot of people here probably do but i did buy it based on the fact that I could still play wow on it, and being able to use my ipad as a “second screen” aka actually just using universal control, helps keep my ram free on my MacBook and i can use discord and safari and RUclips all on my ipad and it uses no resources from my MacBook. The iPad Mini 6 isn’t a niche device I think it would fit more peoples needs but we’re used to the idea that bigger is always better, but I don’t think that is the case with the iPad Mini 6.
I still have a Mini 5 from April 2019. This tablet has been moderately used and looks new but after this video and others I’m seriously thinking about upgrading to the iPad mini 6, the larger screen with the smaller bezels among other things are compelling
I’m a med student and the iPad mini is perfect for lab practicals because it fits right in my lab coat and it’s nice to make short concise notes and flash cards for active recall
Literally the perfect device for me. Sold my air 4 for this lil cutie. So much easier to hold and take notes on. Can just Chuck it in my handbag and it doesn’t make a weight difference at all
It’s not the jelly scrolling issue that’s the killer for me: it’s the fact that the screen feels a lot closer to 30-45hZ than 60. Combining that with the jelly scroll, it’s a really hard sell
In all honesty, I’ve never noticed the jelly scrolling. However, this isn’t for someone obsessed with something that small. I use mine as an everyday tool. Take notes, read books. Show graphic design products for clients. It’s really a day to day productive tool.
This jelly scroll is ONLY noticeable if you provoke it. Meaning: when you use the iPad in a normal way you won’t notice it- hardly or at all. In normal usage NO ONE scrolls with full speed alternating in opposite directions.
True. I didn't buy mini for this sole reason. Went for iPad Air. I could notice the difference between their screens. IPad Air is definitely smooth in scrolling.
I agree, I was slightly confused with your initial review, kinda negative to be honest with you. But you have now realised like myself the ipad mini 6 is an awesome ipad, it's the perfect form factor in my opinion, I sold my ipad pro 11 inch as I found it was difficult to use in the hand after 30 minutes plus, I got hand and arm strain. I can use the mini 6 for hours now and it's absolutely fine. I did go to a store before I bought one just incase the jelly scrolling really bothered me, it didn't and it does not bother me at all, I don't even notice it. I have had the mini 6 for 3 weeks and absolutely loving it. I would highly recommend the ipad mini 6.
i'd like to see Apple use the bezels for additional functions, for example additional touch control. maybe put some sort of touch strip on the bezel for volume control, and then other touch strips for the finger print sensor. this would eliminate the need for physical buttons on the sides.
The whole point of the bezels is to have an area that you won't trigger when holding it, if the wanted to they could make the screen bigger and the bezels smaller but they don't want to as it would be harder to hold and use normally
we need mini 5 back to be the budget iPad mini because in Canada it’s way too overpriced over the normal iPad so the mini 5 should be brought as a new iPad maybe at $225 USD or $285 CAD Features that came back in mini 5: +volume buttons at normal place +home button -smaller screen -Apple Pencil 2 support -lost a better camera
You can make the icons larger in settings under Home Screen and dock. I found it made it look a bit better. Also I think some of the gap is to allow you to hold the iPad and not open an app? Just a thought.
Great video as always Gary! Watching from my iPad mini. It has a beautiful display and is a great in between for my phone (12 pro max) and iPad Pro 12.9. Sometimes those displays are too small or too big for what I want to do.
I have to choose between the iPad Air (used the have the first gen. iPad Air years ago) and the iPad mini 6th gen, as a replacement for our ipad mini 2nd gen. I think I would love the bigger screen when I am working on it f.ex. in split mode (but i don't know how often I would even use it to work on it as I usually use my macbook pro 2019 for work) but I love how small and LIGHT the ipad mini is. A very very hard decision... For now love the ipad Mini 2! Use it for reading in bed in the evening (love how light it is), for watching Netflix, Apple+ oder Disney+ in the train when I am out to my way to work and the kids use it for school and to play apps.
Except for video / streaming media consumption, the iPad mini 6 shines in portrait mode especially with iOS apps made for the iPhone, so no more awkward interfaces that work terribly with the magic keyboard, it a simple matter of rotating the screen. And, because of the lack of a physical keyboard I find myself reaching for the Apple Pencil much more than the iPad Pro model I purchased it for. The flip side of course is that there will never be an iPad mini smart or magic keyboard, and I personally wouldn’t mind that option.
I have never used physical volume buttons on iOS devices. Control center is so much easier. Kick stand? Seriously? On iPad mini? UI scaling is the only real issue in my opinion.Glad you finally came around.
I you look at the iPd Pro 12.9, the scaling is roughly the same as the Mini, it also has wide gaps between the bezel and apps whether in landscape or portrait mode. It just doesn't look as wonky on the bigger iPad.
I am so glad I didn’t listen to you at all when I purchased this. It is so much better than my old iPad Air that I had and it’s going to become my go to portable device.
I’ve had mine for less then a week and I’m really enjoying it. My hands are small tho and I don’t love typing on it even with split keyboard. But it’s great for everything else.
Please apple, make splitscreen possible in which both apps can be on top of one another, would be of great help in note taking while watching a video. Currently they work only side by side and that is inefficient
Loving the reviews on the ipad mini 6 since I want to purchase one but waiting to see if it's worth it. I am being convinced that it will be the perfect device for me to study on the go, record and edit my RUclips videos among other things. Perfect size to fit in my small bag along with my Kobo Libra H20!
I love you dad, can't wait for your mbp video, still deciding to upgrade from rnr m1 air but m1 air is still perfect for me 😁 I'll prob upgrade to m2 air next spring
I wanna see them release an iPad mini in a similar class to the $329 full sized iPad ninth gen with the same shape as the fifth gen mini. Maybe dub it the iPad mini SE, also running on the A13 as the iPad 9. Yes I do realize the iPad mini fifth gen does still exist from third party retailers, but it’d be nice to have the constant “SE” edition every year they release the next gen. I can honestly foresee the baseline $329 iPad starting to take on that name as the iPad Airs just get better and better.
My mini just replaced my Kindle, drawing tablet, sketchbook, diary notebook, my 7 year old tablet for Netflix and my Windows PC that I was using to learn how to draw and code in Python... The mini is not so mini when it comes to what it can do... I should do a review...
Just a tip I’ve found for the the volume button confusion. If you think of the sound in a horizontal mode greater and lesser. The confusion disappears 😉
I wonder why apple didn’t just make a smaller pencil to fix the volume button issue, is it really full of tech inside the whole length of the Apple Pencil?
Did you have to adjust to the smaller size of the icon text? In the Apple store I was surprised the text scaling in Settings didn't modify that text size.
Even though I have the new iPad Pro 11”, I was still thinking of getting the iPad mini! I just thought it may be just the right size and weight to carry in my handbag! Anyone have an opinion? Oh and what is the case you have on your mini please?
I have the iPad Pro 11” and still got the mini. It is perfect for on the go which is why I decided to get one. It fits in your handbag perfectly an does not weigh it down. I have changed so many bags, even switched to small backpacks to accommodate my 11” and the added weight just made it too much to carry around all day. Weight wise, it’s like it not even there. Oh, he has the Apple Smart Folio.
Great re-review. I watched your first one and groaned because I wanted to update from my iPad Mini 2018. Waited, but finally ordered mine today. I REALLY MISSED MY iPad MINI. I have an iPad Air 12.9 but it simply, IMO, isn't portable enough for me. Thanks for the update.
Then it would be an iPad mini pro. Which would cost 800+. Lol. If you want brighter screen and 120hz you need to buy an iPad pro 11. They aren't going to reinvent the wheel for someone that won't even spend a few more bucks on a product that's already available.
@@jasonleetaiwan Small and cheap. That's why the mini exists. They won't do 120hz on it for years. The things would cost too much then no one will buy them. Then the same people that demanded it will complain about a price hike. Rinse and repeat
I get that you don't like the volume buttons and if I was used to the iPad placement, I would probably be mad too. But, I don't really care too much because I used to use a kindle fire 7 and the button placement is exactly the same. they also switch variants depending on how you are holding it. but Its totally ok to have an opinion.
I put all thre iPads together in the shop mini, 11 and 12.9 same webpage and the mini ‘s page you had to zoom to read parts of it this needs to be looked at before I would buy. Hopefully Apple can optimise this better

I have a MB air and had an air 4. I found that the air 4 was too big to just carry around, I decided to sell it. I needed something in between my iPhone 13 pro, MacBook screen but each needed to fit for a specific purpose. Content consumption was what I decided on for this buy and my god do I love it, it’s portable, the screen is perfect and just fits its niche, YOU decide that niche. A portable entertainment device - movies, gaming, camera work, it’s not for work work mind you, you’ll find that you might buy all the keyboards etc but you won’t use it. Get a iPad Pro or MB for work flow! I 100 percent recommended it! Best tablet yet. It’s super powerful. Ask any questions below :) I even did steam link on this letting me play pc games and Xbox ultimate streamed games!

And I always know where they are no matter the orientation because of either my case or where the camera is. Not that hard tbh
I always love your off-script side comments to your script. Thanks for giving a longer 1 month review!
I wanna get the iPad 9th gen for my birthday and I think it is the best budget iPad this year so I think for me it’s the best option
Agreed, this form factor could be new standard for true tablet size since people often use the bigger size one as notebook replacement.
Use the split keyboard option. It helps type easier!
Watching this video on my Mini 6 now. 🙃
I still have a Mini 5 from April 2019. This tablet has been moderately used and looks new but after this video and others I’m seriously thinking about upgrading to the iPad mini 6, the larger screen with the smaller bezels among other things are compelling
if u owned a mini 5 for two and a half years and only used it moderately, dont upgrade to the mini 6
Turn on the accessibility feature and control volume with your voice
I’m a med student and the iPad mini is perfect for lab practicals because it fits right in my lab coat and it’s nice to make short concise notes and flash cards for active recall
I just got mine 2 days ago and really love it.👍
Literally the perfect device for me. Sold my air 4 for this lil cutie. So much easier to hold and take notes on. Can just Chuck it in my handbag and it doesn’t make a weight difference at all
Same here
It’s not the jelly scrolling issue that’s the killer for me: it’s the fact that the screen feels a lot closer to 30-45hZ than 60.
I agree, screen is poor
The whole point of the bezels is to have an area that you won't trigger when holding it, if the wanted to they could make the screen bigger and the bezels smaller but they don't want to as it would be harder to hold and use normally
we need mini 5 back to be the budget iPad mini because in Canada it’s way too overpriced over the normal iPad so the mini 5 should be brought as a new iPad maybe at $225 USD or $285 CAD
Features that came back in mini 5:
+volume buttons at normal place
+home button
-smaller screen
-Apple Pencil 2 support
-lost a better camera
You can make the icons larger in settings under Home Screen and dock. I found it made it look a bit better. Also I think some of the gap is to allow you to hold the iPad and not open an app? Just a thought.
Thank you, I hadn’t even thought of looking there. Already makes the Home Screen look better.
Awesome review. The music on the background is driving me crazy. At first I thought I was "catching a signal" from out of space
I like this form factor. You can take this Ipad EVERYWERE
Just got mine today and i know its my soulmate ❤️
I you look at the iPd Pro 12.9, the scaling is roughly the same as the Mini, it also has wide gaps between the bezel and apps whether in landscape or portrait mode. It just doesn't look as wonky on the bigger iPad.
I am so glad I didn’t listen to you at all when I purchased this. It is so much better than my old iPad Air that I had and it’s going to become my go to portable device.
I’ve had mine for less then a week and I’m really enjoying it. My hands are small tho and I don’t love typing on it even with split keyboard. But it’s great for everything else.
I love looking at things that I can’t afford
Hopefully your able to buy one in the future.
Lol I'm waiting for Black Friday to buy tons of techs and this including. It's torture ngl
Please apple, make splitscreen possible in which both apps can be on top of one another, would be of great help in note taking while watching a video. Currently they work only side by side and that is inefficient
Yes! This is what I’ve been wanting too, keep hoping with every update 😬
You could use Picture in Picture for that.
@@BM-pg6sg is that any app or something, because i have tried everything but it doesnt work?
Loving the reviews on the ipad mini 6 since I want to purchase one but waiting to see if it's worth it. I am being convinced that it will be the perfect device for me to study on the go, record and edit my RUclips videos among other things. Perfect size to fit in my small bag along with my Kobo Libra H20!
I have used my iPad mini every day for 4 years now. It is the best tablet I have ever owned bar none.
Can you please do a video editing test with the iPhones !? Come on Gary I have been asking these for days
Been using mine for sports watching and I love it. If I’m outside bbqing or at work it great.
Would you recommend it for school? like for reading and note taking? Also for extra monitor while using a laptop?
something wrong with the auto subs, the language is detected as portuguese, the English displayed doesn't make any sense 😅 Love your videos!
About to pull the trigger to replace my mini 5. I should have waited and I haven’t even had it a year yet but I really want the 6.
You gave me more reasons to buy one. Thanks for the video
And luckily it has that cool camera follow function so thats a plus for Apple
I love you dad, can't wait for your mbp video, still deciding to upgrade from rnr m1 air but m1 air is still perfect for me 😁 I'll prob upgrade to m2 air next spring
I'm getting this on Dec so excited😍
Same!!!!
Hey there Everyday Dad,
What case are you using and where can I purchase?
I appreciate your thoughts on the device. Thanks for sharing. Blessings on your day.
Thanks for “no benchmarks”!
Nice sound. What mic are you using?
"The change was within me all along" LOL
What's the case that you are using? I am keen on getting the same.
Will purchase ipad Mini 6 soon 😊😊
My mini just replaced my Kindle, drawing tablet, sketchbook, diary notebook, my 7 year old tablet for Netflix and my Windows PC that I was using to learn how to draw and code in Python...
The mini is not so mini when it comes to what it can do... I should do a review...
Is it good for taking notes?
Just a tip I’ve found for the the volume button confusion. If you think of the sound in a horizontal mode greater and lesser. The confusion disappears 😉
i really think Apple needs to fix that scaling issue. it just doesn't make any sense to me.
I wonder why apple didn’t just make a smaller pencil to fix the volume button issue, is it really full of tech inside the whole length of the Apple Pencil?
Just bought one👍🏻
What’s the case you’re using?
Did you have to adjust to the smaller size of the icon text? In the Apple store I was surprised the text scaling in Settings didn't modify that text size.
I never use the volume buttons tbh I always use the pull down menu iPad Pro 11 2020 user
@@angellynette8258 thankyou you answered my question perfectly!!! lol just what i wanted to hear !!!
I’ve had mine a month. I’d say if the screen had a few extra hundred nits of brightness and 120hz, it’d be perfect.
Then it would be an iPad mini pro. Which would cost 800+. Lol. If you want brighter screen and 120hz you need to buy an iPad pro 11. They aren't going to reinvent the wheel for someone that won't even spend a few more bucks on a product that's already available.
@@huskers1278 They could if they wanted to. IPad Pro isn't small like Mini. People buy it because it's small.
@@jasonleetaiwan Small and cheap. That's why the mini exists. They won't do 120hz on it for years. The things would cost too much then no one will buy them. Then the same people that demanded it will complain about a price hike. Rinse and repeat
Would be so sick if it was a 120hz option.
if not next year than 2023
Hello everyday dad. What’s the iPad case that you used in this video ? Thank you!
Hi. Which case do you find best/use most for this new iPad Mini ? - Thanks 👍
Is it good? Im just going to use it for my ebooks and some pictures for school. My old ipad air 1 finally gave out. Its just one of my pics bc its smaller and more compact
What case are you using in this video? Looks like an apple branded Smart Folio but also has the holder for the pen.
Do you think the iPad is too small or not because I want to get it but don’t want a tiny iPad?
Will you keep it? I love my Mini 6!!!!
So I have a MB Air and the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
I’m looking for an iPad for note taking(student), media usage(RUclips etc), gaming(COD Mobile) and the casual researching. Looking at either the iPad Mini 6 or M1 iPad Pro 11”.
However I do have very large hands too, what would be the best device to use incoherence with my other devices and my needs? Any advice?
Honestly this iPad mini is the best iPad ever 🤩🤩🤩🤩
