No way! Thank for commenting man! I gotta check out more of your stuff, I see you’ve collaborated with a ton of great artists! Keep doing your thing! ❤️
Actually, there are way more layers than you would guess. I heard Peter once comment that there were 150 layers in this. Even though it sounds like a choir, there is only these two men's voices. Both of these men have pretty incredible ranges. The song is from "Lord of the Rings."
This is from the movie The Hobbit Peter is a master of layering vocals this song was 120 + layers the voices are only Peter and Tim. Peter was in Oregon and Tim was in the Caribbean
@@hecticreaction I know they it’s crazy Peter Hollens and Home Free have mastered filming in separate places. All during the pandemic Home Free kept us entertained by releasing a new video every couple of weeks. And Peter does his own solo work layering his voice Tim started doing it to
Peter is known for his ability to arrange many, many layers. He has quite a large catalog of solo work. He also does numerous collabs. He and Tim have an entire album of duets. My favorite is their cover of Billy Joel's And So It Goes. And his duet with Avi Kaplan (formerly of PTX) of Black Is the Color of My True Love's Hair is fantastic.
I think you’d really like Tim’s solo album…”PIECES OF ME-VOL.#1”…. it’s pretty Awesome ‼️🔥‼️. He’s done 4 videos from it. He’s got the layering thing done from his good friend Peter Hollens. 1) “COME FOLLOW ME”…2) “WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW/STAY”…..3)”IN MY ROOM “…. They’re DOO-WOP….you’ll be in for a few surprises 🙃💗🙃💥🔥‼️ Oh, this is under his solo channel…TIM FOUST.
It’s from the movie the Hobbit. Peter is another a cappella singer and is a master of layering. Peter and Tim have so many songs together that they made an album. Peter has a beautiful voice. Try Bridge over Troubled Water, And So It Goes, Blackbird. If you watch Tim at the end again notice the camera shakes on that last note!
For the information of all: The lyrics of this were written by J.R.R. Tolkien and it was first published in his book: *"The Hobbit"* as a song sung by the Dwarves visiting Bilbo Baggins in _The Shire_ "And suddenly first one and then another began to sing as they played, deep-throated singing of the dwarves in the deep places of their ancient homes..." (from *The Hobbit: An unexpected party* (c) J.R.R. Tolkien 1937)
It is a song from Lord of the Rings. BTW, Tim taught Jeff(from Voice Play) how to song in the bass register. They were on The Sing Off competing each other. Jeff just couldn't hit those real low notes.
Peter Hollens has been recording for a long time. He is known for multi-layering harmonies with himself. For a great example, check out his cover of “The Sky Rim Theme “ (the full Dovahkiin version.) you will actually see him singing all the parts. He also does it in a video with Lyndsey Sterling that is a more theatrical version.
For insight into Peter, check out his Commencement address to his Alma mater University of Oregon. It was 10 years after he graduated but couldn't attend because of his work (never worked for anyone but himself in music).
I think you’ve heard enough to jump into “Mayday”. It’s very good. Their older (with Chris not Chance) mash up of “Thinking Out Loud” / “Let’s Get It On” is a good one too, led by Austin and Tim.
This is my favorite version of this song. The contrast in voices is beautiful. Peter in the higher tenor ranges & then paired with the true natural bass voice of Tim. And that last dragon's breath note is truly remarkable & how long he sustains it. Peter & Tim have collaborated on quite a few other songs & they are all beautiful. Peter is a master at layering voices. Check out "Sound Of Silence", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Greensleeves", "Fire & Rain", "Teach Your Children", "Sunshine On My Shoulders", "You Can Close Your Eyes", "And So It Goes", "Blackbird" & "You've Got A Friend". Geoff uses subharmonics which I am not a fan of. I much prefer Tim's bass as he uses the growl technique.
Brother next please react "THE POWER OF LOVE" (Celine dion) cover by Vanny Vabiola. Vanny has an angelic voice, very beautiful smooth clear and melodic voice, so powerful. Thanks so much

Geoff Castellucci of VoicePlay did the same song but under the title Far Under the Misty Mountain Cold. Just like there was 3 of Peter here, their was four of Geoff in his video. Looks great and sound just as good. Especially that last dragon note. Several people here mention that Peter Hollens is the master of layering. Check out his video for I See Fire from The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug. AMAZING!!!
Thanks for reacting.
Thank YOU for watching it!
Just love the way this sounds.
Epic sounds!
Tim, Tim, Tim!! HF has,a new one out! " Playin With Fire "!! It's great!!
I’ve been meaning to check that one out! It’s in my list!
I am Peter Hollens ❤

well, close. This song is from The Hobbit. The Dwarves sang this when at Bilbo's house.
That’s wild!
Love the Hobbit book, never saw the movie!
Over 100 layers
Peter is a master at his layering.. And a lot of layering going on in this one. Tim and Peter weren't even together when they did this..
Awesome that they weren’t even together, came out great!
This is from the movie The Hobbit

Peter was in Oregon and Tim was in the Caribbean
120+ layers is insane! Didn’t even realize they were remote! Fitting that it is from The Hobbit movie though, that’s exactly the vibe.

Makes sense!
Got it in one !! This is a brilliant piece of work….lord of the rings!!

👍🏽 love the book but I read it so long ago I didn’t remember much honestly. Thanks for sharing!

He could hit the low notes, he was just trying to develop his deeper register.

Thank you for the insight and suggestions! I don’t have that level of technical knowledge but I love to learn, so I appreciate the brief comparison.
It's from The Hobbit and they did 120 overlays for the song.

All the bass was Tim everything else was Peter
👍🏽 he’s got that that bass!
Yes igmo, this is a cover and yes it is a LotR song..
Watch the damn movie before posting a video with such dumb questions.
😂 i didn’t know it was from the movie, hence why I mentioned it! I think guessing that it was from the movie should give me extra points if anything 😆
