I'm watching this in March 2022. My first take on it was "oh, surely he's playing it up to show the futility of shooting the show from home," but as I'm reading the comments, I'm more identifying with how I've felt as an educator trying to do virtual and hybrid learning. It's still energizing to engage the kiddos, but it's a huge psychological drain and just not as fun. I was really excited to get back into the classroom last fall - but conditions have changed a lot for students, not to mention delta and omicron coming along and reversing some of the freedoms felt last summer. Anyway, enlightening to see the commentary and perspectives here, especially in hindsight.

I think he’s possibly been troubled for a looooong time. There have been rumors flying for years about depression, cocaine, and alcoholism. Since he started hosting he has always looked like he’s trying too hard. Laughing too hard, slapping the desk, almost like he’s desperate for his guests’ approval or for his audience to laugh as hard as he does. Meanwhile Seth Myers is known for making his guests feel welcome and seems like he’s happy to see them and talk to them. His jokes since he’s been working from home are telegraphed wayyy too much though. Like, dude, don’t draw attention to your sight gags, just let them play out. Ruins the joke. I think some of Jimmy’s games with his guests are fun, but his interviews are awkward. The opposite for Seth.
Humor is subjective. Also RUclipsrs with big followings *are* celebrities, Liza koshy is a celebrity, pewdiepie is a celebrity, even theodd1sout is a celebrity.
No hate, but Jimmy Fallon’s daughters “interrupting” the show was adorable at first... And then never again after that. The gimmick wore off immediately, and it being staged kinda soured the whole mood for me.
Yes! At first it was funny and I loved it but then it started to get old and it was the same thing over and over. And as you said, it being staged just ruined it totally
At this point, no one hated Game of Thrones yet... (I'm in the minority that still doesn't hate the final season. Just the Tyrion's bonkers speech that made what's-his-face king. If Winterfell could secede, why not the Iron Islands, why not the Vale? Bullshit.)
Also RUclipsrs are used to putting together the whole production themselves or maybe with just one or two other people, whereas most of these celebrities (like talk show hosts) usually have a huge team of people making making them look good.
The thing is, we're not all in this together. Some of us are struggling to save a business, or to not have our family die, so hearing celebrities say "we're all in this together" from their cushy mansions is infuriating.
Celebrity worship is a plague. Late stage capitalism is killing all of us. The working class needs to wake up. These ultra rich people Are the ones keeping us down.
Any celebrity ever: “hi guys! I know times are rough right now but just know, I am right here with you. In these difficult times we need to remember to stay productive and stay inside. I like to play with my dogs,go to the pool, go to my indoor gym, play games on my mini arcade, things are tough but just know we are all in this together. Love you bye!”
And some of them can’t respond back or have deep conversations with most to all of their fans because honestly that’s exhausting in itself... celebrity culture is awful for the celebrities and the consumer tbh.
“I’m sad I’m stuck with those 9.99 million dollars, but I think we are in the same boat. Same to you hobos. *s t a y h o m e* . We are all in the same boat. Btw FUCK DONATING TO HOBOS”
Can traditional media finally give independent creators some merit and respect? This demonstrates that not only it takes an enormous amount of effort to be your own writer, cinematographer, editor, and fill basically every single position within a production, but It also requires TALENT.
There's also the fact that lots of RUclips creators' content hasn't drastically changed like traditional media has. RUclipsrs were prepared for this, because many of them are already used to doing everything at home by themselves, or at least they started off that way, and it's not too unnatural for them to go back to that. Honestly, the biggest change I've seen from RUclips is an increase in output from a lot of creators, without a dip in quality.
The "at home" editions of the late night shows still employ a lot of the same people: The writing staff still write their material, the editors still edit it, the directors also still direct it albeit all over Zoom and from home. The one major change is that it's the hosts are the ones who set up all the equipment. Oftentimes, their families help (Colbert and Samantha Bee have both said their spouses and children are their at-home crew members, holding their cameras, cue cards and sometimes acting as assistant directors)
I've heard that he has an alcohol issue, though I don't know if it's true. If so, I'm even more worried. Obviously his relationship with his kids isn't the greatest.
Celebrities really have just isolated themselves from being normal in anyway shape or form and trying to relate to an average working person seems like the olympics for them. @@ElegantArtist123 Idk I work a regular job that earns me money. So one could also say that I "benefit" from capitalism. In reality, artists who are well known and liked would most likely be on the wealthier side in any economic system so John Lennon's career is not entirely a product of capitalism.
Also it makes me sad how people are picking apart the lyrics about "Imagine there's no heaven" and religion which basically just means that if people wouldn't live their life for the eternal and would acknowledge that there's only this one shot in life in this world we might be more loving and caring towards other people and better to planet earth.

What they're doing now is what they're supposed to do for work. Lol people making assumptions about others raising their children and stuff is disgusting- get off your high horse.
chickenlittle If anyone’s on a high horse it’s them. They’re struggling so hard to just live like normal people it’s pathetic. That one dude complained about seeing people on the beach? Really? It’s like they’ve distanced themselves so much from normal people just because they’re famous. People who are getting hit harder than them by the pandemic aren’t even complaining as much as they are. Millions in the bank while others are going jobless and they think their lives suck cuz they have to stay home for a while.
I love seeing these Relatable Celebrities because I too don't have to worry about not being able to make this months rent because I was let go from my job or not being able to secure crucial medication for myself because those who do not need it are hoarding it, I can just sit in my fully staffed multi-million dollar mansion and appreciate how we are all truly in The Same Place. For real though, what would be helpful for these celebrities to do is to donate to local food banks or charities to help the needy, much like Seth Meyers is doing by raising funds for City Harvest. And if any of you can donate or make masks any help to these organizations amid this pandemic, it goes a long way.

It's probably awkward because I'm sure comedians who are used to a live audience giving validation for every single joke are now having to perform in a totally different way. This is something RUclipsrs have been doing for a while now, which I think that we've taken their ability of creating a creative video by themselves for granted.

Thats all tv hosts. They always tend to give that fake charismatic impression. Somewhat trying too hard to be relatable toward their audience. Dont blame them thats their job. And this been a cultural thing.
Hot take: Its exceptionally hard to do stand up with no audience reaction. When you have no crowd to feed energy from it’s hard to have a great presence. I’d say reaction style or skit style comedy makes much more sense with no audience, that’s probably why it’s so widely adopted on RUclips.
Hot take: You don't need a crowd, you are literally watching a single man show on youtube and there are many like it that have been entertaining for years...
Fallon's joke delivery is actually kind of creepy and unnerving to watch. He's so dead inside you can legitimately feel it. In a sense I kind of feel bad for him cause it's probably weird to deliver all your jokes to a camera when you're so used to a live tv audience.
A family friend that used to be a legitimate clown in a circus started performing for his neighbors in his cul-de-sac while they were in their own driveways and when they had to stay inside he started zooming himself to entertain people.

Saying "we're all in this together" etc makes it sound like we all are basically affected the same. We're not. You can't say that from a mansion, and knowing that you could live like a rich person for 2 years without going broke.
They're not affected the same as the working class people that will get evicted and not have health insurance when they loose their jobs.

@onmy computer2020gal I don't think it's fair to just say "get it together", I'm not going to try and act like he's suffering exactly like everyone else given that he has a slide in his house, but he still can't go anywhere, or see people in person, he could just be a little depressed about the whole situation, who knows, this situation sucks for everyone, some people have it worse obviously, but it still sucks.
Thomas Herbst He is a millionaire. There is no way his life sucks. I don’t feel an ounce of empathy for him.
The reality that RUclipsrs are funnier than celebrities is jarring

Celebrities are not only forced to live like normal people but now are forced to make content like youtubers
Edit: except they're worse
Its probably because RUclipsrs have more personality and not that celebs don't, but they aren't used to it and it's terrible to watch.
Also RUclipsrs are used to putting together the whole production themselves or maybe with just one or two other people, whereas most of these celebrities (like talk show hosts) usually have a huge team of people making making them look good.
Thats because RUclips isn't their medium, and they should stick to what they're good at.

Jack Landis this right here is a class comment 👏🏼
The "at home" editions of the late night shows still employ a lot of the same people: The writing staff still write their material, the editors still edit it, the directors also still direct it albeit all over Zoom and from home. The one major change is that it's the hosts are the ones who set up all the equipment. Oftentimes, their families help (Colbert and Samantha Bee have both said their spouses and children are their at-home crew members, holding their cameras, cue cards and sometimes acting as assistant directors)

Narcissists. No matter what catastrophe is going on in the world, all they think is: "Don't forget about me!"
Forgotten AND irrelevant, biotch 😁
lmao so fucking true, how pathetic it is😂
OMG this is sooo true
Is Jimmy Fallon okay, because dear lord it's just sad to watch him like this
Well I mean he basically lost everything that made him funny and entertaining to watch so bashing him is just pointless
That's what happens when you rely on your guests and stupid ass games and have 0 personality.
Hey maya are the people who lost their jobs ok? Because they look pretty depressed to me.
Poor guy. But yeah you look at a guy like Conan (who is naturally brilliant) and he is thriving:
"You can tell this was filmed a long time ago cuz they're still counting the quarantine in days, I couldn't tell you how many weeks it's been"
Me on the verge of insanity cuz quarantine hits one year pretty soon 🙃
Mmhm
Years now
2 years going strong
aaaaaaaand two years
I feel like Jimmy Fallon only feels good with an audience laughing at his every move. Or maybe he’s being held hostage
It's probably awkward because I'm sure comedians who are used to a live audience giving validation for every single joke are now having to perform in a totally different way. This is something RUclipsrs have been doing for a while now, which I think that we've taken their ability of creating a creative video by themselves for granted.
Why did the part where Jimmy said “Sometimes you just need a joke to make you laugh...” I actually started to tear up-
Same, is he ok?
Nice grammar..
It sounds like something the Joker would say if he was chronically depressed
Damn Jimmy might not make it out of this.
Same
I never realized how many James' and Jimmy's there are on late night.
Sweetfreeze Neologistix I’ve literally been thinking about this for a while! Also, have you ever noticed that a lot of late night show hosts are white with a black musician???
And John
@@darylesese they just host all the famous musicians
The Night Show Live with Jimmy Famous
HOW
Oh my god Jarvis just let your girlfriend on screen it sounds like she’s being held hostage

5:33, 6:59
10:06
Poor Tom Brady, being forced to see people from his house. Can you imagine?
Delia West imagine all the people living for today?
Delia West I have hoped that it was more disgust at seeing people not following social distancing or shelter-at-home? But I don’t really know
I like how Bieber doesn't know to mute when he's on a live with someone and not wearing headphones. CLOWN SHOES.
DUNCE CAP
I know he is a celebrity but Jimmy looks distressed and uncomfortable. Like if a family member died to corona or something like that. I hope he's doing ok.
Behind that smile theres mental instability or even stress. Dont blame him hes human. The entertainment industry is so fake and unhealthy.
That's how he always looks, though.
Edgyedgelord I don’t think he’s sad he looks tired to me
Cocaine withdrawal
The Fresh JC haha I think that you should change mental instability and stress around. It makes it sound like a “or worse, expelled” situation.
Beginning of Quarentine: “I predict a month”
NOVEMBER: “I hope I can go back to school NEXT FALL”
*laughs in August 2021*
@@footgoblin I've watched this 4 times in quarantine
Jimmy Fallon seems so sad. It’s like he lost his best friend or something and somebody told him that he had to dress up in an all fun where’s Waldo look and told to put a happy face on. :,(
Tbh, even though I don't like his late show. I feel bad for him. It seems he actually misses his co workers or something.
he missed kobe
Sad? I got the impression he was annoyed. Dude was at his limit
I’d say reaction style or skit style comedy makes much more sense with no audience, that’s probably why it’s so widely adopted on RUclips.
twitch streamers are the true heroes
Jon Oliver is still killing it.
Hot take: You don't need a crowd, you are literally watching a single man show on youtube and there are many like it that have been entertaining for years...
@Matthew Herman true stand up comics would be funny enough to adjust, but regular standup form doesnt work rhetorically
Exactly, so they shouldn't even try, the fact they do anyways shows how delusional they are that they think people will still like it
So what we've learned is that celebrities are cringy as hell in real life.
It's more that we're getting to see them unedited and with filters off.
5:25 you can tell its old because they were still counting the quarantine in weeks
Honestly Fallon's sadness makes me giggle more then him trying to land his awful dad jokes.
Reminds me of some of the content creators on RUclips I watch.
Same
Fallon's daughter bringing a trafficked child's energy to a video plugging unicef was definitely funny.
Lmao💀
Considering the outside is cancelled now, zeffo's uprise is coming soon.
We mocked zeffo and now look at what happened.
OUR EXISTENCE IS FORBIDDEN BY ZEFFO
Omg I’m dying
What is this outside you are speaking of, are you saying the man and the ladybug werent only artistic renderings? BLASPHEMY
Blasphemy indeed my friend! We all know you can never escape THE SPIDER
October update: it doesn’t get any better
Ehhh, a lil bit better
@@smellybuttbread where ya from, friend
mid november update, still not better, actually getting worse
Mid November in greece much worse we are in quarantine now
@@villy6314 at least it’s not America lmao
Fallon's joke delivery is actually kind of creepy and unnerving to watch. He's so dead inside you can legitimately feel it. In a sense I kind of feel bad for him cause it's probably weird to deliver all your jokes to a camera when you're so used to a live tv audience.
What does him being a millionaire have to do anything
In a way that makes him more interesting to watch as he's placed into an uncomfortable environment
@@rottenvoid_ because he has so much money and dosent care about his viewers
shaynealicious
Money doesn’t always make you value it more than people look at MrBeast
shaynealicious Having money doesn’t mean his feelings aren’t valid. He could be feeling just as sad and depressed as a poor person right now.
A family friend that used to be a legitimate clown in a circus
started performing for his neighbors in his
cul-de-sac while they were in their own driveways and when they had to stay inside he started zooming himself to entertain people. This reminded me of the trumpet guy so I felt the need to share it.
Alena16 20 that would terrify me! No!
Honestly celebrities now just seem like normal people who crave attention
And don't have any personality whatsoever
Thats all they are all the time. People just put them on pedestals. I hate it. 😅 You watch the news and it goes from "3 people died horrifically in a fire" to instant smile and "Kim Kardashian is coming out with new makeup" or some shit. Thats why I dont watch it anymore. I just dont understand it. 😂😂 I apologize for my little rant.
that's what they are
thats already a normal person
they just get the attention
Faith Facts I was gonna like ur comment but it’s at 69 and I don’t want to change that
got into jarvis's videos this week and i keep getting autoplayed videos from early 2020 and its so weird shes days in like its been almost 3 years now
