Hi from livingstn ,well done kate good job are you going to be pruning your cosmos son i have done mine and they have sent out new shoots just wish we could get some sunshine weather yas been pants cheers 🍷 till next time Anne from Livingston 🌷🌷
Another wonderful video. So I tried earlier this week to "prick out" mines but the roots are all bound and matted. No idea what to do with it, I just plant it as one clump hopefully one survive. ;) Average frost date 18 of may? Wonderful day as it is my birthday, ours in the nl is slightly earlier I think 15 may.
If seeds are sown and germinate indoors, what's (if any) a general rule of thumb for moving out into a tiny plastic 'greenhouse thingy' pls? Running out of window ledges space!
General hardening off is to gradually acclimatise plants to the new area a little every day until they can be out there full time (usually takes a week or two). This might help ruclips.net/video/98ABQOIDTUc/видео.html
This video couldn't have been more timely....I started pricking out and potting on. Can I ask a non-related question? I planted onion sets last autumn and they've grown really well but.....some of them have a stem with a thing on the top. Are they sick and can I eat them? Thanks 👍
It’s hard to tell without seeing them, but it sounds like bolting although it’s really early for them to bolt. Have a google and see if that looks like it. If they have bolted them they will stop producing the actual onion, you can still use them like spring onions, they just won’t get bigger or store
@@eliandkate Looked up bolting and yes, you're right ☹️. Looks like I've got an awful lot of spring onions to eat over the next few days. It might be early because I live in NW Turkey and our springs are a fair bit warmer than yours. Thanks for your help and keep up the good work x
Oh no Dave That’s rubbish Sets are notorious for bolting. Someone recommended sets that are heat treated as being less likely to bolt. Maybe worth a try for next year?
I'm worried about pricking out my little Kiwi plants. I've grown them from (store bought fruit) seed and some have got their lovely jagged true leaves... but they are still quite small. I'm not sure if I should let them continue growing in their little group for a bit longer (they aren't going yellow yet)... or perhaps separate them and pot them on? Great work on your plants Kate (and Eli of course).
If they are super small but showing signs of nutrient deficiency then you could use a liquid fertiliser just to get them through until they are big enough to handle
@@eliandkate I'll keep an eye on them... I have some others that aren't as developed (from the same batch of seeds)... so I could try one lot and save the other. :)
I love pricking out seedlings. A miserable rainy day in the greenhouse or in my case my kitchen (greenhouse is at the plot so start tender plants at home) nothing more relaxing and time well spent, you don't feel guilty about not preparing outside space because the weather is rubbish at least you have another job done.
UGH ! Memories of having to prick out hundreds and hundreds of petunia seedlings a day and we had to be fast . give me plug plants any day theyre much easier .the boss had us planting the tiniest of ones she wouldnt throw any away , but we did crush some of them when she werent looking . its nice now i can just potter and have a brew at the same time .
The two of you just need a couple of bar stools and a cocktail and you can make a date-night out of it. Nice music, it'll be lovely. 🥰🥰☺☺ - Edit: Kate's next lesson: pruning and pinching out the growing tips, etc. I know she'll love that...
I have both English Daisies and Ice Plants to prick out, and neither plant is big enough for a coffee spoon sized digger. I am not looking forward to trying to get them done, they're multi-sewn and crowded worse than either of you did. Casualties expected. 😔

Love your love for your babies ❤
Kate next thing to learn is how to get Eli to fetch you a cuppa like you do for her 😂😂
😍😍😍😂😂😂😂😂😂
Oh I’m not sure about that
@@eliandkate 😂😂😂😂😂 some how I didn't think so
Hi from livingstn ,well done kate good job are you going to be pruning your cosmos son i have done mine and they have sent out new shoots just wish we could get some sunshine weather yas been pants cheers 🍷 till next time Anne from Livingston 🌷🌷
Shhhhhhhhh I haven’t told her about this yet… 😂😂😂😂
@@eliandkate ha ha she will freak out at cutting back the growth 😂 take care
Another wonderful video. So I tried earlier this week to "prick out" mines but the roots are all bound and matted. No idea what to do with it, I just plant it as one clump hopefully one survive. ;) Average frost date 18 of may? Wonderful day as it is my birthday, ours in the nl is slightly earlier I think 15 may.
Oh not long till your birthday then 😁😁😁😁
If seeds are sown and germinate indoors, what's (if any) a general rule of thumb for moving out into a tiny plastic 'greenhouse thingy' pls? Running out of window ledges space!
General hardening off is to gradually acclimatise plants to the new area a little every day until they can be out there full time (usually takes a week or two).
This might help

Oh no Dave
That’s rubbish
Sets are notorious for bolting.
So if Kate is getting into the seed starting game and pricking out, potting up…..does that mean Eli will be getting into the weeding game??? 😂🌱👩🏽🌾
oh hell no!!!
@@eliandkate 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Eli...what mix did you pot em in to...was it just straight compost?
We always make our own mixes
You can find out more on them with this video if you are interested

Totally a bias opinion but love the cheesiness of the new like tag line. 😊❤ I love Kate in the video as a new plant mom. You two are great together. 👍
😂😂😂
Just a wee bit bias
When you sow...we learn to grow as well..😂😂
😍😍😍 awwww
If I had damping off due I discard the soil or can it be used elsewhere?
I wouldn’t recommend using it with your seedlings. You could dump it out into the garden though
I’m with you… I love hearing the rain hit the glass 😍
I use a small offset spatula and a chopstick!
When you make anything a job it loses it’s fun factor…. Even gardening 😍
@@eliandkate very true but i still loved it ,was there for 15 years 7 days a week .apart from winter time . the fool that i am lol . love your videos
The two of you just need a couple of bar stools and a cocktail and you can make a date-night out of it. Nice music, it'll be lovely. 🥰🥰☺☺ - Edit: Kate's next lesson: pruning and pinching out the growing tips, etc. I know she'll love that...
😂😂😂
Have you seen our cocktails in the greenhouse Christmas video?
@@eliandkate No, I don't think I have. I've watched most of your videos but I tend to gloss over Christmas ones. Which one is it? 😁 xx
ruclips.net/video/2sg3QIQ2cEU/видео.html
@@eliandkate 🤣🤣 Loved the outfits. Thanks for the giggle. Now, about that bar stool...
I have both English Daisies and Ice Plants to prick out, and neither plant is big enough for a coffee spoon sized digger. I am not looking forward to trying to get them done, they're multi-sewn and crowded worse than either of you did.
Casualties expected. 😔
Maybe just give them a wee bit longer until they are easier to handle?
It’s really fiddly isn’t it 🥹
i love your relationship haha. i’m in a lesbian relationship too and I aspire to be like you guys when we finally move out together into our own place! She keeps moaning at me keep going on about the progress of my seedlings 😂🌱
She’ll come round eventually 😂
Have you got Kate to pinch out the cosmos yet? ✂️
Shhhhhhhhhhh
Breaking this to her gently tomorrow
"Spade!"
😂😂😂😂
If only my dog would stop pinching the labels!! I can’t kill my babies so I give them away but my greenhouse is full
Noooo
Wonder where the dog puts them???
@@eliandkate unfortunately he eats them! I have to get in there quickly!!😂
Oh no….. wow…. That’s one to watch
You guys are hilarious which is why I stalk you from across the road 😂… free live viewing 😉🪴
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Any idea why they've cut down the tree at the bottom of our garden?
I often find myself clueless about what I planted because I either forgot to label, or the ink that I used faded. 😂
I liked the tagline, even though some cheesiness was involved (And I do like cheese LOL) 👍
Im a fan of cheesy 😂
I use a teaspoon! 😅 i love potting on tomatoes. Always end up with more tomato plants than I need since I just love doing it!
I think we all end up with more than we need… we can’t help it
@@eliandkate
I just have to make space where I can! BTW, I meant to ask where abouts in Scotland are you based? I’m in Falkirk and only three years into my growing journey.
We’re over in East Lothian 😍
