Eli and Kate with gardener Scott, what a great day to start this rainy day here in cold Norway(3 celsius).
And what a great way to separate the seedlings, watch RUclips and learn something new every day.
But I have to do some bragging, because I have 3 tomatoes already blooming.
It's 2 cuttings from last fall and their Tiny Tim mother plant.
All three have been overwintering in the windowsill without any use of grow lights.
I think I'm gonna have some really early tomatoes this year ❤
Overwintering seems to be a real game changer for cold climate gardening 😎

Hi Eli, Damping off is always a possibility when using compost during seed starting, no matter how much airing out you give it, whether homemade compost or not. One way is to just use coir/peat+perlite for seed starting, either in a tray you sow 1 variety altogther and prick out almost as soon as they germinate - it's not too soon, I swear, lol. Use one of the cute green pencil-y things you have (my own is yellow!) and prick out as soon as they grerminate. Because at this time, they will have only 1 long taproot, and it's super easy to transplant to a plug tray, OR you can start the seeds in the tray itself to avoid the pricking out process. You can use a tray like the Charles Dowding 60 cell, or something small, so you don't have to waste seed starter, and also because the smaller cells prevent damping off. You can transplant into the bigger cells in about a week or two after germination or so as soon as they sprout a couple of true leaves, which is when you can mix in compost, coz by this time, usually the stems are strong enough that damping off isn't an issue.

Sooo wish it would warm up, but not 90s like last week. Holy heck it was hot! So Mother Nature heard my complaint and last Monday gave us 6” of snow-Hoo rah😏. It has since turned rainy and cold. Over a 50 degree change is tuff. Our normal lows were exceeding normal highs last week. We should be about 60 F, but we are getting March weather now.
We have alarm temps going off all the time for the new chicks and greenhouse-it’s a riot😳🤯🤪🤣

Blaaaa, you should see all the celery and onions I have😂🤪🤪🤪. I don’t know what the heck I was thinking 🤔. Seriously, I have 3 flats of celery😂. And maybe that in onions, but I crammed them all in milk jugs and the like. I planted some onions out last week and it snowed 6” so now they are all covered in plastic. I was so hoping to get the rest planted to make room, but this fickle weather is a bit hard to deal with.

I love you guys but I’m a real hater of separating and repotting my tomatoes. I think it’s unnecessary and risky for damage. I start my seeds in the bottom third of a solo cup (with drainage holes cut in). As they grow I add more soil. By the time it’s warm enough they are big and strong and healthy 💚🌱
