    Built this boat a week after this video first came out! I've taken it out a bunch of times since then. I've added outriggers and a trolling motor since as well, it's pretty perfect!

    took mine out on the water for the first time yesterday!
    Same basic shape but i took a little longer on the joins and used resin and fibreglass tape.
    Thing is hella buoyant
    Thank you Deek!

    If you want it to last, I would recommend fiberglass tape on all edges that touch water, and be sure to fully paint the inside of the boat also, water will get inside one way or another, and if not waterproofed on the inside will cause the plywood to delaminate, destroying your boat.

    Actually, the trim parts aren't necessarily useless. Inwales and outwales, properly installed, will serve to help stiffen the hull.

  • @WWoodyW
    @WWoodyW 13 лет назад

    Some 2x4 cross members would really help to stiffen things up. Also, not sure about everyone else, but living on the river means that I have some rolls of fiberglass laying around as well as resin. Coat the hull, stretch some fiberglass out and staple it down and coat that and you'll be waterproof for a long time.
    Or you could just buy a fiberglass canoe with 2-3 times as much room for $150-200 on craigslist.

  • @BluntEdgeChisel

    so i built it, i am quite impressed with the stability of it. i might make a video on it. i didnt put on the keel because i didnt feel a need for it. i still dont. although ive only taken her out in our tiny, windless lagoon. i was thinking about putting a trolling motor or possible a VERY SMALL outboard. like a 1.2 horse max! otherwise it could rip it apart. i guess the next project is the "Puddle Duck". look it up! i built the bolger brick, also look up, before this. it is the previous version

    This was cool. If you're cursed with city dwelling, you might think about castors on the bottom to avoid the launch fees at the local boat ramp. the castors also help to drag it around when you don't have a boat trailer. It was just a thought..

    Try making a kayak paddle out of 5 gallon plastic bucket. Cut out paddles from side walls and screw onto stick or old aluminum tent pole add piece of swimming noodle or pipe insulator to make float and also stops water from running down to hands. I made 20 or more they work great and if plastic is to thin double up and pop rivet then together. Nice Video!

    You can actually make a boat out of 2 sheets of ply by bending the wood into shape and tying it without actually separating the pieces.

    Yeah--don't use silicone caulking.
    For a slightly more refined boat, look up Mouse Boat by Gavin Atkin, or check out Hannu's Boat Yard. For any boat like this, a chine log (think of a piece, say, 3/4 inch square and as long as it needs to be) along the inside of the joints, screwed and glued, will enhance rigidity (which is a good thing-- it makes the boat easier to propel) and durability.
    For a huge resource on all things build-your-own-boat, look for Duckworks Magazine on line

    Would it work if I doubled the recipe. Example, 2 sheets of plywood cut, 1 at 4 feet and 2 at 2 feet?

  • @phrankus2009
    @phrankus2009 12 лет назад

    Just needs some 16 inch strap-on bike wheels, amid-ships, and some sort of "wheel-barrel" handles or yoke-system. Makes me wonder just how a smallest-sized john-boat would compare, in weight, and cost, and "multi-mode" suitability. To put it another way ... cost aside ? ... What would be the most wieldy and transportable vehicle that is (at least) 8 feet long by (optimally) about 3-feet wide. Something trail-worthy that could be rolled over rough terrain and obstacles (like RR traks) .
