    dude in the 00's i was over my platformer phase but i'm still surprised ive never heard about any of these games except the scooby one. thanks for always opening my eyes to new obscure games. i always think ive got some measure of knowledge on most games especially goofy stuff but i still wasn't expecting the jumbo tities ngl 😅

      honestly, that’s such an amazing point that I wish I would’ve made in the video. much of the core gamers from the previous generation had kind of grown up and moved on, and the genre never had a lot of “adult” or “edgy” titles, so that is definitely another reason the genre kind of faded out

    • @raccoonpeddler6730
      @raccoonpeddler6730 Месяц назад

      @Mortuary_Gaming yeah exactly games were getting pretty serious especially in the mid 00's so your average teenager or adult wouldn't have looked twice at these thinking it was just another "kids game" like who would rent or buy this when looking at game covers in a shelf with stuff like pop warrior within,god of war or the suffering for example. but i think i might of still liked these.

    Won't disagree on the Malice we *got* being lacking. The Malice that was *planned* seemed quite an interesting venture.
    I believe it started out development on the PS1, about a little girl whose dog became possessed by a demon. The idea was restarted three times and one of the later ideas seemed to have involved time travel, a more freely traversable world, different collectables and the Chinese Five Elements. There's footage of an earlier build on YT that shows this, i believe on a channel called Playstation Museum.
    From what i remember, there would have been stuff like
    - Malice taking the eggs, the unborn children, of the magpies in a horrible war-torn future to a safe pasture in the past, so that the future generation would not be raised in such a horrific war.
    - A magic system inspired by the Chinese Five Elements, as stated before: Wood, Water, Earth, Fire and Water. Wood is harmed by Fire and Metal but fed by Water and Earth, for example.
    - Seemingly five characters that represent these elements, like gods of the world: The SIren Tree is Wood, Dog God is Fire, a big monster mermaid lady would have been Water, the Metal Guardian i needn't spell out... and Malice herself. She's often referred to as Mother, most likely alluding to Mother Earth.
    - The Metal Guardian would already be dead, killed by Dog God, but left instructions for Malice to find parts to repair him throughout her journey. These collectables would give some different upgrades.
    With the Croc remaster and ARRRgonaut attaining a presence again, i duly hope Malice may find a new chance in this day and age too, to live up to the potential it carries. There's a lot i do really like about it, especially in how strange and colorful it can be. Armies of birds dressed in WW1-type gear with biological and mechanical abomination on the crows' side, a rather colorful sewer full of rat people and a giant dieselpunk robot to commandeer, fairytale-like creatures magic, Malice's general design, various parts of the sounddtrack...
    There's stuff that can be *so* cool if a second chance is done well.

    Name a better duo than 2000 platformers and nu-metal.
    I'm rushing through 30 (does In Flames post-Clayman count as new metal? if so, hope somebody gets that reference) and still can't grow over the fact that Warrior Within had Godsmack as its main theme.

      @@raccoonpeddler6730Reroute and Soundtrack were the beginning of mixing the classic melodic metal, but from Come Clarity to Foregone, it's almost a different band. Clayman is an absolute banger of an album and I'll defend it to death.

    I played through Scooby Doo Night of 100 Frights just last week and it was one of the most frustrating experiences. It was extremely hard for all the wrong reasons to the point where I felt 0 desire to collect everything, and I just wanted to finish the game. I'm gonna play the 2 others soon I have left (mystery mayhem and unmasked) and ai hope that they're more fun experiences.

      Mystery Mayhem can be fun but it can be a bit cryptic sometimes. Unmasked is awesome but it' more of a typical 3D platformer compared to the other two

    Here's a few more for those who like 3D platformers: Haven Call of the King, Kya Dark Lineage, Scaler, Vexx and Whiplash.
    Then there is Legend of Kay and Sphinx and The Cursed Mummy but these are available on modern platforms so they're not that obscure.
    Since you included Scooby doo, I would also like to add Taz Wanted and Disney's Treasure Planet for obscure licensed platformers.

    • @jurtheorc8117
      @jurtheorc8117 Месяц назад

      YESSSSS, someone else who knows of Kya! One of my absolute favourites! To this day there's no game quite like it, one of the most in-depth combat systems for a game of its type i've come across.
      Haven: CotK, Vexx, Sphinx and Taz are interesting too. In the case of the first three, part of the interest comes from what they *could* have bene.
