I think it comes down to there ideologies. Sasuke was able to understand Naruto’s pain and his loneliness whereas Naruto was unable to understand Sasuke because Naruto had up to that point never felt the pain of loss or losing someone he loved. It wasn’t until after all the stuff with jiraiya and pain and the war that Naruto was able to truly understand Sasuke with Naruto’s ideology proving to be superior when Naruto defeated Sasuke.
Naruto reaimed his rasengan to not do lethal damage to Sasuke. In a way it was the ideologies but not the parts that you talked about. Naruto valued friendship and those close to him more than anything else while Sasuke cared about nothing but revenge against his brother no matter the cost.

We know that the curse mark couldn’t be used for too long because of the dangers, also Naruto power would have kept growing and he would have sprouted more tails, and ultimately have become something that Sasuke wouldn’t be able to handle. I think on of the greatest overlooked things about Sasuke during this fight is that he ABSOLUTELY had the chance to end Naruto with that final clash and decided not too before he hit by making a fist to not pierce him.

The thing is In 1st fight Naruto was fighting just to scratch the headband. And in 2nd fight Naruto was fighting to bring Sasuke back to Village. I love this, in both of their fights sasuke wanted to kill naruto out of his anger, but naruto wanted to stop sasuke out of his anger. Naruto had the ability to stop him the first time in my opinion but like you said naruto had no intent to hurt sasuke even though he was enraged which led to the punch sasuke landed during the clash
If anyone ever reads this Sasuke would’ve won regardless. First he held back in their fist fight. Sasuke was juiced up and no longer was being drained by curse mark. If Sadie stayed in the village he’d have either died from the curse mark drain or would stay weak. Naruto punches him to the point Narutos bleeding yet Sasuke is fine. He punches Naruto around and gets rid of his shadow clones. Only thing that helps is Rasengan and the retconned chidori that is weaker than rasengan. 2) Sasuke learns the weaker jutsu yet never perfects chidori and only creates variations. Chidori goes from condensed chakra like rasengan but worse than even INCOMPLETE rasengan and drains a ton of chakra (the one he showed Tsunade was incomplete) and Naruto has the strongest jutsu. Summoning is consequential and circumstantial and needs requirements met which is why he couldn’t use it in EVERY fight or else he’d solo the show (in every fight he struggles it’s Kurama example against Kimimaru, movies, shippuden until he masters it). 3) Naruto wasn’t completely tired. He relied on his mates and Kurama to fight and was later saved by Lee or else Kimimaru would use stage 1 (let alone stage 2 that could’ve killed Gaara and Lee if not for the plot killing him). This Sasuke also trained a lot to the point he had no weights Lees speed and also curse mark+3 tomeo. Yet he didn’t go for the kill straight away and was toying with Naruto. Plus he didn’t go curse mark 2 which he can keep up for a LONG TIME (maybe indefinitely) but he’ll lose his mind in the process. 4) he goes for a closed fist instead of a stab at the last second or else Narutos chest would have a hole the size of a head. Yes Sasuke did pierce his lungs and shoulder but Kurama healed that and the neck break. This one Sasuke purposefully didn’t go for a stab.

You’re mostly correct. I’ve watched the entirety of part 1 at least 6 times (not even exaggerating). You are correct in that he scratched the headband to prove a point. But it was because he didn’t want to kill Sasuke. Sasuke also did not go for Naruto’s heart but instead purposefully missed and aimed for the shoulder. He did this “on a passing whim” as clarified in Shippuden as he didn’t want to achieve Mangekyo Sharingan in the same way as Itachi. So so while they were evenly matched, their devotion to their inner convictions (Naruto wanted to save Sasuke and Sasuke wanting to avenge his clan) kept them from killing each other.

Sasuke's hate and purpose was more serious, more powerful than Naruto's will to save his friend and understand him. Naruto didn't understand Sasuke fully yet and once he confronted his own hatred and felt how Sasuke felt about revenge, he was he able to win. Him marking Sasuke's forehead did have great meaning though. It showed he meant what he said and he was going to bring Sasuke back.

I think people are missing the part where Sasuke went from stabbing to a punch. A Chidori there could’ve killed Naruto, and Sasuke decided not to. In the manga, his chidori actually went all the way through Naruto, but in the anime it just like touches the front of Naruto's chest lol I guess cause kids watched the anime and they didn't want it to be too graphic, but in the manga he really was trying to kill Naruto but then changed his mind after he went down.

I think on of the greatest overlooked things about Sasuke during this fight is that he ABSOLUTELY had the chance to end Naruto with that final clash and decided not too before he hit by making a fist to not pierce him.

If anyone ever reads this Sasuke would’ve won regardless. First he held back in their fist fight. Sasuke was juiced up and no longer was being drained by curse mark. If Sadie stayed in the village he’d have either died from the curse mark drain or would stay weak. Naruto punches him to the point Narutos bleeding yet Sasuke is fine. He punches Naruto around and gets rid of his shadow clones. Only thing that helps is Rasengan and the retconned chidori that is weaker than rasengan.
2) Sasuke learns the weaker jutsu yet never perfects chidori and only creates variations. Chidori goes from condensed chakra like rasengan but worse than even INCOMPLETE rasengan and drains a ton of chakra (the one he showed Tsunade was incomplete) and Naruto has the strongest jutsu. Summoning is consequential and circumstantial and needs requirements met which is why he couldn’t use it in EVERY fight or else he’d solo the show (in every fight he struggles it’s Kurama example against Kimimaru, movies, shippuden until he masters it).
3) Naruto wasn’t completely tired. He relied on his mates and Kurama to fight and was later saved by Lee or else Kimimaru would use stage 1 (let alone stage 2 that could’ve killed Gaara and Lee if not for the plot killing him). This Sasuke also trained a lot to the point he had no weights Lees speed and also curse mark+3 tomeo. Yet he didn’t go for the kill straight away and was toying with Naruto. Plus he didn’t go curse mark 2 which he can keep up for a LONG TIME (maybe indefinitely) but he’ll lose his mind in the process.
4) he goes for a closed fist instead of a stab at the last second or else Narutos chest would have a hole the size of a head. Yes Sasuke did pierce his lungs and shoulder but Kurama healed that and the neck break. This one Sasuke purposefully didn’t go for a stab.

You’re mostly correct. I’ve watched the entirety of part 1 at least 6 times (not even exaggerating). You are correct in that he scratched the headband to prove a point. But it was because he didn’t want to kill Sasuke. Sasuke also did not go for Naruto’s heart but instead purposefully missed and aimed for the shoulder. He did this “on a passing whim” as clarified in Shippuden as he didn’t want to achieve Mangekyo Sharingan in the same way as Itachi. So so while they were evenly matched, their devotion to their inner convictions (Naruto wanted to save Sasuke and Sasuke wanting to avenge his clan) kept them from killing each other.

Sasuke's hate and purpose was more serious, more powerful than Naruto's will to save his friend and understand him. Naruto didn't understand Sasuke fully yet and once he confronted his own hatred and felt how Sasuke felt about revenge, he was he able to win. Him marking Sasuke's forehead did have great meaning though. It showed he meant what he said and he was going to bring Sasuke back.
