  • Born in Charleston, South Carolina in 1929 Robert Percell Ferguson grew up playing piano in his dad’s Baptist church. But by age 19 he decided that blues was his calling and hit the road touring with Joe Liggins and the Honeydrippers. He ended up in NYC where at age 21 he waxed his first record for Derby as “Bob Ferguson” followed by a series of other labels including Atlas, Prestige, and Savoy. By the time he recorded for Savoy he had taken on the stage name of “H-Bomb Ferguson.” Despite having a great blues shouting style like Wynonie Harris, H-Bomb never had a huge breakout hit. By 1957 he moved to Cincinatti Ohio where he recorded for King Records and spent the remainder of his life.
This is a video I shot in 2005 at the original Rock N Bowl in New Orleans during the Ponderosa Stomp. H-Bomb passed away the following year at the age of 77.
