Lift parts giveaway - HELP! (please read the description before commenting)

  • IMPORTANT INFO:
    The purpose of this video is to discuss HOW I'm going to give these away (not WHO) - Suggestions in the comments section please, AFTER you've read this!...
    It's taken lots of emails, a trip into London, some testing and preparation, and finally I'm very proud to be offering this stuff for free (exc postage), HOWEVER....
    This is not a "free-for-all" because then I'd have like, 200 people wanting bits and pieces ...think about it - how would "I" manage this!!?
    I want to make sure that I give them to the right people, but I'm not sure who 'the right people' are, so I need some ideas please!
    If any of you are apart of any children's groups (e.g. autism groups) then PLEASE SHARE THIS VIDEO.
    Get in touch here: mrmattandmrchaybusiness@protonmail.com.
    I've already tried to get in touch with autism groups in the UK to see if there are any children that would like some of this, but I've had no progress at all.
    Everything in the video was kindly donated by MKM ELEVATORS - big shout out to the engineers doing the mod on site, for setting it aside (probably saved you some money in disposing it also!!)
    All-in-all, I'm doing this for YOU guys - I'm benefitting by knowing that I'm brightening up someone else's day, by them receiving stuff that I would have absolutely loved as a kid.
    "If you're happy, I'm happy" is another one of my mottos!
    (By the way, postage is an option but you will need to pay this)
    Please, no "can I have a display, can I have a COP, can I have" because then it just becomes a "free-for-all" - 200 requests later...! This is not the purpose of this video! I need suggestions like "do what you did in the *keyring video - get people to send you an email as to why they should get one", or "I'm part of an autism group and I know a kid XXXX who might like some, etc" and other ideas like this!
    (*this 'keyring video' link is at end of video in the end screen - top left)
    Thank you!

    I could use some of those lighted buttons and some arrows and a few LED matrices for an art project. But I think the cost of shipping them to California would be HUGE.

    Some of these car operation panels may be interesting for “Look Mum No Computer” who has opened a museum about technology.

      Oh he'd definitely do something awesome with some of this stuff. Maybe he'd just wire some stuff up with an arduino to show the basic operation, or maybe he'd make a sequencer out of a car operating panel. I definitely vote to send some over to him.

    Man that's a lot of stuff you got in, I hope it gets to someone who would enjoy it. I would be more interested in any of the control boards, so if you find any of that stuff, particularly any old MCE, you know I would be interested. I know someone already commented about "Look Mum No Computer", I second that idea, he has a great electronic museum that would potentially be a good place for some of that stuff.

    wow that's a lot of parts! I believe looking at the back of those buttons they are Dewhurst Series 40, as I saw Switching Components and Series 40 on it which is Dewhurst product names. Nice buttons they are too, got a nice feel when pressing them they do and they look pretty good too. As for how you might give them away, i wonder perhaps first see if there are any groups that might want some (i imagine there would be groups somewhere that would like it - younger kids would definitely enjoy using the COPs wired up as a simulation of a lift - I can say for sure if I had the ability to make one of the COPs in my collection do that I'd be "sending the lift" to "the different floors" a lot!!) And then for what's left after that there could be a similar sort of thing to the keyring giveaway perhaps, although that might depend how much there is as there could be a limit to how much would be viable to have up for giveaway using that method. Food for thought that one, but one thing's for sure you've got a ton of stuff there to work with!

      Those are actually Series 42 buttons, they are used on the rare Fujitecs in Woking! This lift also has the same voice as the Schindlers that used to go up to the red car park in Woking.
      Mrmattandmrchay won't be happy about the fact that the glass Fujitecs are now under modernisation (Kone's modular modernisation process that replaces car components, hoisting equipment like motor and stuff and the logic and the landing doors and buttons and indicators etc) and there are some new Kone lifts opposite those which are actually really nice, not sure how long the yellow car park ones will be before modernisation though
      Series 42 are my favourite buttons because they just click really nicely

    • @ZZ9ProductionsOFFICIAL
      @ZZ9ProductionsOFFICIAL 2 года назад

      @@desiiro at first glance i would have said 42 as well, however seeing 40 on the back was a bit of a surprise, maybe 40 counts just for the workings and 42 is for the aesthetics of the button? idk its an odd one

  • @desiiro
    @desiiro 2 года назад +1

    Wow that is a lot of parts! Those buttons are series 42, part of Dewhurst's Switching Range, they are used on the yellow car park lifts in woking that go in to Peacocks. They are my favourite buttons (totally not because of the fujitecs)
    Speaking of the Fujitecs this would be your last chance most likely as the glass ones are both off being modernised and the other ones I have a feeling are soon to follow.
    Strange indicators, never seen those before, looks like your standard dot matrix with custom glass plates that go above them
    Good luck finding people to give them to as you really do have quite a lot of parts!

    • @mrmattandmrchay
      @mrmattandmrchay  2 года назад

      I remember Peacocks shopping centre very well! As a kid, I remember a separate car park where the lifts arrived on the ground floor, outside? Anyway, these were the first ever 'speaking lifts' that I remember, and this was about 1996? As the lift arrived it said "ground floor... doors opening" whilst all the passengers looked at each other like it was a bit odd!
      The lifts in Peacocks used to look like this:
      ruclips.net/video/beCAzLjjdmA/видео.html
      I don't remember the series 42 buttons though, so perhaps these arrived after the original Fujitec lifts were modernised or something? The landing buttons were definitely the ones in the above video though, remember them like it was yesterday :)

    Wow, Matt, that’s an awesome amount of kit, i would love to make up a car operating panel with an Arduino behind it mounted the games room wall with a microwave motion sensor behind the emergency light panel would be cool to make it roar into life when someone walks past it.
    But, my kids are all growed up now, so i would mostly be only passenger, I hope you get some local interest for it all, if you find yourself with a complete lift car panel at the end, I’ll give it a fabulous home on the wall beside my TV.

    Do you have a local hackerspace or makerspace? The people there would take the parts and make things with them. The level of technical knowledge in most means they'd probably be able to figure out how the mini-displays work and document that. Most of them have links with other spaces and share parts around. A hackerspace got hold of some Chiltern Railways LCD signs a few years ago - many of the spaces active at the time now have those set up in their HQs, and there's tons of documentation online from all the work they did on them. It's a really cool scene.

      @@mrmattandmrchay The Express panel! I have it on my shelf at the moment. What I did was fully take it apart (a small mistake!) and clean every part with nail polish remover (I didn't actually have any alcohol then, I do now). The resin got much less opaque after the cleaning, which made the LEDs behind look a lot brighter. The mistake of disassembling the panel was that the resin in the numbers was cracked at the edges (not on the numbers). It's annoying but you can't see it from the front. I'll send some photos. Nice to talk to you again!

    I got a few Schindler display and sound units from my local scrap yard, picked them up when taking scrap in. They had most of the controller there as well, but it had been removed with a cutting torch, so did not want it. Still have an old 1930's vintage trip switch with integrated ammeter, most of it still there, but the damper oil pot is missing, so it is now fast trip as there is no oil.

    Doing the email idea similar to the keyring giveaway is a pretty good idea. What you could also do (and I’m sure this would take some time) is browse around RUclips and find a channel that deserves a part. These are some very neat looking elevator fixtures in all honesty and I believe whoever gets one will be very happy. I don’t have any elevator fixtures of my own just yet so of course this is interesting. Then again, mailing parts from the UK (or wherever you are) to the middle of the U.S. I feel would be rather costly.

      I'm sure Big Clive would like something to pull to bits, say one each of the various switches/contactors.
      The channel "DiodeGoneWild" would be one of the few that would take the time to fully reverse engineer one of the floor displays.

      @mrmattandmrchay  4 месяца назад

      Well, most of the stuff is still in my garage! It was one thing to get all this stuff, but the 'give away' part ended up not being easy to manage! I'd love to give these to people that really would make some use of them, but it's not as easy as this. I thought I'd be able to meet up with people somewhere local to where I live, then I'd had them over. Packaging these are not easy and people don't seem to realise just how heavy they are also, so it's not just a matter of dropping them off at the post office! Only a couple of them came with LED displays also.
