Thanks Man Now I know to be extra careful on this coil. I wondered it they would break like the 600 and 800 coils. Now I know to be prepared for this happening..
@@freedomdiggersmetaldetecti8964 yes I did check that one out. The Bolt needs to be improved I guess. And or you will be doing some research on another kind of bolt. That coil Brace is Beefy..
Hey buddy hope you had a great Christmas! So...considering I have the 900. I also own two 800s. I replaced both coils on the 800s. Because of coil ear breakage. but seeing this all the new machine and knowing my lab talked about how they had fixed that issue for the new Equinox series... and then finding out it happened not once , but twice to you and even when it was unused..! that is not good.. now I'm going to be paranoid when I'm swinging. 😆 Well I'll get a coil stiffener for my 900.. I actually had a coil stiffener on one of the coils of my 800, and the ear broke on that so I don't know if it's going to really prevent anything. Well thanks for sharing and I hope that something can get figured out in the future. I was just thinking off the top of my head that a sliding bolt like the 800 had with the nut on the end, like the White's machine you were showing.. then maybe it would be a little looser.?.. We'll see what the future brings... happy New Year to you.
I have actually consit'd drilling out the threads on one of these and using a standard bolt & nut setup, But of course that would void the warranty. Another thing I've noticed like I showed in the video That the rod is extremely tight even without putting the bolt on. I think the rubber washers may be just a little too thick. Or perhaps they need grooves cut in to allow for some movement. That is something I can experiment with without voiding any warranty. Coil stiffeners are a little difficult to find for this machine and it's important to keep in mind. It's a different design than the 800 so those will not work on the 900. The best one I found was in the UK. The place was named history finders or history savers something like that. Thanks for stopping by and good luck in the coming year.
Gonna help out everyone here. Food grade silicone spray. Just before you go out to hunt and when you store the detector. Just a quick spray. Works like a charm!
About 10 months ago when I bought my Nokta legend I was trying to decide between the legend and the nox 800. My mind was partially made up from the coil ears breaking and the control boxes leaking on the nox machines.
same here. i just got my nokta legend for christmas and the LG24 coil. i am loving it so far.. my first target was a silver ring and i might have found some gold already. i dont look at the screen unless i'm changing settings either. so far it has been an absolutely outstanding machine. i primarily run in 15/40khz but i have been having some EMI issues.
@freedomdiggersmetaldetecti8964 I have only had EMI noise in one spot. I know some people say thier legend is chatty or noisy after updating but I haven't experienced this issue. I did talk to a guy who has a legend and a nox 800 and he says the nox hits better on very small items like stud earrings.
Wow thanks for the heads up.. If Minelab did the right thing they would just give you another coil and or something to make it better. But it appears that past practice shows they don't want to admit they are at fault, I was still a bit partial to Minelab I have had Five new Minelab detectors in the last 20 years. I have lost faith in them at this time, I just purchased a new 900 and had I know of this problem it would not have been a Minelab...
I haven't had a problem getting a new coil except for paying for the shipping. It's just a major inconvenience. They make outstanding products that perform better than anything else I have seen. The only thing I would say is comparable is the Deus. There has to be a way to prevent this problem. And I think it's going to require more than one preventative measure. I sent away for a very high quality strengthener. When you get your new machine, take note of how tight the coil is before you even put the bolt on there. I showed in the video how the washers bind up and put undue stress on the coil ears. I'm probably going to shave my washers down a little bit.
Do or don't call me a fan boy of Nokta if you want. Four years of detecting & being submerged in the river with no leaks. Tremendous amount of tork on the shaft and coil from the river currents, never broke :) I do know quality, all for $250 :)
Noktas are built like tanks.. I have 2 , but I use minelabs mostly they just perform better for me.. I have 2 original 600 and 800(now 900 and mant.) and always mindful of how hard I am on them and I've never broke one ..noktas ...you can beat em with a hammer ..lol
@wennerygunsmithing5213 The thing I don't like about Noktas is how chatty they are & the lack of accurate target ID on deeper items. Nokta has come a long way, but it takes more than durability to run with the big boys like Minelab & XP.
Over tightening the bolt. I keep mine just tight enough to it’ll hold the coil. If your coil starts getting loose the rubber inserts needs to be replaced. My 2 cents worth
I love how people blame Minelab for everything they do to their detectors, people that are in a hurry are careless with the simple of things, like the over tightening of a bolt!! lol I have never broken the ears off of a coil in 40 years of detecting. I have even seen people leave their detectors in their trucks on hot summer days for weeks, then they wonder why they are having problems!! lol
You sound exactly like I used to sound when someone would have a coil break.... The only thing I "did" in this case was carefully install a new coil & stand the detector up in the corner. Damn right I'm blaming Minelab.
@@freedomdiggersmetaldetecti8964 the 800 the ears were thinner. i'm not gentle with it either. just saying ,maybe you got a older model of coil. ?? my friend broke her 6" coil. (she has a 800) she got another one. coil tek 10x5. elliptical. hope you dont have any problems now. have a good day
When I purchased my 900 I assembled it and drove to beach only to find it eratic whe detecting?? Took me a bit to figure out that coil was bad right out of box? WTF? Sent it back and received new one only to find it was just as bad? Third one seems fine but I also had spare 800 coils and they worked fine. Different problem but same COIL BULLSHIT!!! I always keep spare coil in truck with bolt and nut. 👍🤬
The 900 is really sensitive. I thought I had a bad machine because mine was really chatty. I turned sensitivity down to 18 & started doing noise cancel and a manual ground balance every time I start and it's much smoother now. The drop in sensitivity hasn't hurt depth one bit either- I dug a Merc dime 10" deep last time I went out & it was a clear signal.
I know one thing I broke my minelab coil on my e trac couldn't repair it . The coils are expensive. I been metal detecting for a lot of years and it was the first one I ever broke.
The Etrac & CTX coils cost as much as a beginner detector. These are outstanding machines in every aspect, but the coil breakages are giving Minelab a bad reputation.
Here are two plastic repair vids, ruclips.net/video/FeIv4Fi2vOM/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/siY3-WQLdMU/видео.html I have not tried these but I have epoxied thin washers before. Non metalic. Sometimes it works. Emprovise, adapt and overcome.
Equinox seems plagued, didnt the 600/800 suffer from leaking issues, i never really go into minelab products, i started with nokta and next spring im going to be using the deus one one thing i can say about nokta is you can really rough those machines up and they still work good My mom has a minelab vanquish, i may play around with that a bit next year too, she barely uses it, she showed interest so i bought her it and then i couldn't get her out But the vanquish isnt really peak minelab, the xterra peo or the equinox would probably give me a better idea of the brand
I'd stay away from the X-terra pro. The vdi and tones are all over the place. I'd rather have an old beep and dig machine than it. It falses on foil and nails like crazy.
I almost bought a Deus but the battery in the coil wearing out made me change my mind. I know a few people that had issues with their coils and it was a major pain to get new ones. They don't have problems very often, but when they do, it's really difficult to get repairs or replacements.
@@freedomdiggersmetaldetecti8964 my deus battery when brand new would charge up fully , then sitting there for 3 days would go dead... I could watch it take a full charge and stop charging , and without taking the charge clip off it would start charging again on its own after like 3 hours ..so I got a new battery from them free.. Love the deus as much as the mineleb products ... wish deus would increase battery tho...
I totally agree, far too tight a fit. They should be able to manufacture a part without it breaking. Very dissapointing.
The coil brace I featured in the next video is working out great. Thanks for watching!
Buying a 3D printed support and supergluing the coil ears back together has held up fine for me for a few years now after mine broke
Good to know!
