Brian Wilson's backing vocals are easily my favourite part of this song. The "Real cool head making real good bread" part is infectious.

The arrangement is brilliant. It moves so fast that it's easy to not notice the key change after they do the big instrumental break and go half a step up for the remainder of the song.
I grew up with the Beach Boys. This was a tad faster than I remember it. My favorite Beach Boys song is "Warmth of the Sun". They were wildly popular in the US.

I saw the Beach Boys back in 1977 and Brian Wilson was walking around the audience before the show started. He was wearing a warm up suit and walking with an usher. Everyone was taking a double take on him..I couldn't believe he was so accessible but no one was approaching him!
Back then we showed respect for our music idols. Plain and simple. Dig that. I sa them in 1973 at Notre Dame and they were the amazing original group,minus Brian.
Sounds simple but there are some very interesting musical innovations in the bass line, chord changes and harmonies for 1964.
Group's first Number One, in 1964. It was a counter-punch during the British Invasion. The B-side was the beautiful "Don't Worry Baby".

Love this song sm and their other songs, they're such classics. They were heaps talented with their vocals.
I grew up listening to them as my Dad grew up in the 60s/70s.
if you notice, Denny (The drummer) BROKE a drum stick & he throws it behind him while grabbing a new stick in perfect time. The song is fabulous. It sounds sped up but that's okay because it's the excitement of playing it live with all those screaming girls. The vocals are excellent and the 12 string guitar licks are exceptional!
Brian Wilson was able to make a complex arrangement sound simple.

I met Carl Wilson once on the plane about 15 years ago. He was a great guy and talked about his family.

Listen to "And then I Kissed Her" with All Jardine on vocals...I first heard it when I was a young man on a movie called " Adventures in Babysitting" all though I think it was a female group.Then I heard the Beach Boys version and they killed it!!!

Loved this song as a kid, too... but I couldn’t make out Brian’s high lyrics until now...40+ years later.. watch the Ed Sullivan clip of I Get Around, Brian’s lyrics are: “I’m a real cool head. I’m making real good bread.” Absolutely awesome!

I seen the beach boys live 3 times. This is my favourite song of theirs. The cleverest thing with their songs how high the note is is how high the vocal voice is which is very smart.

Yeah, I used to listen to this as a kid, and 30 years later I've just RUclipsd them again. The way they put the harmonies together is just stellar. They really figured something out for this one. Goosebump wrenching is what I'd say this one is! PS Flight of the Navigator is my fav 2nd fav childhood film: right after Flight of the Navigator.
Hey Nina! I grew up with my older sister playing Beach Boys and Motown records. Many of these songs became part of my bloodstream. It wasn't until many years later that I became a musician and began to hear these songs in a different way. I was astounded when I sat down to learn "I Get Around," it presents itself as a three chord Rock & Roll song at heart, but it blewcmy mind. The flow is just so easy that I never realized how many chord changes and modulations were going on. It's just nuts! I love songs like these. The Beach Boys, The Beatles or Burt Bacharach would change time signitures or keys, drop beats...... and yet the beautiful flow is never interrupted. Just genius! Thanks for your work on these reactions. You have great ears. PS.... I'm a big Grace Vanderwaal fan these days, and I love your take on her music. For me, I get the same sort of vibe coming from Grace as I do Brian Wilson or John Lennon.
I became a musician actually when i was around 8 with the you guessed it the accordian but whether i liked it or not it taught me chord progressions and how to hear them. Ive been a BB fan since the invention of covered wagons. or not I like the non 3 chord songs that they did. i learned to sing harmoneies a lot from them. I played in country bands for 12 years in the San Diego area and did quite well. I became a dj for about 4 years. So whats my point? I have no idea Keep up the good work(: real mediocre musician < my other name Thanks much

Absolutely . He’s definitely a major composer, level talent. And I listen to all those composers, and I know a lot of classical music and his melodies and harmonies thing The great composers have written have written. Would’ve been really fun to hear what Mozart thought about some of the songs.

This was one of best BEACHBOYS. IT had nothing to do with a movie I was in the 6th grade in soCal and I could not get over the coolness of this record. I still play it and marvel at the jumble of good melodies going under over around and back again.

I had the great fortune to attend many of their live concerts from the late 70-s through the early 90's. I have attended some cool concerts by other bands, but The Beach Boys' concerts were so full of fun and energy.

Flight of the Navigator was such a strange movie lol. First half felt like an eerie Twilight Zone episode, so the inclusion of Beach Boys music and Pee Wee Herman in the second half of the movie was so unexpected
Used to see them every time they came around back in the '70s. Man what a great show they always put on. So cool to them still being shown the love.

Takes me back to "CRUZIN" the strip back in the mid-sixties. I was a "Greaser." My girl friend got so frustrated because she was into the Beach Boys, and couldn't hear them over the Chevy Big Block engines (366, 396, 402, 427, 454, etc), the roar of "mag-pipes, and sqealin' tires." Those were some "BOSS" times.
The sound of the 12 string electric guitar like here was prominent in 1964 to 1966, thanks to George Harrison of the Beatles playing the electric Rickenbacker 12 string on Beatles recordings/concerts starting in late 1963 I believe...

Some don't know that The Beach Boys got their distinctive harmonies by copying those of an older vocal group, The Four Freshmen, who were a favourite of their father/manager Murray Wilson. Brian Wilson tells the story in this short ( 5 min.) Y.Tube video : " The Four Freshmen on the BBC July 2012 - RUclips" ( Id give the link, but then the comment would probably go to spam) The modern Four Freshmen lineup knows about this, and there's a point in the video when they segue between both groups singing the Beach Boys' song "Surfer Girl". Brian Wilson, the main songwriter, and the one with the highest voice, sang lead on many of their songs.

.. a great song with some of pop music’s most perfect harmonies, but too bad you used this horrible audio version .. stick with HD sound, as most live performance audio is terribly compromised.
