Tropicana and Gap are not just good examples for horrible logo redesign, but for simplify it too. Today we also have brands destroying their logos just to follow the trend. They are just more careful, trying not to destroy their recognition.

I think they made the logos simpler but way too different so they were unrecognisable. The later update to Tropicana's logo was much better as it kept the font, but kept the style

Isn't that University of California logo, just a knock-off of the BBC Open University logo? (Which I thought was upside down policeman's helmet as a kid :D)

I hate it when companies- especially car companies and food companies- destroy their individuality and their recognizability for the sake of minimalist packaging. Like minimalist packaging looks nice and makes sense with tech companies and the like, but it's completely irrational, idiotic, and nonsensical to give a company best known for their orange juice minimalist packaging. It just doesn't make sense, especially because they already have recognizable, sensible packaging. Leave the minimalist packaging and design to edc & tech companies.
Also your videos are outstanding. Great work!

I can only assume for Tropicana they were going after a different market, maybe to feel more premium. But I agree, it felt so bland it looked like a generic brand

1:15 I can tell that this is supposed to be a simplified owl design, but I only see that because 'The Owl House' has a similar design on its logo

What do you think of KIA doing a rebranding in order to fit in with newer electric car companies? The logo came out and apparently the Google searches for "KN car brand" went up because people thought the new logo looked like KN.

The next video will be about flat car brands and I talk about it very briefly, so it's like you read my mind. I do like the new KIA logo, it's a huge improvement over the original and I'm a little annoyed it's been lumped in with the flat car logo trend.
The legibilty issue was raised as soon as the logo was launched so it's not very surprising. It's a pretty funny goof on their part.
They won't change the logo to make it easier to read as it will likely cost them even more to change it. People on the internet really like to blow stuff like this out of proportion. But we'll get used to it eventually as we see it more and it receives more exposure.

@@onwardsandupwards547 Yes. I do agree that people will get used to it.
Rebranding a company is a long term investment so it'll be fine.

Another example is the Corsair Gaming "tramp stamp" logo, they reverted to a better logo after about a year

The RSPCA in the UK rebranded this year. I much prefer the old brand which was much more traditional and in line with the charity's history. I also find the new purple/blue colour they use really oversaturated and difficult to look at. I've been hoping they'd return to their original branding.
