I'm amazed that in a professional recording studio you don't keep spare batteries. Seems like a no-brainer. I'm a bassist and even I always carry spares
He did say he just ran out of batteries in the last vid. He went to get more and then make the second part. Still feel like he put too much emphasis on something that on the website says that they don't ship with batteries. Ola himself said that they don't ship batteries b/c of country regulations. So it was pretty uncalled for.
For the price, it should have come with the 9v and a spare one 😂 but they say in their website that the battery is not included, so I guess it wasn't an oversight
They didn't forget the battery, that was intentional. I bought a Dingwall Bass from Canada and they didn't ship a battery in it either. It's a customs/safety thing apparently.
Glen, you are a bit young to remember pitching the multi-track tape machine down and tuning the guitars down for metal tracks way back in the dark ages of the 80's. I could tune a guitar down and re-intonate in a smoke break even if the guitar had a Floyd.
I instantly thought of Alexi Laiho the second I saw that guitar. Similar killer looks and all the other cool stuff this guitar is loaded with. It's a beauty for sure! Hope hes's having fun up there! We all miss you!
So many epic face melting albums were recorded with 6 strings and in standard E tuning. While 7 and eight strings are badass, they reek havok in the low end with mixes. You end up cutting a lot of that information out to make room for bass and kick. I remember hearing Korn for the 1st time when they released Blind and was utterly blown away by the lows. Up until then, I associated the 7 string with jazz guitarists and utillizing counter-melody. It's amazing to see/hear how far it has come in just 30 yrs concerning metal. That said, I still prefer the metal made with 6 strings and standard E tuning. Death, At the Gates, In Flames all seem to do fine by it, so if it pleases the metal gods, it's good by me. Thanx Glenn.
Dude YES!!! My son plays now he is 16. He said to me the other day that he thought it was cool how a lot of the older bands like slayer, early Metallica, etc. use standard tuning’s mostly with an occasional drop day and I try to do that my playing I’m not against seven string, guitars, or a string, guitars or low tuning For me. It’s just something I haven’t needed…. Yet please.
"If somebody had of been paying just a little bit more attention..." Come on Glen, there's kids out here watching you for thorough reviews and information, you should have been paying just a little bit more attention when ordering and you definitely should have been paying attention to the comments on the last video before posting this one. To quote one of my favorite music recording RUclipsrs, "Remember kids, always read the fine print!" - Glen Fricker
Going down a half step with the same string gauge is about 30 minutes. Start by turning the screws on the claw that holds the springs counter clockwise a half turn, then retune, and repeat until the bridge is where it should be and the guitar is tuned to pitch. It usually takes me no more than a half turn then 2-3 8th turns on the screws. Adjusting the intonation is not needed.
Cracks are on the ebony fretboards, not on the (roasted) maple ones 😶 As many people pointed out in your previous video - shipping any kind of batteries internationally can be an issue. You have plenty of time to buy one while waiting for your guitar to arrive.
Little bit about the Artist this guitar is signature to: Jonas Wolf is one of the guitar players in the Folk Metal band Eluveitie. Half of Eluveitie, including Jonas, is in another band called Illumishade. Jonas is also in a Van Halen tribute band in Switzerland called Fun Halen. EVH has left big an impression on him as evidenced by this guitar (1 pickup 1 volume, floyd rose, maple fretboard) and his playing. I met him briefly while Eluveitie was on tour, definitely hoping to properly shoot the shit with him about Van Halen one day, as me and the other guitar player in my band are also hugely influence by EVH.
When I was buying a Dingwall in Europe it didn't have a battery as well and the local dealer got one for me. I think it is a normal practice to ship parcels overseas without batteries because it is dangerous and even forbidden in some counties by local laws
While I do understand the argument that low notes are harder to discern, I think the lack of memorable 7-string riffs has more to do with the fact that 7-strings are a lot more recent, and only found in some subgenres of metal, also they didn't really exist back when rock was at its peak.
My first thought was “check and see if you need a battery “. Even when batteries are supplied, they still have a little plastic piece to remove. Glen, totally your fault. 100%
So right about how riffs/tracks are written based on whether your playing a 6 or 7 string (especially 8 strings), limiting yourself to a 6 string really helps you think more about the higher notes. I love 7 strings, I personally think they're the best, but it's always healthy to switch up. Limitation is the best inspiration to creativity. Love the videos man!
Bear in mind that overdriven 6string guitar is around since, say, 50s/60s while as far as I'm concerned, 7 string playing started with Steve Vai's solo stuff and Dream Theater's "Awake" around 1994 or so. Btw, the main riff in "Lie" from the latter is one of my all time 7 string favourites
Genius, Glenn. Trolling your viewers by making a 2-part video. Well played, sir. Got to admit: You had me on the "disappointed" video. I was like "WTF? Over a battery?"🤣🤣🤣
Haha, You sure loved your new toy in this one, Glenn! It was awesome to see you so excited! Loved my Solar E2.6C, other than it felt so damn heavy. Great guitar, but I always went back to my Schecter C1-Platinum. I never thought a off the wall Guitar center exclusive would be my favorite, but its what I end up going back to after an hour or so.
I have the same pickup but in a seven string guitar. The different voices are: 1. a hot active pickup (with the knob pushed in), and 2. a more classic hot passive pickup, à la JB or Super Distortion (knob pushed out) Voicing one has a definite upper-midrange bump, kind of like a built in tube screamer, and sounds best with a modern high gain amp. Voicing 2 is darker without the midrange bump, and sounds best with a more classic crunchy amp pushed with an overdrive pedal :)
Looking at this and the previous video's thumbnails side by side is a delight. Sick looking guitar, I'll be checking to see if they have a non-Fishman version.
The vinter series with fishmans says "note does not ship with 9v battery" i'd say that goes with all the active models. Nah, you're right, some f*cknuckle forgot. 🤦♂️
I totally agree with you, when I started playing guitar back in 1993 I lived on the lower 3 strings below the 7th fret. now it's the exact opposite, it's above the 7th on the higher 3 strings. lol. that's a pretty sick guitar dude , i may have to go snatch one of those up. I have been really craving a single pup guitar with the Floyd and this definitely fits the bill. Great review/reviews you definitely convinced me to go get one. lol.
Reminds me of how at one point Andreas Kisser told Dino Cesarez that you don't have to tune low to be heavy. However, shortly afterwards Andreas started tuning to B flat standard. So....
Solar website states Batteries not included. While I understand your frustration & your point about wanting better, the current market has so may imperfections (cough, Mustaine V), that a missing battery which is specified really doesn't feel worthy of this much disappointment... maybe that's just me though. Thanks for all the detailed reviews, these are great fun
Glenn is a RUclipsr- he used the battery thing and a click bait title to get you all worked up and leave a comment and it worked and now we’re all watching part two because we love Ola and Glenn is getting even more views from that. It’s just a game
I have tried to ship things internationally and had them returned as it contained a battery (they removed the battery before sending it back to me. They could have just removed the battery and continued shipping it). Maybe this is the main reason it didn’t contain one in the box
Probably unpopular opinion. These videos should have been combined to avoid shining an unfair negative light on Solar. Guitars shouldn't be shipped with batteries, especially guitars made in the far east that tend to come with sub-par off brand batteries. The risks are simply too much to justify the convenience of shipping with a battery. It's just weird to make the previous video regarding a "friends" company and then turn around and make this video the next day despite the fact that the manufacturer did the right thing all along.
Love my Solar. My fretwork wasn't the greatest on mine on the edges but still a great guitar. I noticed it even more once I got my esp ltd 7 string baritone awb7 . The fretwork on that esp was really smooth like a great plek job.
Pretty sure Solar doesn't ship guitars with batteries. I didn't get a 9v when I bought one with Fishman's... It may be a shipping restriction for international order?
I mean to say that 6 string guitars have more memorable riffs, than 7s isn’t exactly a fair comparison. because 6 strings have been around way longer.!We started getting 7s available when… the late 90s? So for guitar players to finally be able to get them and write with them, it’s just now in the last 10 years available as much as 6s. your now finally now seeing more and more players using them. I know this comment isn’t about the guitar in the vid, but we have to be fair when you make that statement. Ya you might only be able to count memorable 7 string riffs on one hand, but some of them are riffs that changed music! I mean Steve vai did it, but when korn came out, it was like nirvana all over again. It changed music. And changed guitar building. 6 strings are fun, but in my opinion, when I went to 7 string, it made me a better player! It made guitar exciting again! And I wrote songs like crazy! Sorry about this rant. 😂 just had to voice my opinion on that. I’d love to see you go back to 7s now that you’ve become a better player. Might trigger songs that you yourself can put out! Below is one of the songs I wrote on 7, cause I know you like to see people prove their statements.

It's just a shitty thing to do. There's honest reviews and then there's this, which is just ridiculous.
While the story about most classic riffs being created on a 6 stringer vs 7 stringer is true, it's doesn't actually have to do with the amount of strings, but times itself. Basically ALL the classic riffs were written in the 70-90's when everybody was using "normal" guitars since 7 stringers didn't exist or were really rare. In modern times the amount of classic songs/riffs is very low regardless of the string amount.

Dude threw not 1 but 2 temper tantrums, rewatched them both while editing and still thought it was a good idea to upload them to the world. After being hooked up for free by a friend. Come on, man. Alright, butthurt rant over 🤬😆🤪
You ain't butthurt! Actually Glen is this time, not acknowledging his own mistake 😁.
😂😂@@riangarianga
Yeah, some bs on Glenn's part for sure. 1 mention would've been suffice, and not docking 2.5 stars. Sandy Vag
I'm so proud of seeing you progress on guitar playing Glen, hopefully it will come a day when we can see you play in a band or project.
for some reason, i feel like a 7 string version of this guitar would fit right in with Karl Sanders’ guitars. Very unique look.
A 7 would be pretty cool. This reminds me of the old Alexi LTDs that came out almost 20 years ago.
Looks amazing, and sounds great. Love the kill switch, too.
For the price, it should have come with the 9v and a spare one 😂 but they say in their website that the battery is not included, so I guess it wasn't an oversight
This should be pinned
That's if you order it. We don't know if Glenn ordered this or it was a "free" guitar.
@kanoaikawach in that case it would be more likely that he had received a battery. And Glenn has been doing blind buys for a while
Glen your videos bring comfort to my day! Keep rocking those riffs are sounding better and better
Oh, and I didn't know it was the signature guitar from the guy in Eluveitie... Love the band.
Solar state the Battery is not included Glenn..
They didn't forget the battery, that was intentional. I bought a Dingwall Bass from Canada and they didn't ship a battery in it either. It's a customs/safety thing apparently.
Sounds killer. Thanks for posting.
Glen, you are a bit young to remember pitching the multi-track tape machine down and tuning the guitars down for metal tracks way back in the dark ages of the 80's. I could tune a guitar down and re-intonate in a smoke break even if the guitar had a Floyd.
Awesome! I’ve been waiting for this vid!🤘
I instantly thought of Alexi Laiho the second I saw that guitar. Similar killer looks and all the other cool stuff this guitar is loaded with. It's a beauty for sure! Hope hes's having fun up there! We all miss you!
Fun fact, a 9V battery often is a good backstop to block a Floyd while tuning it.
Thank you
that wood color on that fretboard and headstock looks so nice.
Yet please.
Just looked at this guitar on Solar's website and at the bottom of the page it says "NOTE: 9V battery is not included".
Alright got the 9 volt today! awesome!
Thanks Glenn the guitar sounds great and your playing on it is wicked. Thanks sir for the video. Take care.
That might be the best live rock/metal medley ever. Phenomenal performance
"If somebody had of been paying just a little bit more attention..."
Come on Glen, there's kids out here watching you for thorough reviews and information, you should have been paying just a little bit more attention when ordering and you definitely should have been paying attention to the comments on the last video before posting this one.
Cracks are on the ebony fretboards, not on the (roasted) maple ones 😶
As many people pointed out in your previous video - shipping any kind of batteries internationally can be an issue.
Good on Glenn for righting that wrong!😂
Dude, what an absolute unit. Solar V’s are gorgeous! Can’t wait to own one someday 🤘
While I do understand the argument that low notes are harder to discern, I think the lack of memorable 7-string riffs has more to do with the fact that 7-strings are a lot more recent, and only found in some subgenres of metal, also they didn't really exist back when rock was at its peak.
Yeah but let's be honest they have been out enough to have had more iconic riffs but they don't have much. I'll stick with 6 most of the time
you are getting better and better playing guitar nice job
This guitar looks pretty awesome! Can't wait to take it for a test drive, if I can ever find one.
I’ve seen myself get back into the good ol six strings after having played on 7s for a while. It’s like finding new creative outlets again!
The Bad News shirt is the WIN for the day.
Got to see them at Donnington in the 80's - tell me I'm old haha
Coulda sworn Solar guitars has a comment that says: Note: 9V Battery is not included. Juuust sayin, Glenn!!!
Genius, Glenn. Trolling your viewers by making a 2-part video. Well played, sir. Got to admit: You had me on the "disappointed" video.
I was like "WTF? Over a battery?"🤣🤣🤣
those r2d2 sounds you made with the whammy bar and the gapper button gives me the idea of a gapper button that attaches to the whammy bar itself.
FUCK!!!! Glenn looking AMAZING!!! Fantastic on the weight loss and Keeping healthy!
Good God that thing is beautiful.
Dem Dive-Bombs though
ShredMaster Glennn over here. Somebody come get their grandpa 🤘🏾
I have the same pickup but in a seven string guitar. The different voices are: 1. a hot active pickup (with the knob pushed in), and 2. a more classic hot passive pickup, à la JB or Super Distortion (knob pushed out)
Voicing one has a definite upper-midrange bump, kind of like a built in tube screamer, and sounds best with a modern high gain amp. Voicing 2 is darker without the midrange bump, and sounds best with a more classic crunchy amp pushed with an overdrive pedal :)
Great looking and sounding guitar the crunch is awesome.
Nearly the best benefit of passive pickups no 9v needed
I totally agree Glenn,my playing changes from 7string to 6string.
I feel like when I'm playing a 6string its a lil more inspired.
I've only have one guitar that needed a battery, a Gibson J-29 acoustic. It had a battery installed.
The finish is flawless, by the way 😁
I know Wolf (we live in the same Swiss town), just forwarded him the video ;)
Hey Glenn, I think you need to put yourself on the butthurt of the week over that battery issue! And you bloody know it ! 🤣😂 Keep up the good work 🤘🤘
That is one sweet guitar!
Solar homepage says "batteries not included"
Oh so NOW he's impressed.
Looking at this and the previous video's thumbnails side by side is a delight.
Sick looking guitar, I'll be checking to see if they have a non-Fishman version.
your riffing sounds effortless on that axe man \m/
The vinter series with fishmans says "note does not ship with 9v battery" i'd say that goes with all the active models. Nah, you're right, some f*cknuckle forgot. 🤦♂️
I like the guitar sound you got for this one. Very roomy sounding.
GLEEEEEENNNN!!! Could we get you to look at the schedule Keith merrow SIG soon?
Sounds amazing. wish it had a neck pickup tho.
Great review/reviews you definitely convinced me to go get one. lol.
The intro editing is fun, just so it doesn't seem unappreciated in all the comments actually reacting to the topic of the video.
I agree with the whole 6 string thing and memorable riffs. Repeat after me slowly folks HEAVINESS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TUNING DOWN!
Now you just need the black V1.6C with evertune🤘🏻
Glenn is a RUclipsr- he used the battery thing and a click bait title to get you all worked up and leave a comment and it worked and now we’re all watching part two because we love Ola and Glenn is getting even more views from that. It’s just a game
I have tried to ship things internationally and had them returned as it contained a battery (they removed the battery before sending it back to me. They could have just removed the battery and continued shipping it). Maybe this is the main reason it didn’t contain one in the box
You're absolutely correct.
You being a Canadian I am surprised you haven't seen the kill switch on the Epi Jeff Waters V. That thing came out many years ago.
HEARTWORK is 30 years old this year; what are gonna do about it Gleeeennnnnnnnn!?! Also love hearing the Priest riffs! \m/
Hey Glenn - Why do I never hear Canadian "metal" classic Helix - Rock you as one of your demo songs? Food for thought.
Love my Solar. My fretwork wasn't the greatest on mine on the edges but still a great guitar. I noticed it even more once I got my esp ltd 7 string baritone awb7 . The fretwork on that esp was really smooth like a great plek job.
Sounds good!
I think to two tones of the pickup should have a two position toggle switch instead of push pull. Easier to use while playing.
Was waiting for this
"I'm profoundly disappointed with solar"
Next day: "I'm profoundly impressed with solar"....
Glen, you can jerk our emotions around like this!
You turned your guitar into R2-D2 there for a second.
I Love white guitars, just something about them. That badboy is gorgeous!!!Thanks Glenn.
There are plenty of seven string riffs that are very memorable, dude.
Name more than five.
@@SpectreSoundStudios Knocked Loose has been putting out killer seven string riffs for years, if you're not familiar then they're definitely worth checking out
Right from the Solar website, under the description. “NOTE:9V Battery is not included.”
It’s up to the customer to provide. This is not Solar’s fault. 🤷♂️
Love The Star Wars Reference !!! I've been reading "The Last Command" and Leia just had her babies.
Yeah it's not like it was a mistake with the battery, they were up front about it on the website. It's an issue with regulations in certain jurisdictions. Honestly Glen is being really precious here and his audience doesn't seem to be on his side on this one.
Also come on, We are all fans of Ola here too, and I can't think of a single instance of Ola tearing anyone down or being in any way dishonest. He's always conducted himself with integrity as far as I can tell. Glen is OK, I've been watching him since the beginning, but he sometimes gets it wrong and doubles down.
Over the years I think he's definitely hurt his credibility on a number of occasions, and his thing he does was funny back in the day when his videos of him shitting on bass players first got featured on Ultimate Guitar, but it gets old. He shits on his audience pretty often, shits on gear like the Line6 Spider, which is entry level stuff that helps young kids get into guitar and find different sounds, so they can better choose the gear that suits them when they upgrade. That's snobbery in my opinion. Ola is the opposite of a snob, he constantly shows you can get a good sound with almost any gear. Same with shitting on the "Red Bean" which was cool to do back then, now that it's legacy gear, people are recognising it for how innovative it actually was, and actually there's a pretty big time session player who used it extensively in the studio. Gear snobs aren't cool. Many of our favourite albums were recorded with crap gear because that's all the band could afford, and they made everyone want to buy that gear.
It's just dumb, and unnecessarily negative. The guy runs a studio and doesnt have a 9v battery lying around? What happened to not wasting time in the studio? I suppose it only counts when musicians do it.
I'm glad he (sort of) redeemed himself in the second video by actually reviewing the guitar, which sounds sick too, but really knocking it down that much over a freaking battery is petty and Glen looks like he's trying to court drama in the first video and then walk it back while saving face in the second video.
It's just a shitty thing to do. There's honest reviews and then there's this, which is just ridiculous.
The "Ho ho ho ho" got me!😂
Why is it so beautiful 🤩 son of. I tend to not like white guitars but damn it’s stunning
Dude!! I just shot coffee out of my nose!! “Hello me....meet the real me!” 🤣🤣. That sounded exactly like Dave!! 🤣🤣
In modern times the amount of classic songs/riffs is very low regardless of the string amount.
there WAS a brief time in the 90s, one must remember, that catchy, fun, memorable riffs WERE sometimes played on a seven-string
@@paisleepunk Was there? 😀I think only Dream Theater was doing sevens at the time... but please do tell about these riffs!? 👀
Got some serious guitar collection envy going on here 😮
