It's NOT a guitar! We live in a world where I get annoyed that I have to wait for a car to boot up before I can drive because if I put my seat belt on while I wait for the car to boot up, it will annoy the hell out of me with its seat belt warner, also because that thing is active from the first moment. - And to add to the cringe, cars now have bootup jingles, like it's frickin' NPC style Windows.
You mean get a robot "ai", to say its good.. that sounds like most of the RUclips adverts. I've just seen two in the last 20 minutes. You know the old guy selling whatever It's AI. It's the same bot they used to do a ufo documentary as an experiment and to show the power of ai. It written and presented the sound the graphics and the video was all ai.
You're correct. They thought it was a good idea to send this to a bunch of content creators that play guitar professionally, they're learning that this was a mistake. They should have sent it to toy review channels.
Exactly what I thought when this video immediately followed that video on my feed... Apparently, even the RUclips algorhythms are in agreement and trying to spread the word...
I had a feeling this was it. They offered it to me a while ago, but I just couldn’t see how it help in ANY way! Glad I made that decision, even though I could do with the money. But, like a lot of RUclipsrs, honesty is more important.
Oh man, yeah, I have to import my classical guitar from Spain since there was one shop in my 2-million people city with just 1 guitar from my shortlist.
I found you after seeing TheGuitarGeek channel who REFUSED to review this horrible toy after reading the company email that followed him receiving the toy. He was unable to tell us the name of this toy for liability reasons and if you watch his channel that is titled something about being threatened by legal action, you will understand. The hard part about RUclips is finding reviewers who are not "product prostitutes" that get paid to review and report only positive responses. As soon as TheGuitarGeek read the threatening email that openly said that if he said anything negative and their toy lost money, they would sue him. Not in those words, but it was clear enough. What a sad, sad way to introduce your product. I appreciate that you gave it an honest try and with your integrity intact, Subscribed! I hope this $hit company does not try to sue to for telling the truth!
I seen that video as well. This is an appalling product, now that I know what it is. I am glad to see them get "busted" by the YT community, and for all of the right reasons. What people should take away from this is that there are no short cuts for learning how to play an instrument.
Great video! I came over after watching another video talking about legal action via email... seems like this is the company! And appreciate the honesty and authenticity of staying true to your reviews and criticisms!!! Well done!
Where? He knew it was junk before he even opened it up....he wanted the 800 euros, if that's integrity in your book, glad I don't know you and maybe you don't know the definition of the word.
Not a guitar player. Somehow Andy's video was suggested, I watched it, and screamed I NEED TO KNOW! Then this video pops up and I start watching it, and start wondering IS THIS IT? Then I check the comments! Woo Hoo!
I saw a drum video, where the creator advised using heavier drumsticks for practice than you would for a show. He said it was like swinging an extra bat for warmup. I talked to my personal instructor about it and he said "no, as a musician, you want to practice on the exact same setup you play on, or as close to you can get it", because you want your muscle memory to be locked into what you're going to be playing on stage. I would assume the same holds true to guitar. Like, if you're going to be primarily playing an electric guitar, and sometimes an acoustic, then practice on those types of guitars, with the action where you will normally have it, using the same gauge strings, etc... These kinds of products can possibly do more damage to learning, than good. Remember, practice makes permanent. Only perfect practice makes perfect.
Can't get much more scammy than a $600 toy advertised as an instrument. I'm glad they're sending it out for youtubers to review so more people will see exactly why they should not buy it.
for 600 bucks as a beginner you can get a squire a cheep amp and a multi effect with built in drums and do everything this thing can as well as more like actual playing guitar lol
I love this video!!! So honest and so funny. Being a guitarist for 36 years made this video particularly comical! You're right, it's very simple: just get a very inexpensive nylon string and progress from there. :)
I really appreciate your honesty and integrity! As a beginner myself, I see so many new products and lesson apps promising what they clearly can’t deliver but I can totally understand how someone could be taken in. I may be off base, again as a guitar newb, but I think there can be fine line between products that do smooth the path and those that just taken advantage of beginners’ insecurity and frustration for a fast buck.
I'm moving from Beginner to Intermediate now and one think I did was follow John Pretucci's method of saving everything and splitting it into categories (Technique, Musical & Creative) & . Then he would pull three random things out of a filing cabinet and use them from a practise routine. I used Anki for this and a note taking app like Obsidian, Evernote, Notion, etc. It's great because you choose what you find interesting to learn, and it changes it up every day for you. Just a tip!
@@andycollins4936 thanks! That’s a great tip and timely. I was just re-reviewing online courses and deciding if I want to change because of the lack of direction most provide for how and what to practice. They all have incremental skills oriented sessions and a sequence but none really tell you what you should be doing when you get can’t get from one session, or skill set, to the next. Will definitely look into Pertucci. Have also realized I need to sit down and come up with a plan and schedule - which I’ve been avoiding because I don’t know what I don’t know or how to teach myself between skills as mentioned. Anyway, timely advice - thanks!!
"getting into the wrong habbits because no one is guiding you.." YES! Muting strings is sooooo important. This thing is just a toy as far as I can see. Thanks for making this video, I saw another channel of a curly haired guy who didn't mention the name... but I now know what he was talking about. 😂
There are no shortcuts in life. Hard work and practice are what it takes. I wouldn't buy this for my son. I would get him a nylon string acoustic before spending the money on this thing.
@@karlshuler1011 Don't be mean :) Get him an acoustic with steel strings. They're so much thinner and don't hurt as much as nylon, in my humble opinion.
@@dan_kay I had a friend who had a cheap nylon string with high action that hurt to play. Fixed it with a pocket knife, a file, and some glue. Like I said...
Hearing you play that "Let it be" was hilarious! I'm not mocking you, I'm sure I'd suck as much as you did. I was also impressed by the expressive plastic box reverb. Thank you for an honest review!
It's worse than not being a way into playing a real guitar - it will teach you a bunch of things you would have to unlearn if you wanted to go on to play a real guitar.
Well , i play guitar and used this aero guitar too , it's not the same but with the app and putting the aux into my mixer i get some good sounds. I treat it more like a diffrent instrument and it fits well
"I will not put links to this below... because I simply can't." LMFAO!! Dude! You are awesome! Thanks for having integrity! So little of that found online these days.
Glad to see these things haven't gotten better in over 30 years. I had one, maybe Casio or Yamaha, and it was an unplayable mess. I left it in my car one day, and the fretboard melted 🪦
Oh no no no some might, but I am certainly not going to ignore the part where this guy just straight up said his fret board melted! I have heard cracked. I've heard warped. But melted? How in the unholy hell could someone build something that actually melts then try to sell it to musicians like hey no biggy? Dude I'm sorry on so many levels
I don’t know why you say you would even want one for 150 bucks. For that money you can get a real, playable guitar and start really learning. For this, its an expensive toy and for a guitar learning product it is only going to get you into bad habits and limit what you can learn, whereas with a real 150 dollar guitar you can really play anything, with no limitations (other than your own learning ability), and there are better toys for that money.
@@TheBlindAndTheBeautiful just like this new product, the Casio DG-1 had these silicone/rubber ridges along the fretboard instead of strings. And it gets hot in Texas. I went to grab it out of my car, and suddenly my hand was covered in black goop. It left a huge flat handprint on the fretboard where i picked it up lol
I am interested in sounds that this thing will make when I hit it with a hammer or rock and achieve some Hendrix wailing smashing sounds!!! I can't wait to find one in a trash dump. Whoo Wee! I love it?? Thank You!!!
Hi Henning, I always value your reviews and this is a great example of why. Thanks for putting integrity ahead of profit. 👍It was also great to have a real laugh after going through a bit of a rough time recently. 😊
Watched this yesterday after watching the clickbaitgeek and learning nothing at all. forgot to say I enjoyed your review and your honesty in naming the product. Well done.
I feel your pain with this, this thing really hurts! Thanks so much for warning the world, and for entertaining us. The advice you gave towards the end, to get a cheap nylon acoustic and take some lessons instead, is pure gold!
I'm right there with you about the whole thing. The only advantage I really see is never having to tune.... but that's something any guitarist should know! love the video!
I've watched 6stringtv's video and now I've watched yours too. I have ideas how to fix it: Change the target audience to the guitar-synth people - ditch the educational stuff. Replace the mute sensor with a tactile button. Move all buttons and knobs on the front like on most electric guitars. Map them to their expected midi CCs. Add the 5 pin midi and use standard AA batteries and USB for power. Make it a class compliant device - NO app, NO phone, NO Bluetooth! Both 5 pin midi and USB-C must send midi. Remove the amplifier, speaker, internal sound electronics, lights and non-removable battery. This should save on cost. Remember it must be only a midi/usb controller! Price it at 150 and be competitive with other controllers. Heavy marketing as a synth controller, like: "You can only play guitar, but you want to make other sounds - use this midi controller to play these amazing synths with your guitar skills! Etc." Ensure it's a good controller for rockband and guitarhero games and market to these people too.
No, not this one. I am a keyboard/ synth player for the last 35 years or so, midi/synth guitars exist already for decades, most of them suck too. I recently picked up guitar playing again ( I played as a kid) after a kitchen/ knife accident to get some feeling back in a finger tip, it is fun, but on a real guitar.
What a cogent, lucid, dispassionately thoughtful dissection of a product most would good guitarists & professional axe-gear reviewers would consider beneath their expertise as an object of review. I really like your style, man. ;)
EytschPi, I very much appreciate your honesty. I've followed the channel ever since I was looking for my first guitar and stumbled upon your Harley Benton SC-550 Paradise Amber Flame review 7 years ago which I bought and was happy with.
I'm actually genuinely impressed with its ability to keep up with your playing. I'm guessing it sounds better over RUclips than it does in person, and I agree with your points in general, but it's actually impressive to me as a technological demonstration. It seemed to respond like a guitar being played by a guitarist.
Casio had a synth guitar out in the 80's that did a better job than this abomination and it had the same basic midi sounds as well as proper synth sounds.
@@darrenlivy For some reason the DG guitars feel like different, simpler technology to me, but, upon reflection, I can't come up with any reason why I feel like that. Maybe it's just my expectation of how the modern one is implemented, despite the fact that the older, easier, implementation is just as good.
Thank you for an honest review! It is definitely a thing they are trying to sell to people who are searching for easy solutions that in the end does not work :)
I aplaud you for saying what they would have paid you for the review, gives an interesing insight to the workings of the business. Even more respect for not taking the money when the product seems like absolute trash and the company seems sketchy. Love your content, keep bringing the heat!
There is only one game I know of that will give you almost all the aspects of playing guitar without the technicality of knowing scales , notes , and chords. That is Rocksmith. I have a 1000 song library. Over the last 6 years , I've developed great dexterity, a lot better economy of motion , a lot better ear for notes , a lot more calluses , a lot less pain, and a lot more appreciation for many songs from other genres. I do not consider myself to be good, just ok. However for a hour and a half every day or every other day , I'm enjoying music and playing the bass for the love of playing. Thats all I ever cared about.
I just came across this product on a social media site and was curious about it, but after watching your video I have concluded with you that the product is not for either because I am a professional guitar player and this does not fit what I was originally look for in this product. Great honest review. \m/
I'm glad you reviewed this, I was kind of intrigued for something as a travel practice guitar. I have the original Rocksmith on Xbox 360, and I can see THAT being a decent learning tool. Although I hated how it wouldn't let you unlock every note unless you were getting a high score. I kept messing up because I played songs I knew, but not how the game wanted me to play it. Oh well, at least it didn't keep playing a bad MIDI of "Californication". 😂
Interestingly this popped up exactly one day after I saw the letter video on the other channel. Never before. Strange, eh? At least I found your channel this way. As I find you're an honest guy, you got a new subscriber.
Rocksmith 2014 is actually an amazing “video game” that teaches you how to play guitar in a really fun way . All the little side games and playing / learning all the songs is incredibly fun. You just have to get that proper connections to avoid audio latency I used to play it all the time and so did my little brother who had no experience with guitar . I would buy Rocksmith any day over this
Been playing 2014 since it came out . Thanks to it and customsforge, I have hundreds of songs that I can play by sight reading tabs in real time, and I only need a pc, cable and guitar to make it happen .
I still use Rocksmith 2014 from time to time on my old Sony Playstation 3 with one or the other from my selection of 10 guitars here in the room 😀 Unfortunately they have stopped selling new songs for it, and I did not find yet a way to somehow create my own new input files for it (maybe a basic version based on tabs and midi files) and get it on the system. Would be cool if that would be possible....
They did more than stop selling songs for it - they did the usual Ubisoft routine of trying to make it disappear completely - if you don't already have Rocksmith, you can no longer get it at all
Thanks for an interesting and honest Video. I just watched another video where the You Tuber was threatened with legal Action. I suspect very much that this is the item in question. Keep up the good work! I`ve been playing for the best part of 50 years and there is nothing like a real Guitar. Even the cheapest Amazon guitar will beat this!
Actually the acoustic guitar relatively recently had an invention that is incredible. It started with the Tonewood Amp. It actually produces effects live through the guitar using vibrations. They are making guitars with that tech built in now. There is something really cool about playing an acoustic guitar with effects and no amp.
A few things, you mentioned that the "capo mode" allows you to "detune" it. I'm wondering if there is a way to set it to a custom tuning and not something that is just a tuned up/down version of standard tuning. Can it do drop D tuning? I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but can you play harmonics? Does it do hammer ons and pull offs? Also, is there a way to disable that stupid strumming sound when changing the sound of the thing? I can see that getting REALLY old REALLY fast. Oh, and in addition, while I haven't tried it, I don't think this would have the same feel as an actual guitar. The movement of the vibrating strings. Not sure how this would handle vibrato or string bending.
I did the Fretlight thing when I began. It's a real guitar in all aspects. You plug it into an amp and play it just like a regular guitar. Only it hooks to your PC and there are actual LED lights embedded into the finger board. They light up when you are supposed to play those notes. It's a really good learning tool. But there were issues similar to this. It was all MIDI backing tracks that you downloaded and and to see the lights on the board, you had to hold the guitar at an unnatural angle and that straight away is bad form and technique. I ended up using a normal guitar and placing the Fretlight so I could see the lights and learned chords and songs that way. The bottom line? There are NO free lunches in life. Everyone wants that free lunch and it just isn't happening. My recommendations? Get an electric six string set up with 7 gauge strings, have it professionally set up with low action and if it's a small child, make it a 3/4 scale length. Sore fingers are a Rite of Passage and should not be avoided but instead relished and encouraged. One of the first joys of your journey is the first time you play without pain and you make it thru the song without mistakes. THAT is a shot in the ass that really pumps you up. Don't cheat yourself out of that pleasure
I stopped learning guitar exactly because it's so much more difficult to even get a sound out of it than keyboards/piano. My barrier was barre chords.. they honestly hurt so much no matter what I tried. I've never had any real pain with Piano unless it was because I played too much or when I was doing stretching to get my hand more comfortable with octaves and 9ths... but I didn't have to suffer though any pain until way WAY later on my journey and only because I wanted to get better. And I could do it for few minutes, then return to playing everything I could already play without any pain, which was a lot. I didn't have to suffer pain for BASICS. But watching your video... this is NOT the way to get people through that barrier.
I agree that for starters, these chords are a problem, but also that this toy thing is not the solution. Actually, you can play lots of cool chords without barré even up on the neck. Unfortunately, my guitar teacher back then never told me.
By the way, I am disabled and self taught on guitar and uke. I have a brain injury, muscle weakness, dexterity limitations, severe chronic pain, hypersensitivity, tremors, etc. This would be a frustrating product for people like me. It doesn’t work and the poor user experience will just frustrate most disabled people even more. In my experience, there are better ways to make guitar and any instrument more accessible and less painful. For pain reduction, I would recommend using extra light electric or acoustic strings, or even using a nylon string guitar. There will be pain until calluses develop and even beyond that. There’s no way around that, but there are strings that will be much better than these weird silicone strings with no movement in the fretboard. Finding the right guitar neck profile is a big deal so the thumb and hand are well supported and cradled in the palm where needed. Gotta make sure the action is set nice and low. Usually it’s best to get a short scale guitar below 25” that’s going to play effortlessly vs. buying one that’s 25.5” with much longer, tighter feeling strings (no matter the gauge) that often require strength and a bit of a struggle for someone with hand issues. There are accessories and products out there that can be used in ways that they weren’t intended to be used by the brands that can be helpful. The Roadie 3 is an amazing way to help me tune accurately and quickly because it’s difficult to turn tuning pegs - plus it also helped with ear training, getting comfortable with alternate tunings, and using the built in metronome. I found a capo that’s easy for me to use. I have a lap pad to keep the guitar at the right angle since I usually need to play while sitting in bed and a strap often is bothersome with neck pain. Sometimes you can get wrist supports for compression that helps with pain and strength. I can go on and on. I used apps and websites to help me learn to play using a curriculum (which I either got free trials, beta tested, or got deep discounts before Christmas), while some are entirely free. Some apps like Yousician and Rockband use a gamification type system, others use more traditional methods like Fender Play and Justin Guitar. Lately, the Gibson app has been killing it. The Ultimate Guitar app is amazing with tabs and a great community. I’ve found using a variety of all methods is extremely beneficial so you gain the skills to be able to read tabs and play without depending on these apps (especially gamification types). RUclips is great for looking up specific info, but beware of using quality sources and know that you can’t rely on RUclips to make progress because there’s no guided curriculum on most channels. Point is, even with a brain injury, I learned. I somehow overcame my limitations and learned in a manner that makes me feel confident. I’ve come much farther in 3.5 years than I ever thought would be possible. Learning an instrument is a lifelong commitment. You aren’t going to pick it up and learn quickly even if you don’t have any disabilities- unless you’re a musical prodigy, and most of us are not. Ask any pro musician about their early experiences on guitar, and they’ll tell you about the hours they spent holed up in their room practicing (and this was usually before apps and websites). Some had lessons, others were entirely self taught. But it took time, commitment, and suffering to make it to such a high level. This Aero Guitar wants you to think you can pick up their product and play overnight without any suffering. That’s not how it works. If you’re disabled, there are much less expensive and more productive ways of making guitar and any other instrument more accessible. It takes some trial and error, patience, and yes it’s going to cause some pain and discomfort - but if you love it enough, you’ll be willing to endure that all and may even forget about all those things as you get better on the instrument. Aeroband is trying to sell you some snake oil. And btw, kids can learn on full sized guitars depending on their age. They can also use 3/4 guitars or use a guitar brand like Loog that sells three and six string guitars that come with a free lesson app, flash cards, and lol kinds of other stuff for less than half the price of this Aero Guitar. I’ve even heard of adults buying Loog guitars for themselves. They’re not toys. They play and work like real guitars because they’re real! They even teamed up with Fender recently to make a Fender branded Loog guitar. There are options out there, people. Real options. You can figure it out using real guitars and accessories without buying crappy, WAY overpriced toys that don’t even work as advertised and provide a very poor user experience and interface at that. Rant over, lol. 😂😂😂 Thanks for your honesty and doing the right thing to inform people at your own expense!
Thanks for your excellent feedback. You have some fascinating points. Do you have a channel where you share some of your experience? We're all beginners on this lifelong guitar journey (30+ years for me now!)
I saw the second video first. Nice job with the video and I appreciate your honesty. I like the idea of it though. Too bad it doesn’t do the job. Hopefully with some development it will be a decent product, at a lower price point. I hope they implement your suggestions. Best.
Holy Scheiss! I feel bad about this whole thing. And not even just for anybody who buys into it; but also for those in the design and development of this thing - who somehow managed to miraculously avoid anyone or anything that could tell them it just wasn’t going to work. 😳
I'm so happy that you revealed the name of the company and showed the product. I've seen other reviewers bullied not to do a (bad) review and wouldn't reveal the name. - Consumers really need to know this information. -- I'd have been SO upset if my parents (knowing nothing about music themselves) had bought this for me as a child. By the time I decided to get a real guitar, I'd have learned nothing and would have felt WORSE because of all that time wasted. My figures would then still end up hurting until I built of calluses & I'd still have to learn the chords and names of the strings & notes. Thank you for your honest reviews!
Thanx for this video. I had purchased an Aeroguitar a couple of weeks ago, and was excited about receiving it. It still hasn't been shipped, and I just cancelled my order. Do you remember the Magic Music guitar? Aeroguitar seems similar to that. (It never got off the ground.)
Is 'animals at the end' a regular thing? This is the first video I've seen on this channel, but it's getting an instant subscribe for that concept alone.
The hedgehogs and the request to support your local animal shelter was the best part! I agree that for $500 (and less) you can pick up a great guitar. I obtained a solid wood Breedlove concert European spruce top, solid African mahogany back and sides B-stock NOS (sounded like satin finish, warm & open tones for less than $350, gifted to my son in law). The B-stock was some delamination where the ploy finish didn't bond to the plastic binding, which does not affect playability. A signature Jeff Bridges version was about $75 more, which could be attributed to the more padded and embroidered gig bag. For more comfort (10-46 NYXL, or 9s) and more weight, I have an Ibanez AS-73FM (flamed maple) at $450 local (and Reverb). Thank you for this detailed exploration of features and specifications. Anything worth doing is worth (learning and) doing well.
A friend of mine sent me a promo video of this and I laughed. I said "this is not a guitar. She asked "then what is it?", and I said "it's a toy". She's not a guitarist and she likes technology, so she didn't really get it. This is one the most awful products for guitar I've seen, especially in this price range. Your review was entertaining! I love the honesty and your integrity.
As a synth guy (who also plays guitar) I probably could find some use for it jamming with synths using the MIDI out. But not for more than 500 for that thing.
@@dreamyrhodesthis thing isn't worth a hundred dollars. not even as a midi instrument, it's just too wonky. God, that whole concept is a just a cash grab. these midi sounds had me cringe so hard, haven't heard that midi guitar sounds since 1997 or so...
Integrity can still be found in places on RUclips. I think most Gear reviewers do a great job. So most will not make a video on this thing . Thank You for showing what it really is and saving people a ton of money. $500 can buy You a High Quality Guitar and will be the easiest on the fingers. If this was in a bargain bin for $20 and had a distortion effect, I might buy it, but for more than that, NO WAY!
As a pianist and synth player, (plus someone who secretly wants to learn how to play guitar), I can honestly say that this would teach bad habits that would have to be unlearned to play correctly! That alone makes this a poor/bad product! Thank you for your honesty! Well done!
Judas Priest was highly criticized at the time when they chose to use the new technology of a synth guitar on their Turbo album. Before getting into heavy metal I was totally into techno pop and synth rock so this was a great transition album for me since some of those songs were included on the Priest Live album which got me hooked on their classics.
Well I was going to get my 103 year old grandmother a guitar who has Austin tejus arthritis so I guess this probably wouldn't be the one maybe I should get her an Epiphone 335 I think one of her toes works though and her left pinky what do you think?
Alright so ... this seems to be sitting in between the YouRock and the Lineage (I own both) as it uses the same neck design (they all had silicon frets since it's a long fretboard shaped set of switches, with 22 frets in the same dimensions and like the YouRock it detaches). Except that they completely ignored their strengths and marketed using BS. So, here's what the YouRock/Lineage guitars offer: Independent per string midi, software to configure each string independently (on YouRock it's an app but it doesn't work on v1 which is what you get if you get unsold guitars and you can't update, on the Lineage it's onboard), recording on the device, actual MIDI output port, tapping (play by touching), have a "tremolo bar" which is just a pitch bend but still nice, have a "vibrato" option (modulation), have "guitar" and "synth" modes which can be kinda fun if somewhat pointless since you really should never use its onboard sounds for anything other than practice for which it's not bad really it's a blend between a tiny keyboard and a ukulele with 22 frets in that it may sound like a casio and it takes about as much spaces as the Uke (well the YouRock, the Lineage is unfortunately not detachable so it's like a telecaster in size and shape). In some ways it seems that the YouRock is the most powerful since you can change batteries (which means the product can live far longer and you can replace them if they run out), it's more portable and in v2 you have access to every control on the device or use the app, and once you could even get new voices. Now the YouRock was sold as a video game controller (which really made people dismiss it), also the initial run had some serious tracking issues (mine does), the later versions and the Lineage improved on it. But... Unlike the Lineage, it also could detach the neck. Ultimately it's a midi controller that has a guitar form factor but is not a guitar. And the upside to this is that if all you care about is the MIDI aspect, you can think of really weird tunings (think Allan Holdsworth) and while it's possible to do using conventional guitar MIDI such as JamOrigin's guitar2midi or the Jamstick (great products), not having strings makes it easier to think completely outside the box or even have multiple different families per zone and stuff like that. Anyway, this seems like a lesser version of the other products in features, and greater in looks than the YouTrack. Consider it a MIDI controller, if by any chance it also supports independent midi signals per string it's not as bad as it seems and if it cost 200 USD or a little less it would be quite a good thing to own for experimenting (but not for any of the reasons they give). Personally I love my YouRock and Lineage, just as I expect SynthAxe owners understandably love theirs (and yes I know most people absolutely hate them, test it out before buying because you may not like them at all either). Remember there are many VSTs out there and that (not the speaker) is how this instrument should sound. Honestly, why is it that history repeats itself? I mean imagine they polished it, added swappable batteries, fretless neck, multi string, microtonal options, offered MIDI in/out, had configurable gesture support, the neck were closer to say the Seaboard keyboard, strings allowed for a bowing like gesture, special breath controller support options... I mean, this is the engine for a real powerhouse of a guitar adjacent family of digital instruments... so what do they do? They take high tech, dumb it down, and sell it to people who can't benefit from it while making sure none of the strengths are shown, the features trimmed and the bugs are the forefront of their marketing campaign and presented as it's most salient features. And then, if that were not idiotic enough, they Jack up the price and give it the worst adds and designs they could come up with. Brilliant! I'm sure they'll end up defaulting like YouRock did, though in their case, they at best bought the design at worst simply stole it. Maybe those patents expired? Anyway, if you find one in good will keep these ideas in mind, it really could be worse just think of it as a MIDI controller that has a guitar like feel but isn't one (meaning 30% of your technique will require adapting, the rest will fail but... you'll find other options to explore you couldn't otherwise). I may sound a little salty and negative, but frankly this review is dead on. He's calling them on their BS with absolute honesty. An awesome video, it's just it's sad that I have followed the life of this instrument since its previous incarnation and see it actually devolving instead of fulfilling its potential. Edit Saw the next video, removed my complain about the lack of Bluetooth, this is really great. Added a complaint about the lack of a tremolo bar, which is actually useful. Who knows... maybe they steer the ship in the right direction. At least they seem to be putting attention so this comment will otherwise stay as is.
This isn't just a bad product; it's actually bad for the world that it exists. The bad habits it would form would probably discourage potential guitarists, who think they're hot stuff till they touch a real guitar and get super-defeated.
I watched guitar geeks video about the emails he got from this company. Thanks for the honesty, it sounds like this company will get litigious when they don't like the truth.
This is basically like my You Rock midi guitar I got for less than 100$ from a friend but as a 500$ "gateway guitar". It's basically 15 year old technology that has no purpose being sold nowadays. I use my You Rock as a songwriting tool with my synth plugins but I don't even program midi with that thing. At least I can play Guitar Hero with my You Rock XD
Going even further back, this product reminds me of Suzuki UniSynth XG-1 and XG-1m. I have played one of these. If your expectations are very low, it's an okay product.
1. I could see the issue when you took the mute cover off. I mean, if it was an electric through an amp and you pulled out/pushed in the cable you'd have a bit of a bang so it's a bit like amp off/on. 2. Bends and muting strings ... saw that coming. However, for a beginner it's worth having the challenge of a full open G because that and the F are the first aspirational chords. 3. What about vibrato - or did I miss that? 4. Game mode sounds dire, but it reminds me on the bon tempi organs when they play all the backing track and the user learns one note melodies. 5. Yep, expensive toy.
"Speisekarte".. haha! zu geil! :D Anyways, this could be a great MIDI controller if used correctly. I still have a YouRock Midi guitar and it fucking SLAYS! The Aeroband is a bit steeply priced though being basically the same concept (and might have less options to modify its behaviour and how it reacts to the playing.. not sure...).
As someone who is comfortable playing guitar, my use case for this would be using it as a way of entering MIDI into a DAW more comfortably that using a keyboard.
which only makes sense if the tracking is acceptable and for that use there are already better MIDI guitars or MIDI pickups to upgrade your normal guitars.
Critical reviews are the MOST important ones! If the product is good, a review is cool for affirmation but ultimatly doesnt matter. Even if i dont watch a review before buying im still happy. But if a product has a couple flaws a review is especially needed, because then a potential customer at least knows what to expect. Reviews not existing means having to "guess" on a product and leads to potential disappointment. Dont know who was looking for something like this "guitar" but to each their own i guess😂
I have "severe advanced" osteoarthritis in my hands. The two last joints on my left index finger are basically fused straight - about 5% motion. So... I sometimes have to point the headstock at the ceiling, sometimes have to throw my elbow forward flush with the neck or even further forward than that (yes, looks ridiculous); I have resolved to say good bye to some voicings (e.g. open C), got creative with how I make chords resigned I just can't make some chords at all or just cheat by muting a string in lieu of hitting the right fret (not making the chord). I have had to build up thumb strength cause no more resting the neck in my palm, and I can still "make music" that sounds FAR, FAR better than that thing. I stopped eating sugar and wheat, and am hoping I get lucky and not progress to where I can only do power chords.... but even then, that's MUCH better than that... thing you are reviewing. So, I would say: "for people with arthritis?" Nope. Definitely not a help. You still have to put your fingers in the right places and if they're like gnarly sticks, that's not going to happen. Oh, and, if you are not yet old and have arthritis in your family, give up inflammatory food like wheat and sugar NOW. That should help. No joke.
i tought that was cool, but after watching a few videos, like this im like...they would have to offer me that for free or even pay me to not learn guitar ;) Cheers and thanks for sharing your honesty and wisdom :D you got yourself a new sub.
Well said HP, too many companies think they can jump on the Music Bandwagon, and Literally Steal money from People wanting to learn an instrument so badly, they'll pay for crap like this
If you develop a product that nobody asked for, nobody needs and even then don't do it right... well, that deserves a video like this! Well done!

“Maybe a reboot will do it” is possibly the saddest thing I’ve ever heard anyone say about a guitar. 😢
I wonder if their operating system is done by Microsoft! 😂. I wouldn't even pay $50 for that.. thing. And I'm only a so-so strummer.
"have you tried turning it off and on again"
In all honesty, I think Guitar Hero would still be more fun than this steaming pile.
I take it this is the thing being talked about on another channel where the makers are threatening to sue for saying it's not very good.
You're correct. They thought it was a good idea to send this to a bunch of content creators that play guitar professionally, they're learning that this was a mistake. They should have sent it to toy review channels.
or sent it to test/train robots busking for insults
Exactly what I thought when this video immediately followed that video on my feed... Apparently, even the RUclips algorhythms are in agreement and trying to spread the word...
I had a feeling this was it. They offered it to me a while ago, but I just couldn’t see how it help in ANY way! Glad I made that decision, even though I could do with the money. But, like a lot of RUclipsrs, honesty is more important.
I'd say it's a basically useless, $20 toy.
Thanks for warning people about this one. With more local guitar shops closing, we rely on you guys for honest reviews. All the best.
Oh man, yeah, I have to import my classical guitar from Spain since there was one shop in my 2-million people city with just 1 guitar from my shortlist.
And it was terribly expensive. Like 250 euro more expensive than importing.
Well done!

I was curious what product Andy was talking about , and this was in my suggestion , very funny.
As someone who has actually bought a guitar based off your recommendation (and yes I loved it), THANK YOU for your honesty and transparency.
Based on, not based off
Same here!
@@captaintony1227 Yup and you could likely find those used for even cheaper.
Den, you could have like a decent beginner rig with this much (and just buy a glove if your fingers hurt lmao)
Holy moly it's 600 bucks? I wouldn't pay 50 for that trash, just buy someone who's learning a cheap nylon string or something
Dude do it like the rest of us. Get a decent guitar and amp and learn from
RUclips lol
I'm moving from Beginner to Intermediate now and one think I did was follow John Pretucci's method of saving everything and splitting it into categories (Technique, Musical & Creative) & . Then he would pull three random things out of a filing cabinet and use them from a practise routine. I used Anki for this and a note taking app like Obsidian, Evernote, Notion, etc.
It's great because you choose what you find interesting to learn, and it changes it up every day for you. Just a tip!
@@andycollins4936 thanks! That’s a great tip and timely.
When will people understand that there is no shortcut to learning how to play an instrument?
There are no shortcuts in life. Hard work and practice are what it takes. I wouldn't buy this for my son. I would get him a nylon string acoustic before spending the money on this thing.
@@karlshuler1011
Don't be mean :) Get him an acoustic with steel strings. They're so much thinner and don't hurt as much as nylon, in my humble opinion.
@@dan_kayIf a nylon string guitar hurts your fingers, it's not set up right, or it's no more a guitar than that thing.

I'm right there with you about the whole thing. The only advantage I really see is never having to tune.... but that's something any guitarist should know! love the video!
I've watched 6stringtv's video and now I've watched yours too.
I have ideas how to fix it:
Change the target audience to the guitar-synth people - ditch the educational stuff.
Etc."
Ensure it's a good controller for rockband and guitarhero games and market to these people too.

It does… about 70% and that is already impressive
For$500.....not a chance.
They fixed that in the 2014 version 😄
I started with rocksmith and I remember it being really good!
How would something like the Yamaha EZ AG be as an alternative?
Hi Henning, great video,

yes... it has locking tuners
I learnt to play bass with Rocksmith 2014 during the Covid lockdowns, was the only thing that kept me sane, excellent game.
THE STENCH COMING OFF OF THAT THING IS AMAZING ! 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 😂
Some things are literally perfect and don't need innovation. Like the wheel, or the guitar. Good video. And respect for not selling out.
The guitar is definitely not perfect. But these guys went in the wrong direction.
Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Best.
I was waiting for you to review this thing...I'll get the popcorn out LOL
😂
Holy Scheiss! I feel bad about this whole thing. And not even just for anybody who buys into it; but also for those in the design and development of this thing - who somehow managed to miraculously avoid anyone or anything that could tell them it just wasn’t going to work. 😳
Someone must do a whole album with this.
People don't know what an album is these days
Samurai Guitarist is the right person for that job.
It’d sound like Songsterr played your music for you lol
This is the only response needed.
@@Gliese710_ songsterr's playback sounds more realistic than this POS
There is always implicit bias in any paid review. These tactics take even one step further. Thank you for your honesty.
Thanks for the honest review! Always welcome
I once had an inflatable guitar I won at a fair as a kid. That was about as useful for learning to play as this thing.
No. The inflatable guitar blew. This sucks!
At least that could go in the pool.
Well done!
YOU should get it in your hands!
It does have a better paint job than that a Gibson, Glen. Right up your alley!
Is 'animals at the end' a regular thing? This is the first video I've seen on this channel, but it's getting an instant subscribe for that concept alone.
Great video man, you’re right, aweful product. ..love your ethics 👌. Hope you’re well
The hedgehogs and the request to support your local animal shelter was the best part!
You know what would be an awesome device for learning guitar on? A guitar!
@@dalepres1 Totally! I don't know why some people don't think of that. 😆
😅 they asked me to review this and I said no thanks!
Hmmm yourock guitar...i have one...play midi instruments using the tapping function...does this thing play midi as well?
Finger pain while learning guitar 🎸 is a rite of passage
It doesn't have to hurt that bad if you use light enough strings and have an appropriate setup.
If you get blood it’s extra points
As a pianist and synth player, (plus someone who secretly wants to learn how to play guitar), I can honestly say that this would teach bad habits that would have to be unlearned to play correctly! That alone makes this a poor/bad product! Thank you for your honesty! Well done!
I love reading bad record reviews. That said, I really enjoyed this video 😉 Thanks Henning!
Cool and honest video.. we need way more ppl like you.
I'm from Ukraine and my first guitar was a soviet guitar with action about 10 mm, so for me every normal guitar is a painless guitar
I feel you. My first guitar was a Czech Jolana Galaxis (plugged into an East German Vermona amp)
@@lucaas1307i hear jolanas weren't half bad
@@fanatp0stpanka Oh, they were bad :)
It looks like something I'd buy for my kid off Amazon for £89.99 as an Xmas stocking filler.
Still you can get a nice Harley Benton for that price, and you’d have something very usable. Something like R-446, ST-62CC etc.
Well I was going to get my 103 year old grandmother a guitar who has Austin tejus arthritis so I guess this probably wouldn't be the one maybe I should get her an Epiphone 335 I think one of her toes works though and her left pinky what do you think?
That is what we call “a guitar shaped object.” 😐
I have a chopping board shaped like a fender strat. I reckon if I strummed that it would sound about as good as this monstrosity 😂😂😂
@@tylerdurden5122I need a fender chopping board in my life
At least we identified the object.
Yes she wanted to have a retrospect on this guitar with an opinion on do onions smell good or do they smell autonomous?
I did love seeing your justifiably bonkers reaction to this overpriced gimmick. A brilliant, brave and brutally honest review! Thank you
Thank you for your honest word. I love the „Speisenkarte“ Joke. It is so hilarious or ridiculous. Keep up the good work.
A 3/4 scale nylon string guitar is the already existing solution to the problems aeroband were trying to address with this thing.
Either nylon string or like a super light gauge electric
Maybe 8 gauge strings
I have and use the Guitar Hero as a MIDI controller. In Tap Mode I use with synth plugins. Is not perfect but... works !
Ow man, those midi tracks in game mode 😂 they probably mean well, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions
I watched guitar geeks video about the emails he got from this company. Thanks for the honesty, it sounds like this company will get litigious when they don't like the truth.
You got one as well 😅
I saw the 6stringstv 'review'
Congratulations, for being so honest, you just got another subscriber.
I used it as midi geyboard, for this was it ok
Be careful brother, see what this ‘guitar’ company have done to Andy. Thank you for the truth, as always. They deserve their losses. Stay true.
I think there are already other guitar-based synths/midi controllers that work very well although they are sorta expensive too
I love the summary: "Holy crap it is not good."
That's really all I needed to hear. I'll be sticking with the Les Paul Special.
I applaud your integrity! It's a rare attribute on RUclips!
$500? Utterly ridiculous.
you can literally get a full blown guitar rig for that money, not even used...
I’ve been seeing a lot of ad of this and I’ve been waiting for this honest review video. I kind of predicted this would come.
This shit sounds like midi from 20 years ago
No joke.
Don’t ever make me watch 1:15 of sped up unboxing before you get to the fucking content

i tought that was cool, but after watching a few videos, like this im like...they would have to offer me that for free or even pay me to not learn guitar ;) Cheers and thanks for sharing your honesty and wisdom :D you got yourself a new sub.
