So my 23 Trailboss the transmission is running around 205-210 degrees. No shifting issues…. My former 22 Silverado ran between 150-160 degrees. So question between towing and everyday daily driving are you seeing the same? With all of the issues with previous model transmission you can see my concern.
Chris, That is something that I feel GM will fix soon. They only release the WT Trailboss. They need a LT and Z71 Trailboss also like in the Silverado trucks. Hopefully they will pull their heads out of their back sides and do it right.
I have a 2022 Colorado Z71 with 7700lb towing. I pull a 23' Keystone often with it. I use a weight distribution hitch and have zero issues even in the Ozarks. I've wondered about a 30' camper but I believe I would be above my cargo capacity then.
Also have a 22 and tow a 26’ trailer including hitch. I’ve got sway control now but am going to add a WDH. The dry weight is 4935 and I carry about 400 lbs of added gear . The dry hitch weight is 635 but it only has a battery at the moment. I got 14 mpg last weekend towing average. The temp stayed even and my trans temp never hit 150. Without towing I’m at 124 degrees.
I am definitely considering this vehicle. My issue is I have a 500g bbq pit trailer I need to tow. I’ve been told the tongue weight is right around 1,000lbs. Total trailer weight is 3,500lbs. Off the top of your head does the Canyon seem competent to tow those numbers? The tongue weight is my obvious concern. Thanks to anyone who reads this and offers their two cents.
I would not go that heavy with the 1k tongue weight. about 700 lbs is max. A 3500 lb trailer should not have that heavy of a front end. It was engineered incorrectly. Towing weight is more than fine, but that axel needs to be slid back about a foot or more to move the weight to the rear. Thanks for watching.
while towing and then using the turn signal did the center display change to the blind spot(don't think it does without a trailer, a friend's Silverado only does it when trailer is hooked up)? I just took my 1st test drive in an Elevation, Denali(full driver's Instrument Cluster) is on order.
I just got the Canyon AT4. Did you notice any issues with the turn signal? I have this weird issue where I turn right and the software overcompensates and ends up turning on the left side
Another good review! A question for you. I am looking to buy a 2023 Canyon. Put a deposit on it and went to test drive. While driving I heard a loud humming noise and brought it back to the dealer. After test drives and inspection by their head mechanic, found out it had a defective bearing in the rear differential. They will repair. Question is, should I still pursue this truck? Hard to believe a new truck with that kind of problem. Thanks.
Any vehicle could have errors. Just one part out of 10 thousand was bad. They make one truck every 60 seconds. There is going to be defects. Thanks for watching!
Had the same issue in the second gens. Can't say I'm surprised but if i'm paying that much for a new vehicle it's unacceptable. Dana/Spicer builds the rear ends so i guess their QC has not gotten any better since 2015.
I understand your frustration. But I know GM doesn't want to have problems that tarnish it's reputation. It is just so hard to get perfect parts these days. Hope it all goes well with you.
You know I think I have a project coming up to build a chicken coop with my dad. I might be able to get that video for you. Subscribe and I hope to have it in the next few weeks. Thanks for watching
We have a 2021 GMC Canyon 4x4 with a Duramax diesel engine. We’re hoping to get a camper to live in during the winter months so this video was very helpful! I’m just not sure how big of a camper we can put behind our truck! I’m thinking if it weighs about 6000 Gwvr we should be fine. Am I wrong?
You would want to know the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded. I Haul a 5500 GVWR trailer but fully loaded with all our stuff it actually weighs in at 5140 lbs and then we also have some gear in the bed of our 2023 canyon AT4. Overall the truck has enough payload and towing capacity to tow it and all our stuff.
LOVINGN IT! My only few issues with it is my Gladiator had more rear seat room, and the back seat does not fold down, also the storage in the tailgate is pretty much useless. Other than that very comfortable and easy to drive. thanks for asking!
Got a new problem today . My 2023 Gmc Canyon is not responding to any of my remote keys . 🤷♂️ It midnight now & I guess I will try & open it manually with the physical key tomorrow morning. Don’t want to try it at night & wake up the neighbors just in case it starts honking .
Just a reminder to all who are going to pick up their trucks , Have the dealer check the strength of the battery at the delivery time . Sometimes these batteries sit on the shelf for too long before they get installed in the vehicle .
@@ToddCotta sorry to hear that . GM has up their game . I’ve bought plenty of cars in my life time but never bought the extended warranty, yet I’m glad I bought it for this truck because of all the tech inside .
Yeah problem is I don't own a travel trailer. I was just doing a paper for a buddy so I figured we'd film it. But I'd love to take it out the long grade and see how it does.
My 2022 Colorado with the v6, tow package pulls my trailers really well, 1 6x12 utility with our can-am atv, about 1000 lbs, and a 6x14 cargo trailer, 6 foot ceiling, single axle, approximately 2000 lbs? Not much squat either,
So far I really like it. very comfortable, easy on long trips, don't like that there is no storage space under back seat and the back seat does not fold down. Other than that, it has been more than I expected. Everyone who rides in it with me is very impressed. Thanks for watching!
Hey great videos. I have a question. I have a 8x16 cargo utility trailer. The empty weight is around 2,450 pounds, when its loaded its around 4,500 or give a tiny bit more. Would you say I would be ok towing with this new GMC Canyon( denali) . Especially if get those special GenY hitches? Much appreciated on your feedback. Oh and I live on the east coast...its not like im driving up extreme grades.
Bak Industries Revolver x4s. Love it. Yes I was pulling at 5500 lb trailer with zero trouble. You will need mirrors and make sure you get the trailer package. Good luck! Thanks for watching!
Great video as usual . Just an fyi Today I had water in the tail gate storage bin and it was very light rain a couple days ago . My jumper cables were very wet 🤷♂️
Yeah they claim it's watertight but mine doesn't keep all the water out either. I believe the seal is a little bit too small to really be a watertight box. But I've never seen much water get in there. Thanks for watching

Hey, great vid! I was wondering how you feel about the shifter location. Do you ever notice that it’s further away from the driver seat and wish that it was closer to the left? Or is it something that you don’t really notice? Thanks!
Wow good question. I never even thought about the location. It's just a shifter and it is not too far or too close. I like it better than my old Gladiator shifter.
I have a yamaha 255fsh center console that weighs in dry at 4880 lbs fuel 111 gallons and trailer should come in around 6500 I can't wait to see how it tows that. Great videos you post!!!
I bought the AT4, and love it...But, Sometimes my phone hooks up via bluetooth, sometimes it doesn't. A couple of times I went out to the truck and ALL 4 windows were down. A couple of times I was sitting in the truck after arriving at work, truck was off (door opened then closed) and after a few minutes of sitting there the fan inside came on, then off, then a few mins later it came on again, then went back off. Now I can push the button on the door handle to lock the truck doors, but the button does not unlock it. yellow LEDs in the front flash, but it wont unlock. Wondering if anybody else is seeing this with their new Canyons or Colorados? I obviously need to take it in, but time is not on my side for the dealership is not at a convenient location. Plus, the dealership sucks, delivery was the worst I ever experienced. The truck was not detailed, had protective shipping cover stickers still there, the sliding window must have been broken for there were shards of that glass in cabin, and some in bed. Windshield wiper fluid level was low, and was not filled up when I pointed it out before leaving. LOVE the truck, just need to get these issues resolved.
That is odd. I have turned my truck off and the fan did kick on while I was in the cab, but I have never heard it click on when I am out of the cab. Interesting how your system is acting up. Has GM dealership looked at the issues?
Well within the diameters? I think you mean parameters! The unfortunately it sounds like something I might say, so I can’t say much. But you made feel a little better, that I’m not alone! lol

Have seen some crazy set ups that shouldn’t have been on the road. I like these midsize pickups. Wish dodge would bring back theirs.
I have a ZR2 on order, but I am starting to consider an Elevation 4x4 for the higher towing. I know off-road and towing capabilities are separate considerations, but I kinda want it all, and the ZR2 is a lot of value in todays market. Decisions, decisions.
