Rules clarification: you may, in fact, draft a card before placing tokens and place cubes from cards in between placing each of your 3 drafted tokens.
Interesting, i must have missed that rule as we play it in sequence.
The instruction says that:
1. You draw tokens from the bag and place them on your board (obligatory).
2. You choose an animal card (optional).
3. You put an animal cube on a token (optional).
All these actions may be performed in any order. You may even put a token on your board, then perform an optional action, and then place another token.
Ah well, i'll pin this comment.
Harmonies is delightful game in the mold of cascadia & calico that nestles into a nice cosy niche of being a lovely 2 player game, or a reasonably fine group game. It's not the deepest and greatest game ever made, but its nice looking, very solid, and feels very repayable. I can see it become a staple in many households.
Pinned a slight rules correction which opens up the timing of the game more than we thought.
Its the true end to the calico and cascadia sequel imo
100k by the end of the year, you reckon? Has been nice seeing your channel grow.
Kia ora David, probably not quite 100k, that would be lovely, but it's probably closer to mid next year if things continue as is.
Wow! About halfway through, I was thinking this sounds like a mix of Azul and Cascadia which are two of my favs. Thanks for the review!
Kia ora! Love the review! I'm wondering about how good the solo mode is. My go-to cozy solo game is Cascadia, which shares the same vibe as this one. Also, do the players really consider the tokens as environment (e.g. "a river") instead of "the blue token"? This aspect is really important to me as I tend to immerse myself less in more abstract games.
Sorry, haven't tried it
As for the 2nd question, we somewhat did
Feels very similar to Dreamscape.
Having looked up dreamscape i can see the comparison.
Ooo, this sounds like a lovely game. I hadn't heard of it before! I shall add it alongside Cascadia in the "try if available" list. I really like the sound of two layers of placement scoring, terrain and animals, and the 3D aspect to your built-up board is appealing in other games that I've played.
Yeah, this is an easy recommend to make. Its just lovely and inoffensive and fun
Wow! About a minute in, it sounded like a mix of Azul and Cascadia which are two of my favs. Thanks for the review!
Very interesting you you recommended Calico but not Cascadia.
Calico seems to feature more luck because you are confined in the tile placement space as well as the luck of the tile draw, whereas Cascadia has more ways to score and you aren’t confined in your tile placement space.
Harmonies seems to constrained in terms of the 2D layout of the board, but the 3D aspect likely ameliorates that and makes you less screwed by an unlucky tile/token draw, therefore it seems like it might be more like Cascadia.
I tend to link to games I've already reviewed where possible, and the Cascadia review had not been done at this point in time. It is now available for patrons and should be out to the general public in a month or so.
In general, don't read too much into my recommendations if the game you are thinking of hasn't been reviewed on the channel. It likely means i havent played the game you are thinking of.
@@3MBG ah OK that makes sense.
I haven’t played Harmonies, I was just speculating. I may find it to be more like Calico than Cascadia as well.
Personally I’m torn between Calico and Cascadia. I like the simplicity of Calico (in contrast to so many games that give you 6+ different ways to score), but the last time I played Cascadia was very satisfying and make me question my initial preference for Calico.
I have Azul and Calico, so maybe this would be a good fit. But i still haven't played Cascadia and i think I'd rather go that route first
I think either/both would be great, Reminds me, we need to review Cascadia.
Not 'Gold Medal', I see.
Sounds similar to Cascadia.
Not quite, solid and fun game, will keep and steph loves it, but just a step short of greatness really
I’ve played it three times recently and really enjoy it. Perhaps a bit more than Cascadia, but will need to play it more to see if that stays true, or this game is just the new hotness. My main complaint is that the wait time between turns can be painful, especially at four players. @3MBG is correct about this being best at 2, and I’ve not even tried it at 2 yet.
Got this game when it came out. My wife and I like this game. Even though we are both playing to win, we both root for each other to finish our terrain.
Perfect!
