  • The recent wildfires across LA have left more than just physical destruction-they’ve created the potential for long-lasting health risks. Board certified nurse practitioner Dr. James Simmons joined us in studio to share his insight about the potential impact of wildfires on our health, even for those living far from the burn areas.
Dr. Simmons shares some worrisome symptoms to watch for, including irritated eyes, coughing, and fatigue. However, more serious signs like chest tightness, difficulty breathing, or chest pain require immediate medical attention. Children, pregnant individuals, and the elderly are particularly vulnerable due to faster breathing rates and preexisting health conditions.
Dr. Simmons also shared a few ways to help protect yourself, including creating a clean air space at home with HEPA filters, sealing windows, and avoiding outdoor exposure during poor air quality conditions. If you must go outside, wear a properly fitted N95 or KN95 mask and limit physical activity. With these precautions, the risks can be minimized even as the impacts of wildfire smoke linger.

That was a good point about the people in NYC affected by the aftermath of the attacks. They were on my mind when the wildfire smoke became a hazard.

Then why are none of you reporters wearing masks when they report from the fires: (

that was weird that they were out there without any ppe. they definitely should be wearing it though. all the fearmongering about a virus was ridiculous, but this time- wear your ppe if you live near either of these fires 😷

Wall Street is already making bets on the health outcomes declining dramatically in Los Angeles. Pharma alone plans on making a windfall in the coming months/years.

No trust in him after the pregnant person comment. And why is he walking his dog in polluted air wearing a n95 mask while his dog is breathing all that horrible air. wtf
