As someone who previously worked at a computer server warehouse during summer in high school dealing with filthy systems exactly like this every day, I really enjoyed this video and it was so entertaining and satisfying to watch...Cleaning out a disgusting system ridding it of all the age and dust making it look and feel brand new again is just way more rewarding than just building a brand new pc with top-of-the-line components that you can find on major retailers like every other pc build on the internet. Really appreciate you sharing this, liked and subbed!
I agree. Yesterday I cleaned my computer case which was FILLED with dust like seriously no wonder I couldn't run games good and it overheated often. I thought it was the gigabyte geforce gtx 770 which was bad but it couldn't just get air and also my case restricted the air flow so I opened it up. Now works better than a lot of todays low-mid end gpu's I definitely agree making something that works better is way more rewarding than just buying something you don't need.

The thing about this is, I'm sure that Greg realises that this video would gain a lot of views so when you really think about it he probably made sextuple the amount he would if he just took money for cleaning it, and that's the wonders of youtube.
My friend's dad found something like this on the side of the road. He picked it up and dropped it at my house knowing I'd be interested. Utterly filthy; years of dust, dead bugs, and solid, sticky grime. I cleaned it up using some of your PCDC videos as inspiration, and after replacing the power supply and putting in an SSD I've put together a pretty capable system for my cousin. The thing had a reference Radeon R9 290, which still holds up incredibly well in modern games but is ridiculously loud. Worst part is an FX 4100, but I think I'll get him an FX 8350 for Christmas. Love this series, super therapeutic and inspiring. I went down to my Grandma's house on Monday and gave her system a clean, it was much overdue and its plenty more quiet now.

I gave a friend my Core 2 Quad Q6600 system. A year later the HDD failed. I took it back and boy was it ever as dirty as this one. It was definitely in a smokers house. I had to take everything apart and clean everything with alcohol just like you did. Took me days to get it clean, and even then it would never come perfectly clean as I didn't have an ozone machine. In the end though it looked as amazing as the day I gave it to him. Upgraded it to a SSD and from 4GB to 8GB DDR2. I understand your dedication.

Found this channel yesterday and I've already binged all of it. Very satisfying, and I feel like its a gentle introduction into how to build a gaming PC (since I know literally nothing about computer internals.) Great work, keep it up! I'd love to see more colorful case replacements if you have access to them. I know color isn't used much in PCs besides pink and RGB in general, but it would be legit to see a white, green, or orange case replacement. Keep up the great content and I hope you get as much satisfaction out of cleaning these as I do learning about the insides of a computer.
There is something so satisfying about seeing all these neglected components getting cleaned up. It looked like some of them might have had liquid damage, so that odd smell might have been really old coffee or something mixed with the grim and dirt.
You should get yourself a small ultrasonic cleaner, when I get in components that are in that state you can put them in the ultrasonic cleaner for 10-15 mins @ 40-50C then soak in Isopropyl alcohol and they come out looking brand new!
Hey there again. I just bought new tools for cleaning My rigs and thought I would share with you. Qtips extra large for pets are killer on fan blades. I got them from Amazon for a few bucks. Also picked up black qtips for cleaning off Tim from CPU/GPU it shows up really well on them. Look them up you may like them in your efforts to clean PCs. Keep on rocking and 🥂

Roaches absolutely horrify me. I can not stand roaches. I've had my pc for almost a year now and i have a mini vacuum and i just use it on my system once a month and still looks like the day I got it. Just a little cleaning goes a long way for pcs. Also keep them away from the ground. Get a big desk that can fit your pc and monitor on top. Awesome videos. Keep up the awesome work. I'm in the tampa area. Hey Greg. Props to you. Diving into these science fair projects is akin to working in a biohazard lab. Here’s a suggestion, based on my experiences. I’ve been in the automotive detailing business for years, and the best tool that we use, by far, is a tool called a Tornador. Yes, Tornador, not Tornado. It uses compressed air and various solutions such as IPA, or degreasers, and is indispensable. We use it around vehicle electronics, instrument clusters, window and door switches and the like. I’ve used it with care, to clean PC’s as well with great success. Take a look and see what you think.

I absolutely love this series, but I'd love to see a quick benchmark run on some of these older/different systems we don't see very often. That would be cool!
These videos already require several days worth of filming and cleaning _each,_ so I'm not keen on adding any additional time to them. On top of that, I don't like accessing random viewer builds for the sake of benchmarking a few things. Sure, I could add my own drive, but I'd need to install Windows for every single build that comes in, and that's just not feasible.

I just redid a q9400 not too long ago, it was a dell that I upgraded, that machine ran extremely well with the 8GB DDR2 and SSD upgrade, it was impressive for the age.

I think the great part about repurposing or rebuilding older PCs is that there’s always something out there they’re actually useful for.

I just redid a q9400 not too long ago, it was a dell that I upgraded, that machine ran extremely well with the 8GB DDR2 and SSD upgrade, it was impressive for the age.
