- Shekhar Gupta meets Sonia Gandhi, who he describes as carrying a "formidable dynasty on her slender shoulders," in Anand Bhawan, the ancestral Nehru home in Allahabad. She talks of coming to Anand Bhawan as a young bride and new mother, cooking pasta for Indira Gandhi, her life with husband Rajiv and the career that was thrust upon her - leader of the Congress.

You can call her many names, but imagine being an Indian going to Italy and being elected as even mayor of a small city as a 1st generation immigrant, learning a new language and adopting a new way of dress: Pretty challenging for most of us. Atleast in that respect, one has to give credit to her. Half of Indians if given a chance to get an EU citizenship would love to escape India- she could've left India and gone back to her parents after Rajiv Gandhi died, but she stayed on, especially when everyone was after her because of Bofors in the 90s. I think that says a lot about her allegience to India.
