    Excellent re-recorded album, it sounds dark, evil, there are even more elements of death metal and reminds of Death - Scream Bloody Gore and Necrophagia, the song Nightmares of Delirium and that sound is something I would like to hear on the next Cavalera Conspiracy album, because I think there is no need to re-record other albums.💪🤘

      Great point about bringing out those death metal elements. A friend of mine from Brazil used to say that Sepultura 'were' death metal when he was growing up; they'd get Death and Possessed on import, but Sepultura were just as early. It's still surprising to me that Morbid Visions isn't brought up in the same way, given it was released in November '86, while Scream Bloody Gore was being recorded. I guess because SBG came 'fully-formed', and was far better recorded?

    In the press-release, Max stated: “The Third World Trilogy is finally complete with Schizophrenia, Bestial Devastation, and Morbid Visions, all three Brazilian underground gems!". So I don't think, they are coming for Beneath the Remains.
    And regarding the name, I think all the business with dropping Conspiracy has something to do with Nuclear Blast Records. They released all the re-record albums and listed the band as "Cavalera" on the official site, with remakes the only ones in the discography. It's either the label, or they can't use the name with out Marc Rizzo. At some point they started to list the line-up as Max/Iggor/Rizzo, regardless who played the bass on albums or tours. So maybe he owns a part somehow. I don't know, they still add Conspiracy at some of the art cover and have it in the Spotify catalog in my country.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  3 месяца назад +1

      Necrotic Nick- Honestly, this is where I wanted it to stop. This trilogy of releases where the only ones I thought justified a re-recording treatment and they nailed it with all 3. Yeah, I figured with just the Cavalera logo up there rather than the full Cavalera Conspiracy one it would work better anyway with the old school font. It might be for legal reasons though as you said too. It's hard to say.

    I don't remember the original too much, I'm ashamed to say. Beneath the Remains was my intro, didn't go back before that. Going in blind to this one. Really good. Reminds me in parts of early Sodom, Kreator and Death. Igor's drumming is awesome. The fills!! Max sounds good too. I prefer this to the other two reissues. Stronger songs. Digging it!

      Necrotic Nick- Hey, it's never too late to go back and check out the original. I got into them with Arise as teen and then backtracked from there but I've always had a love hate relationship with this early era which they re-recorded. Loved the music but I hated the production but with these re-recordings everything sounds as vicious as ever but with a production that value that gives it clarity but also retains the grit. I'm not even a big fan of re-recordings in general but they did such a killer job with these.

    I have weird relationships with first 2 (3?) Sepultura albums. In my head I always referred to Beneath The Remains as the debut. Like with Pantera and Cowboys from Hell. And the re-recordings are kind of putting those albums back there into the discography, somehow.

      @@thrallsofmetal I have to say, when I first heard Sepultura re-recordings, I wasn't even sure I was listening the same songs. "I listened it before and it can't be the same album!". I thought that it's just variations on the original riffs at best. And then came back to the originals and discover, that it's all there. The arpeggios, the picking patterns, the solos. As Jon said about "To the Wall". Such a bizarre feeling, like was I deaf all this years? Would be very interesting to hear Reek of Putrefaction with more or less authentic, but readable sound.

    Kudos to the guy who produced these older Sepultura albums.

    I thought that this Cavalera Conspiracy re-recording of this classic Sepultura album was decent. However, I do prefer the mix and production of the original. Unlike Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation, the production on Schizophrenia doesn't need to be improved on. If it ain't broke, don't fix it in other words.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  3 месяца назад +1

      Necrotic Nick- I've used to the original for years. Even with it's, in my opinion, flawed production it's still endearing in a way but this version gives it the heft and clarity that I think it needed. The guitars are crunchier, the drums sound infinitely better and everything is played with the same ferocity. Rarely do you get that with re-recordings and they've done it 3 times now.

    To clarify a couple inquiries you guys had here, both answers based on what Max has said on socials posts regarding this release: One, this will in fact be the last re-recording they do. Two, the last track, along with the final tracks on the other two recently released re-recordings, are NEW songs, not old ones that were never released. All the more reason I hope they keep working on new material into the future. First four Cavalera Conspiracy albums are all fucking great front-to-back and the three new tracks kick ass as well and would indicate that if they released a completely new album, it would sound as if 80s-early 90s Sepultura were releasing new material.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  3 месяца назад +1

      Necrotic Nick- Well, I'm glad they're stopping with this one. Beneath the Remains and Arise are pretty much untouchable in my opinion. As to the new songs, I dig the hell out of them and I'm in total agreeance that I'd love to hear that material carry over to some new Cavalera albums. It really feels like Max and Igor have really tapped into that old sound again with a reinvigorated energy again.

    “Stop at this one.” That’s exactly right. Loved the original Schizophrenia but this sounds awesome. Beneath the Remains is perfection though. It’s my favourite of all their albums and one of my favourites of all time.
    If you want to hear a bad re-recording that neuters the original , check out Gorgoroth’s re-recording of Under the Sign of Hell. Love the original, it’s so vicious and nasty. The re-recording is awful, weak and generic sounding.

    I’ll give this a listen, but honestly I’m not that interested to be honest. Unlike Bestial Devastation and Morbid Visions, which had objective issues with the performances and production, the original version of this album was very good and, in my opinion, didn’t need a re-recording. Compared to the debut album and the EP, the original Schizophrenia was tight, cohesive, and performed very well. It was a massive improvement on the debut. I understand Max and Igor doing these re-recordings, and to his credit, Max sounds great, almost better than he did in his prime. But I categorize this under the same category as things like Let There Be Blood and First Strike, Still Deadly; well-performed but ultimately unnecessary, in my opinion. But, I’m aware the nostalgia sells, so there will be a lot of people really into this, which is good, but I don’t see myself listening to this often. Great video as usual gentlemen🤘

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  3 месяца назад

      Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! For me, I'm still not a fan of the production on the OG or the remaster of Schizophrenia. It's always had muddy production and I've never liked the sound of the drums personally so to me this recording was kinda warranted in the same way it was for Bestial Devastation and Morbid Visions. I think this one in particular with the improved production really shows off how awesome the riff work is too. I love the album but some of the intricacies in the riff work kinda got lost in the mud whereas here you can hear every ferocious note clearly but also with the same intensity and a tone that brings out the death metal elements more. It's all a matter of preference though but I am glad they're stopping here. I'd like to hear some fresh Cavalera Conspiracy songs on a new album with this energy again.

    Brilliant once again. It's great to hear those first three releases retooled. Like I said for the last two, tonnes of fun and crushing production; they really show how pioneering those early songs were. My one comment with this would be that it feels strange not hearing Andreas' guitar on Schizophrenia, given that it was his debut. That said, Max and Igor earned the right. The fact that Sepultura turned in a career-high album as their last with Quadra, and Max and Igor are rerecording these early records; it's been a great time to be a fan of this band in all it's guises. Jon nailed it when he said Arthur strikes the balance between modern and organic; this could be a well-produced early 90s metal album. Igor sounds 👌J

      Necrotic Nick- While I do miss Andreas' leadwork I've got to give it to Travis Stone. He nailed the parts right down to the different effects and wild phrasing that Andreas' is known for. Hopefully, now that they're done with these re-recordings and the Derrick Green era of Sepultura is winding down there's maybe the possibility of a full reunion if all goes well. Either way, I'm excited to see what all Max and Igor do with some fresh material for Cavalera Conspiracy and I'm kinda curious what all Andreas does too.

    This one even sounds more like the OG recording, it doesn't sound that much different on the first couple of listens that the original. I can see an argument for re-recording the first two releases (Morbid & Bestial ) since the production was soooo rough on those, but this... this? I really feel that all the $$$, time and effort put into this project w/ Arthur Rizk would have been better spent on writing and releasing all new thrash/speed material from the brothers Cavalera. I'm happy with my 1998 gold CD remaster of this album, the OG recordings are GOAT. This felt very unnecessary.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  3 месяца назад +1

      Necrotic Nick- There's enough differences for me to say this sounds better. The drums are night and day compared to original and the guitars are way less muddy which was awesome because all that sick riff work was so much more clear. I still have my gold remaster but honestly it still doesn't sound that great. The production on Schizophrenia has always been the thing that I thought held it back a bit. As for their motivations, it might have been to get the rights back or just simply because they were never really satisfied with how it turned out much like Bestial Devastation and Morbid Visions. I think going beyond this point (which they're thankfully not doing that) would make this re-recording thing seem more dubious but stopping here seemed like the logical point and they did through on something new to show that this retro sound might be where they go with the new stuff.

  • @stefantopuzov6140

    For me, Schizophrenia is where classic Sepultura really starts. The previous albums hinted at potential that is unleashed on this one. The production might as well be the only setback of the original, so the rerecording is very welcome 🤘

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  3 месяца назад

      Necrotic Nick- Agreed. I love the early stuff for being pioneering but Schizophrenia stepped up with the songwriting, the riffs and gave them a sound that was distinct. The songs on this album were brilliant but just the victim of really rough production. Here, they're getting some new life and man does it sound as ferocious as it did when I was a teen if not more so.

      Necrotic Nick- I can see it as something the songwriters wanted to do if they weren't satisfied with the how the original turned out which I think it at least partially the case here. The production was never that good even by 1987's standards and this might also give them the rights back to the music as well. There might be a lot of different reasons for this but I'm glad they gave it the makeover it deserved.

    I agree with everything you guys reviewed on the albums. I thought the same thing. The 1st 3 were in need of being brought up to standards, or at least more palatable. Schizophrenia has always been one of my fav metal albums. The riffage is insane, as is all of Max's material. The drumming is exactly where it should be, and the sound overall has given me a new lease on the metal life/community. It's been a great year for metal so far, the best I think we've seen in decades. The new material put out in the past 2 years is incredible. Got new Cannibal Corpse, got new Deicide, new Suffocation, new Cavalera (soon to reclaim Sepultura, imo) Funny how they go through these phases of saying metal is dead, but it's more ALIVVVE than ever. BUT, I also agree that they need to stop the re-recordings now. Beneath the Remains and up don't need any work. They all are damn perfect.
