Episode summary
"A raven flies through the gates of Winterfell, swooping past Bran Stark, who's standing in the courtyard practising his archery. He walks after the bird, and when he catches up to it, sees that the raven has three eyes. Bran wakens from the dream and finds himself in bed with his wolf Summer, still unable to walk. Theon Greyjoy enters the room with Hodor, a large and simpleminded stable boy, who carries Bran downstairs."

The way you guys treated Sam this episode is such a breath of fresh air. Most reactors don't give him the time of day because he's got a cowardly persona. But you guys gave him the benefit of the doubt and even thought of other ways he could be useful. You guys try to see BOTH points of views with characters and their antagonists and I love that. Keep being real fellas

Especially when a lot of first watchers, forget that going to the wall isn't a choice for people. Sam never wanted to be there. He's not a warrior. That's all I mean. Sansa is still angry with her father for killing her dire wolf. That’s why she told her Septa she didn’t want to speak to him, ever.
And the reason she told her Septa to shut up was because she essentially said it was a good thing that Lady was killed.
When her loyalty to the Lannisters is what got Lady killed.

She is not responsible in any way, the adults are. When questioned in ep 2 she chose the option most likely to de-escalate the situation, trying to stay out of it and not side with anyone.
If she were overly loyal to the Lannisters she'd have called Arya a liar and supported Joeffrey's story. If she'd corroborated Arya's version of events then she knew she'd open a whole can of worms; at best the marriage would be off (and her family name disgraced), at worst they could be exhiled, have their lands and titles stripped or they could even be executed.
This world does not have a fair justice system, even the naïve Starks know this, to say anything that could be critical of the royals, especially the King or his heir, could be seen as treason. The King and heir are above the law. Ned even alludes to why Sansa said what she did when he speaks with Arya after the event. Even if she were not engaged to the Prince she'd be expected to support her husband to be, make him the heir to the throne of a continent and you really cannot be saying anything negative about him anywhere public.
Sansa chose the neutral option, she is not responsible.
The way I see it is that Sansa is transferring her anger towards her dad since it's not safe for her to rebel against her new in-laws. She probably also hates that he's allowing her to get married into that family.

I think that Tyrion tried to help Bran because aside from relating to him, he had a feeling that his siblings were responsible. In a previous episode, at the table when they were discussing Bran waking up and if he said something, it looked like he suspected it.
Lil fun fact in this episode: Ser Hugh of The Vale, the dude who got killed during the tourney is the same actor who played both Jason and Tyland Lannister in House of The Dragon.

I was devastated to learn this definition as a child and asked my mom if that meant I had been a bastard as a young child and she went "well technically yes" 😩😭

@andrewguenther988 I didn't want to get married (eventually did) to my kids' dad. My mother-in-law told me we needed to get married or my daughter would be a bastard. I said "no, she'll be a bitch cuz she's a girl." 😂😂 I just didn't want a forced marriage due to a child. You can still be great parents and not be married.

Sam is not a natural warrior, but he has the heart of one. He only lacked someone with the compassion to show him the way. Jon was that friend for Sam and Jon never had a more loyal brother.
That line his father said, and what we've learned so far from 21st century research on early childhood development and abuse within the family leads me to believe that the father is the root cause for Sam turning out like that. Because typically the toxic caregiver have specific children that they 'favor' and children they target.
Remember, Little Finger told Cat that the dagger used to try and kill Bran belonged to Tyrion. That's why she took him.
They were so busy talking that they missed it. They might as well not even watch if they're going to keep talking over the show. They'll miss so much.

@@re970 They're a react channel. That comes with the job description. If they wanted to focus on the show they would have be quiet most of the time, if not all of the time. "Reactors" will inevitably miss bits and pieces of what they're watching because it's their job to react. And people can write about those things in the comments if they want and they'll read the comments. It's not a big deal

"Lord Snow" is a bit of an insult. They're moking him because he's high born (Lord), but since he's a bastard (Snow), he isn't the same as most high borns because he can't inherit lands, titles, etc. When they say Lord Snow, they're clownin' him.
I’ve watched dozens of GOT reactions and never before have I seen a single person empathize with Samwell’s father. Wow. That’s crazy.
That’s what I’m saying!!! I was in disbelief. If Sams father had done a better job, his kid probably would have fared better and not been an overweight coward…but no. He failed his kid and his solution was to murder him? And they sympathized with it? Crazy.

Nipple Counts aside, that Sam conversation rationalizing his fathers threats to his life had he stayed home was one of the best conversations on the topic in all the years ive seen reactions to the show. Actually, very few people actually discuss it. Well thought out and articulated, and on the spot too, props my brothas🤙🏾

Sam is great and he definitely has talents that could have made him an effective lord, that his father absolutely failed to encourage. But I actually agree with the guys, at that point in the story he's not a sensible pick for a leadership position (even when the spare is a literal himbo). Sam isn't yet the so much more he could be.

Aidan Gillen who played Lord Petyr Baelish aka "Littlefinger" played Thomas J. "Tommy" Carcetti a city council member who became Mayor of Baltimore in the outstanding HBO drama series 'The Wire'. He's from Ireland and speaks with a thick Irish brogue that is very difficult to understand if you're not familiar with it.
So thankful with how fast these are coming out it’s like I’m binging it for the first time again :)

I noticed that they are very intuitive, though. They clock the situation fast even if the lore may go over their heads sometimes. I think so long as they understand the plot, the deep-dive into world building lore can come later.

I disagree. It seems to me that they are picking up on pretty much everything you would expect for a first time watch. And that’s impressive considering they have in depth and interesting commentary
Young sirs are about to be in that season 1 roller coaster climb. Between the stalwart honorable characters that steal your respect off your chest like a cuban to the shifty rogues that steal it with guile over time like a world class jewel thief. They’re all written so well and believably one way or the other you STILL care. This show is a first ballot goat it’s not even a question.

Littlefinger told Lady Catlyn that he lost the blade to Tyrion. That's why she had Tyrion taken into custody because she thinks he's the one who plotted to murder Bran.
For reference, there are very few Northern Knights because Knights are made in the light of the Seven and in the north they worship the old gods. Lack of Knighthood is nothing against Jory's skill. Just his geography and southern prejudice.
The Mountain is an important character, but there is an actor switch on that character, so it's good to know his name "The Mountain" real name " Sir Gregor Clegane". This way you won't be confused when the actor switch takes place.

you are wrong to give the benefit of the doubt to sams father for saying he was worthless coward.
on the other hand arya is trying to become a warrior/fighter even though she was meant to become a lady/princess. but ned stark her father saw the ambition of his daughter and trying to give her what her wants despite what anybody thinks.
sams father on the other hand wanted his son to become a fighter like his other son even though sam clearly not the type for that. keep in mind sam's not a ordinary guy who has to go through survival situations ever day he was a high born who lived in a castle. he could have become a lord, with the enough education and high learning he could have become a council for a some king like the varys or pycel. but despite all that his father banished him.
Sam's father was right, people like Vaery's got to where there from their hard work and shrewdness, they weren't gifted a lordship. Sam's father can't leave the family's assets to someone who has shown to be weak and timid
i dont know if youve already learnt this, and i also dont know how "bastard" is used irl, but in game of thrones, a bastard is a child of a noble parent born out of wedlock, they are given a last name depending of where theyre raised, jon is from the north so he is called "snow". it is not dictated by being fatherless or motherless, its the "out of wedlock" part that makes them a bastard

As someone who doesn’t know either birth parent, not knowing is probably easier.
Sam was a rich kid. He didn't need to know how to fight.
I think knowing who your parents are, (or as I like to call them, egg and sperm donor) and them not being in your life would hurt more. I was adopted as a baby, so I have no idea who my egg & sperm donor are so it doesn't bother me that much, plus I have the best parents in the world now. However, I did have 2 father figures growing up and ...one chose alcohol over me so he dipped. & that still kinda hurts me to this day. No comment on the other one.

as someone who is also a bastard (born out of wedlock) and whose father has not been involved in my life since I was 10 years old (currently I'm almost 35 years old) I can confirm, I'd rather not know who my father was. Yes, the thoughts can be torturous, but you can also have hope.

Sam's father could have guided him into being a maester, but forbade it because he didn't want his son to serve another man. Sam's father is a POS.
Early on given what is presented so far, it was possible to connect a few dots with help of the books. Before GOT episode 1 was "Robert's Rebellion". The GOT world is a fantasy world with its own history.

Growing up without a father, there were days I wish I had never known who he was, so for me it's hard to say which is better.
