    Thank you so much for posting this very helpful video. I am in the process of doing this job right now on my 2003 Tundra 4.7L V8. There are few significant differences between my truck and the 2002 model in the video I wanted to point out. If you have a 2003 Tundra, it may save you some headaches. I'm really surprised at the differences.
    First, the skid plate is different. No biggie. Easy to figure out.
    Secondly, the AC compressor is way different. You do not have to remove the compressor in my truck. That's a good thing because I cannot loosen one of the compressor mounting bolts because a high pressure line is in the way and it ain't going anywhere. I only had to remove that lower front bracket to gain access to one of the fan bracket assembly bolts. There are two bolts not mentioned in this video necessary to remove the fan bracket. One is above the compressor and you'll have to remove the bracket holding the compressor wiring plug for access. The other is below the front of the compressor accessible after removing the lower front compressor reinforcement bracket (the one with the nut and the bolt). I learned this only after much fussing and searching online. My Tundra factory service manual didn't even get close to mentioning this.
    And that's how I made my way through part one. Closed it up for now and I'll fire up the part 2 video in the morning.

    Great instructional video!! Just completed successfully my timing belt kit replacement on a 2000 Toyota Tundra. Two notes. 1.You don't need to remove the a/c compressor, just the support bracket underneath and the small bracket with the Philips screw so you can get to the two bolts that are bolted into the fan bracket assembly. 2. I split two 2x4 "special tool" down the middle so I switched to a Trex (composite decking wood) 2x4 I had left over from a project and that did the trick as far as getting that stubborn crankshaft bolt loose and re-torqued. Again, great video...gave me the confidence I could do this project myself. Thanks!!!

    I too wanted to Thank You for saving me over $700, your video made this easy. I used it to replace the timing belt & water pump on a 02 Sequoia 4.7. Like most people that go to do things like this you pay attention taking it apart but something does not fit right or even though you lay it out just so something gets moved or well you just can't figure out how this part goes on, so I went back to the video and there is the answer. The locale dealer wanted over $1000 to do the job, my parts cost under $300. The wife is very happy & even though the vehicle has over 250K mile on it, she has NO plans to get rid of it. She LOVES this vehicle.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video, it was such a big help. My husband and I did our water pump and timing belt by ourselves. Our 02 Sequoia had almost 200,000 miles on it and never did change the timing belt. We thought it was our water pump that was making a grinding noise but come to find out is was the fan bracket so we had to change that and a couple other pulleys now it runs good. Thank you once again!

    Thanks for this! I bought your gates kit and following the instructions successfully completed a timing belt / water pump installation with little previous automotive experience. It might be helpful to add 'gasket sealant' to the required materials list, as well as providing dimensions or noting when you have the harmonic balancer off to make the installation tool (2x4). The AC compressor was the hardest part (on and off), but it's obvious why it was difficult to film! Thanks again!

  • @kalivas4695
    @kalivas4695 6 лет назад +1

    Your videos saved me! On reassembly, I had an extra bolt with nut and wasn't sure where it went. Your excellent step by step instructions plainly illustrated it was one of the tensioner assembly bolts.I had mistakenly installed it in center timing belt cover. Now I can finish up my '09 4Runner 4.7. You ROCK!
    The only thing worrying me now is that the new belt marks line up on L:eft Cam with the "T", Right Cam with the "T" , and the dot on the crank. When I line the dot up on the crank with the "CR" on the belt, the top white line of the pulley doesn't perfectly line up with the "|" mark on the crank cover. Oh well, hoping belt marks outweigh the cover mark. If it is off, it's only by one tooth. LOL!

    • @SampsonGG
      @SampsonGG 3 года назад

      What did this look like? Was the marking on the belt positioned to the left, or to the right of the line on the crank cover?
      Did everything work out? Or did you need to do the job twice?

    Thanks for providing such a detailed video on how to properly change the timing belt on the 4.7L tundra truck... I just completed mine and your video on ensuring proper timing belt alignment between the cam sprockets and the camshaft was really helpful since I managed to change the timing on my truck when I used the cam sprocket bolts to turn over the engine.. this resulted in timing belt misalignment.. However, your video which showed how to properly match the timing marks fixed all that.

    Great video! MOST automotive instruction videos are awful...... with bad loud music, or improperly focused and directed cameras, poor lighting, the tech talking about things other than the subject at hand, doing the procedure incorrectly, or any combination of the above. This one is first rate. Thoroughly professional. Not only a pleasure to watch, but completely meets the video's objectives.

    Normally most vehicles have a transmission line going from the transmission to one of the plastic caps on the side of the radiator. Some trucks on the other hand come with a transmission cooler in front of the radiator. It is normally small, only about the size of a not pad and about as thick as on radiator core.

    I'm having trouble getting the fan assembly off (What you're doing at 6:44 in the video). I've shook and wiggled it as hard as I could and it wouldn't budge. I then attempted to chisel in between the area where it mounts and that didn't help either. Any ideas? I'm wondering if loosening the tension in the drive belt first would make any difference?

    I'm mechanically inclined but never done major engine work. Can't afford the $1500+ it is going to cost for timing belt for a while (been out of work), is this something I can do with help? This behemoth is going to require me to work on a step ladder! I've done a coolant flush, which is the first step, and fan belts, but never more in depth than that. I'm not scared though... just short on cash for a while and already at 130k miles.

    Does the truck have protection if the belt breaks

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  6 лет назад

      +Dark angle Hello, there can be multiple issues and damages that can occur if you operate you vehicle while a part is not functioning correctly. We would not advise driving if you have a broken belt. Have a good day! 1aauto.com

      These are interference engines meaning without proper timing valves and pistons would collide rendering the whole engine useless, the cost for new heads valves pistons etc. would not be worth the value of the car. So long story short spend a grand at the shop or a few hundred bucks if you do it yourself now or wait and get the car towed to the scrap yard when the belt breaks

    Would this apply to the 2003 Toyota Sequoia as well?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  7 лет назад

      +Jarrod Smith The process for the Sequoia should be similar, although there may be slight differences based on the overall vehicle design. We may confirm the parts are the same between these two models with the 4.7L engine. www.1aauto.com/timing-belt-kit-with-water-pump-gates-tckwp298/i/gaeek00022?f=481852&y=2003
