    I have always wanted to make a log cabin quilt. I really didn't understand how to use the ruler, and not to mention that they come in different sizes. I wanted to use up my jelly roll strips that I had also, and I am so happy that I found your video. It is easy to understand, and you explained how to use the ruler. I just ordered the ruler, and am excited to use up all my scrap pieces. I am glad that you said "Nobody's perfect", because my sewing isn't perfect with my bad eyesight. At least the ruler and the extra fabric will keep me somewhat more in the ball park. Thank you so much for this video!

    Thank you so much for the help! Just spent money on both log cabin rulers and then to find out the directions have no length requirements, I ended up disgusted after throwing strips away that I had cut wrong! You’d think creative grid would realize their are new quilters and making that experience easier would be their goal! Very disgusted with creative grid right now! Thank you so much for your help on this video! After watching your video I am going to give it another try today! Once again Thank You!

    Thank you Wendy for this tutorial. I’ve had this ruler and it has just sat on my ruler board for years! But I found your tutorial today & I used this ruler for the very first time today. My log cabin block turned out beautiful. You are an excellent teacher. Now maybe I will make more blocks and do a table runner. 😊

    Thank you soooo much. I just threw away two jelly roll blocks because I could not figure out this ruler (who wrote those instructions?? not a quilter). YOur tips really helped. #1. I needed to make a mock-up first and cut my jelly roll strips. 2. You helped me see how I added strips to the wrong side. #3. White squares-- who knew, thanks.

      LOL!! Oh I totally understand your pain! You are right, that ruler is not intuitive and instructions are worthless. If you send me an email I'll forward you my template with the numbers/strip lengths needed. I could have sworn I already had a link for people to get it, but apparently not. 😭 I'll be getting that fixed in a bit. Also... just now started a second video for the 6" block. Should be out in early October. Take care and thanks for watching!! Glad you found it helpful.

    You’re a riot: honest and straight up! This was a very helpful video, but it would be great to know about it in your log cabin block tutorial. Absolutely NOT a criticism, since I discovered the need to trim as I constructed the block on my own. Finding this tutorial make me realize I was on the right track! With you as my guide! Thanks!

    I have sewn clothing for about 60 years, now I have decided I need to quit. I have made 2 baby quilts with just squares, bluffed my way through a couple of panels for my sisters, and now I know everything there is to know about quilting. Yeah right! Your tutorial on using this ruler is a master piece, I wouldn’t order it because just looking at it there was no way, it will be here Tuesday, I can’t wait I already have my strips ready. I would also like to thank you for "doing the math" and giving us the length of the strips. I can't believe that Creative Grids did not do this. I now see where there is an additional page on the website for the 12" block lengths, but still nothing for the 6" option. I'm with you and want my strips cut before I start. I also wasn't sure about the larger center block and almost blew it off, but I do like how easily it squares the block. From what I understand log cabins can go very wonky if this is not paid attention to. Would love if you could "do the math" for the 6" one. You are a good teacher...thanks again.

      I happened to look at creative grids 6 inch log cabin trim tool and their center block is not the same size as the one in my bigger ruler with a 12 inch and 6 inch. They do give measurements for that but I can’t imagine that they are exactly right since the center block is a different size. Weird. Thanks for your extremely fast response.

    • @WendyJHaney
      @WendyJHaney  2 года назад +1

      Hmm... that is interesting. I think I might have the 6 inch ruler also, as I didn't realize they both were on the 12 inch. I'll dig them both out and see what I can figure out. Last night was quilt night with my neighbor and I had to get a baby quilt done. I'll check this out and we'll figure it out.

    • @BB-jx8iz
      @BB-jx8iz 2 года назад +1

      No rush. This isn’t really your problem, but I do have issues with the designer…as I watched you trim all the little tags off, I knew I’d be doing the same thing…in fact, I would cut to the precise size instead of adding the half inch. I know you did that to show the use of the ruler. Anyway, thanks for replying and please take your time or don’t worry about it. :-)

    I love your videos. Your instructions are clear, precise, easy to understand and you manage to make everything "doable" regardless of skill level. I am a seasoned sewist but new quilter and have not yet attempted log cabin blocks. I will definately watch you jelly roll log cabin video and will likely purchase this ruler. Thank you so much for all your efforts. One question, can you make that template you used showing the strip demensions available as a free pdf download? That would be very useful.

    What is the advantage of cutting the strips a half inch extra? Aren't you wasting fabric?🤔 Just curious....not meant as criciscim.

    • @WendyJHaney
      @WendyJHaney  2 года назад +1

      because it gives you room to trim it and square it up. If you're really good with straight seams and a good 1/4" seam, then go with the exact size you need. This ruler is meant to allow you to have more room for trimming and squaring up to get more exact in the end. Otherwise - I agree, you do waste more fabric with this method.
