It’s such a shame the moas are all gone. There’s not a single species of them left alive today and they were around as recently as a few hundred years ago. Equally as tragic was the fact that their extinction also led to the extinction of the Haast’s Eagle which fed almost exclusively on the moas.
Ohhh ahhhhhhh
We can't blame the condition at that time. The people needed food to survive, and they overhunted Moa for food... Besides, animal conservation program did not exist at that time...
True, but scientists could try to bring them back. Typically if an animal has been extinct for so long, there is a point where they can't possibly be cloned, but considering there are Moa specimens from 500-600 years ago which is very very recent in terms of fossils, they would be easier to bring back than lets say the Wooly Mammoth.
@@ericscott9029 yes, but I think it will create another species, not exactly the same species. Because from what I read, scientist would do that to their relatives. So, the newborn baby would be the combination of two species. Am I right?
Se can still clone them

Fun fact, kiwis are ratites, just like rhea, emu, and ostrich. Go and see the size of those birds, then look at the size of the kiwi. The kiwi lays a single egg that is only marginally smaller than an ostrich egg. That right there is unfair.
Ikr it's crazy that a small bird lays such a giant egg relative to it's size they must have one of the worst births in the animal kingdom

Speaking of flightless birds, can you pls do a (non-avian) dinosaur size comparison?

@@Mikailodon But birds are avian dinosaurs, not non-avian.

You forgot the Inaccessible Island rail (Laterallus rogersi). It's the smallest flightless bird in the world, measuring 13 to 15.5 cm (5.1-6.1 in).
I actually made a comment about this myself without having realized that you already had made one.
@@jasonertle4185 chill dawg indeed a lot of us know it
Fascinating as always!
For reference, the inaccessible island rail is the smallest flightless bird in the world at just 13-15.5 cm long and has a mass of just 35-49 grams. That should’ve been put in this video.

I doubt that they had only spears.
Throwing spears would be a better option. You don't have to get within biting or kicking range of the bird that way.

Also, even though Brontornis is heavier than Kelenken, Kelenken is still taller. But anyway, this video is great.

Question: why did the moa bird die?
I was sad when the moa died, it was a favorite bird in the Exctinct days. I hope it lives today, it has a lot of different moa birds :(
Hunted to extinction by the early Maori the moa was native to New Zealand
@@dancing-spaghetti and from that came the Haast's eagle extinction too as its main food source got wiped out

I'll admit it, I'm hooked on these videos
A lot of them have recently become extinct :(
🌸.+Because they abused too many humans+.🌸
flightless birds are so helpless against humans because they can’t fly and avoid humans that’s why many went extinct very recently.
@@LastBrigadiez It's not just because of humans. A lot of the smaller flightless birds were getting completely destroyed by dogs and cats and became extinct because of them. Who would have thought that our pets could cause such a disaster?

I love your videos, but can you please use a different font and color? I have a very hard time reading the words.
Amazing video as always
Nicely edited video, with sound effects.
Wait what I thought the elephant bird was the largest bird in existence???
yeah
It probably is, but there is some confusion in the popular science media. The most popular elephant bird is Aepyornis maximus, the one commonly said to exceed 500kg. There is a lesser known bird, Vorombe titan (6:11 in video), part of the same elephant bird family, that has been estimated to exceed 720kg and is just as tall.
@tf_ uwu
Vorombe is part of the elephant bird family. This distinction gets lost in most media.
@tf_ uwu v. Titan is one species within the family

If you're gonna do something like this by height, then the Giant Moa should be at the top. Both were more then capable of lifting their heads to 3.6 meters in height.

and the majority went extinct within 1000 years
