The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.

After eighty years of listening to music I will state that she is the greatest vocal artist of all time. No one can cross the genres she has already done by age fifteen. There is others who may be superior technically but none can emote the feelings she creates within the listener with each song she sings.

One more point about Angelina-she sounds like she did in this song because that’s the voice and style she chose to give us authentic old school blues. Her voice and talent is incredibly flexible. Watch Bohemian Rhapsody to hear something completely different-and absolutely stunning. But since you like blues-go right to her cover of Etta James “I’d Rather Go Blind”. No production-just Angelina at 13 with a mic and a music track giving us 1960’s soul right from Detroit. You’ve never heard anyone like Angelina.
She was doing a tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins here, and it's amazing. I have heard a later version by her which I can't locate right now which is not as raw, but I'm happy to hear her back off a bit. I don't want her to damage that amazing voice. I'm waiting with great anticipation to see what she and Republic come up with. She's been releasing some covers (mostly Adele) but the few originals she's released are absolutely my favorites so I'm excited for what's coming.

I probably shouldn't say anything before you see Angelina's version of "I'd Rather Go Blind", but… well, just be prepared for a _much_ less "theatrical" approach from her (compared to Rachel's). As Ugo has already pointed out, she sang the song sitting on a couch at home, but even if she was in front of a huge crowd, I don't think she would do it any differently (well, except that she would be standing ;). She likes to put all of the focus on her vocals, and none (or very little) on "playing to the crowd". (I should point out, I don't mean this to be a criticism of Rachel's performance - given the circumstances, she was wise to use "every arrow in her quiver", as it were. It's just not Angelina's style to give that kind of performance.) For another example of what I'm talking about - in a somewhat more apples-to-apples comparison - see 13-year-old Carly Rose Sonenclar's "Feeling Good" audition on _X Factor_ (easy enough to find with a search) versus 10-year-old Angelina's performance of the same song live on _The Stream Gir Tilbake_ (on her Official channel - the same one "I Put a Spell on You" is on). Angelina's approach is not completely devoid of any "crowd pleasing", of course (that climax…), but it's clear that her priorities are completely different from Carly's. And it's not just that Angelina was not in a competition whereas Carly was. This will be made clear when you see her run on _Norway's Got Talent_ [Norske Talenter]: four songs in four rounds, and not a single belted note (and come to think of it, not a single step taken on stage while she was singing, either [LOL]). OBTW, you might notice something else about Angelina's "I'd Rather Go Blind" video: the take we are watching her sing doesn't match the audio take we are hearing - in other words, it appears to have been "lip synced" (this is most obvious at one point where we hear her sing the word "boy" as her mouth is wide open). AFAICT, this is the only cover she did that way (not counting the most recent "music videos" she's done under the auspices of Republic Records, since it's becoming very difficult to tell the difference between stuff "sung live" vs. not). There are a few other (pre-2020) covers of hers where it's pretty obvious that multiple audio takes have been used, but in those cases the audio and video seem to match through most of the video, with just a few points of mismatch here and there (thus, edited but not "lip synced"). But the vast majority of videos we've gotten of her singing through the years have been single, uninterrupted takes, whether recorded at home or performed on stage (or in rehearsal spaces, etc.). There are literally _hundreds_ of such videos. Anyway, looking forward to your next AJ reaction…
You love blues as much as I do. I grew up down south so I know what you mean. I think its why I adore Angelina so much. I am a huge Billie Holiday, Nina Samone, Etta James, Elle Fitzgerald fan. If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. She is equally comfortable and equally able to impact us whether singing a cappella, accompanied only by a piano or guitar, in front of professional studio musicians or a 40 piece military band. I think that everyone, when listening to the first verse, thought the same as you, 9 years? Impossible, and as the song progressed, my mouth opened so wide that I could fit a can of beer, and the end a cappella ... Personally I think it is the most amazing video clip I have ever seen (sorry Michael), a chimpanzee playing a Mozart sonata with boxer gloves, it wouldn't have been so in awe.

I have just recently found you. I love your reactions. Angelina has true talent! She is a singer from long ago. They could sing! Ay! You did it. I've been waiting 8 hours on this. I saw the notification jsut as i was about to head out. Been looking forward to this all day. Loved the reaction. Didn't even know you was that into blues and that this was one of your all time favorites that was just a happy accident. So her grandmother lived with Angelina and her family and used to play jazz for her and that is where she got all her jazz from and. She is Norwegian, born in oslo. And this is actually her 3rd or 4th language. She speak farsi (mothers side) and im pretty sure she speaks abit of Japanese too. (her dads side) but i might be wrong. I know she has done a a song in Japan in Japanese. This was awesome. Wasn't sure if it was your kind of thing..i got goosebumps several times during this. And i don't get goosebumps that often anymore. This girl can sing anything, she done everything from Michael Jackson to Adele to Etta James to Billie Holiday to Elvis. And it seems so effortless. Yes she does alot of her arrangements herself and i believe when she was writing she was changing the notes for the song (at least thats what people have said to me) Also i dont know if you noticed but she is not wearing shoes or socks. There is a whole story behind that and i seen someone already write that in the comments so im not gonna make you read more then you have to (A alan Schecherly wrote the story about whh she is not wearing shoes) . She also wrote a story about it and published a book about it called mellom to hjerter (between two hearts) and is the youngest to ever publish a book in Norway by the age of 9 years old. Angelina Jordan was 10 singing I put a spell on you. You really need to go back and watch Norways got talent in 2011 she was 7 yrs old and won that season. By going back to that time you can follow her progress. She is a true prodigy writing her own songs, publishing a book, speaking several languages, I am 70 in march and have enjoyed following her progress. She also plays the piano, guitar, and several instruments.
There's many up and coming young singers / artists out there...But in my opinion, and I'm 59, Angelina Jordan is head and shoulders above all of them. Something is truly unique and special about her. You have no idea what you just stumbled on. That was recorded almost 7 years ago when she was a little girl. In a few days (Jan 10th) she turns 16 & she has really grown up & I mean up (6'1" tall). Her voice is fully mature, even though she has another decade until she reaches her full development. That blows my mind. Her latest cover is Adele's current hit, Easy on Me. No, this is not what she sounds like ALL the time. This is one of her "1000 voices". If you are really impressed by her singing, listen to her beginning at NGT when she was 7 and won when she was 8. At 6 she sounded totally different in the studio compare to her performances on NGT.

I think I have watched this reaction at least 30 times. It's so amazing. I can see "the music" in your body& eyes. She also has a number of originals. You could go a little further in time and listen to ‘Feeling good’ at big indoor TV show, You could also go in any direction you want and just pick whatever catches your interest: there are very few bad choices :-)

Her version of I’d rather go blind has a touch (tiniest bit really) of emotion and vocal fry to it. Another spell was cast by 9 yo Angelina. Let’s analyze the video: 1st you see how small and cute she is. 2nd you see she is barefoot (story below) 3rd You see her making her “Wish List” of suggested changes to the song. 4th the band leader taking note of the changes. 5th Angelina is holding a candle with “Screemin’ Jay Hawkin’s (original artist 1956) picture on it. 6th the old soul in her voice. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

I have watched Angelina from age of 7 years and no matter what age or what genre, she has over 150 covers, she is masterful with how she sings you will enjoy the ride, and her followers are some of the nicest people you can meet and Angelina has a heart of gold "stories you are sure to hear" and is surrounded by a family that is there for her beautiful people.
I just found Angelina a year ago and I have still not listened to all her songs. Lol. I love watching reaction channels and seeing their videos when she sings it’s so fun. Nope she was groomed on the mean streets of Oslo, Norway. English at that time wasn't even second. She is Persian Japanese on her mothers side and she is Swedish on her father's side. She started making, "wishes" to her band leaders when she was six. Angelina picks all her own music and devours the song that she finds fun to sing. Then she will think about how a song could go. I imagine that she will sing this so much around figuring out what if she did this here or that there. A song is only ready when she feels that all the components of the song are as honed and sharp as it can be. When this came out it only hinted at the amount of talent this youngster was and does possess.

Actually i think this is one of her best live Performances.The only A.J Performance with a guitarsolo as far as i know. At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.

4. Enters school at four and starts learning music in after school program.

6. At five she try’s to audition for Norway’s Got Talent but is told she is too young and must be seven.
7. At five tells her Mother she wants to sing at the Nobel Piece Prize Concert.
8. At six travels to the Middle East where the legend begins of why she does not ware shoes.

After eighty years of listening to music I will state that she is the greatest vocal artist of all time. No one can cross the genres she has already done by age fifteen. There is others who may be superior technically but none can emote the feelings she creates within the listener with each song she sings.

One more point about Angelina-she sounds like she did in this song because that’s the voice and style she chose to give us authentic old school blues. Her voice and talent is incredibly flexible. Watch Bohemian Rhapsody to hear something completely different-and absolutely stunning. But since you like blues-go right to her cover of Etta James “I’d Rather Go Blind”. No production-just Angelina at 13 with a mic and a music track giving us 1960’s soul right from Detroit. You’ve never heard anyone like Angelina.
I figured that from the start. Defitely a throwback style.. A nodd to the original and the blues styling in general. Very dope and classy.
She was doing a tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins here, and it's amazing. I have heard a later version by her which I can't locate right now which is not as raw, but I'm happy to hear her back off a bit. I don't want her to damage that amazing voice.

I probably shouldn't say anything before you see Angelina's version of "I'd Rather Go Blind", but… well, just be prepared for a _much_ less "theatrical" approach from her (compared to Rachel's). As Ugo has already pointed out, she sang the song sitting on a couch at home, but even if she was in front of a huge crowd, I don't think she would do it any differently (well, except that she would be standing ;). She likes to put all of the focus on her vocals, and none (or very little) on "playing to the crowd". (I should point out, I don't mean this to be a criticism of Rachel's performance - given the circumstances, she was wise to use "every arrow in her quiver", as it were. It's just not Angelina's style to give that kind of performance.) For another example of what I'm talking about - in a somewhat more apples-to-apples comparison - see 13-year-old Carly Rose Sonenclar's "Feeling Good" audition on _X Factor_ (easy enough to find with a search) versus 10-year-old Angelina's performance of the same song live on _The Stream Gir Tilbake_ (on her Official channel - the same one "I Put a Spell on You" is on). Angelina's approach is not completely devoid of any "crowd pleasing", of course (that climax…), but it's clear that her priorities are completely different from Carly's. And it's not just that Angelina was not in a competition whereas Carly was. This will be made clear when you see her run on _Norway's Got Talent_ [Norske Talenter]: four songs in four rounds, and not a single belted note (and come to think of it, not a single step taken on stage while she was singing, either [LOL]).
OBTW, you might notice something else about Angelina's "I'd Rather Go Blind" video: the take we are watching her sing doesn't match the audio take we are hearing - in other words, it appears to have been "lip synced" (this is most obvious at one point where we hear her sing the word "boy" as her mouth is wide open). AFAICT, this is the only cover she did that way (not counting the most recent "music videos" she's done under the auspices of Republic Records, since it's becoming very difficult to tell the difference between stuff "sung live" vs. not). There are a few other (pre-2020) covers of hers where it's pretty obvious that multiple audio takes have been used, but in those cases the audio and video seem to match through most of the video, with just a few points of mismatch here and there (thus, edited but not "lip synced"). But the vast majority of videos we've gotten of her singing through the years have been single, uninterrupted takes, whether recorded at home or performed on stage (or in rehearsal spaces, etc.). There are literally _hundreds_ of such videos.

You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (135+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse (and many others in between) and do them all justice!
If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. She is equally comfortable and equally able to impact us whether singing a cappella, accompanied only by a piano or guitar, in front of professional studio musicians or a 40 piece military band. With her immense vocal toolkit, arranging ability (yeah, that too, since about 8yo or so) and the work ethic to make what she does only 'seem' effortless, she will hopefully be touching hearts for a long time to come.
Why God has performed the miracle of touching the world with one of such talent, musical IQ, commitment, and generosity as Angelina we can wonder but we must all marvel. Welcome aboard the AJ train! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities.

Like your grandmother, Angelina’s grandmother played jazz from the time Angelina was a babe in her arms, and then there was the device she was given as so many children are to pacify and amuse herself,quickly learning how to find Adele and other artists this was the beginning of her musical exposure then educating. Sir, Angelina studies all genres of music and performing arts since age of 4, YES, at the academies of Oslo/Norway and now LA. Singing, more or less, she does since the age of 18 MONTHS. Because of her Ancestry she speaks fluently Swedish (Father and Family), Norwegian (mom), Farsi (Grandma is a Iranian Artist) an Japanese (Grandmas husband was a Japanese Gentleman) and also English. In school she learned a bit of German and French (she is so humble about it.LOL.) As Mr Ole Olson will tell you, She was gifted with a beautiful swanlike neck that holds a larynx, that is slitely bigger than normal humans have, nothing freaky, SHE puts this to excellent use by talent and hard, hard training in her craft. It is said, that she gathered money for charitable causes about between 20 to 30 Million USD. Musicians around the world adore her today. Angelina Jordan is today a household Brand. I think that everyone, when listening to the first verse, thought the same as you, 9 years? Impossible, and as the song progressed, my mouth opened so wide that I could fit a can of beer, and the end a cappella ... Personally I think it is the most amazing video clip I have ever seen (sorry Michael), a chimpanzee playing a Mozart sonata with boxer gloves, it wouldn't have been so in awe.

Another great reaction to Angelina, whom I consider to be one of the most soulful singers in music today regardless of age. You asked about some of her later music, apart from the fact that everything Angelina has sung is gold, I would suggest a 13 year old Angelina paying tribute to the Whitney Houston classic "I have nothing" or one of Angelina's latest releases a cover of Adele s " Easy on me" . The great thing about Angelina is that she always pays homage to the original artists but adds in her own interpretation to the song in which many times surpasses the original.🥰

She is Norwegian, born in oslo. And this is actually her 3rd or 4th language. She speak farsi (mothers side) and im pretty sure she speaks abit of Japanese too. (her dads side) but i might be wrong. I know she has done a a song in Japan in Japanese.

And her own song that she wrote called *million miles* which she wrote to her grandfather who passed away is beautiful. And her grandmother is an artist and actually made the art for one of the music videos of that song. But her live studio version is better in my opinion.

Angelina Jordan was 10 singing I put a spell on you. You really need to go back and watch Norways got talent in 2011 she was 7 yrs old and won that season. By going back to that time you can follow her progress. She is a true prodigy writing her own songs, publishing a book, speaking several languages, I am 70 in march and have enjoyed following her progress. She also plays the piano, guitar, and several instruments.

No, this is not what she sounds like ALL the time. This is one of her "1000 voices". If you are really impressed by her singing, listen to her beginning at NGT when she was 7 and won when she was 8. At 6 she sounded totally different in the studio compare to her performances on NGT.

You could go a little further in time and listen to ‘Feeling good’ at big indoor TV show, You could also go in any direction you want and just pick whatever catches your interest: there are very few bad choices :-)

She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.
She is outstanding. and to be this good sooo young. Simply amazing!

I have watched Angelina from age of 7 years and no matter what age or what genre, she has over 150 covers, she is masterful with how she sings you will enjoy the ride, and her followers are some of the nicest people you can meet and Angelina has a heart of gold "stories you are sure to hear" and is surrounded by a family that is there for her beautiful people.
I just found Angelina a year ago and I have still not listened to all her songs. Lol. I love watching reaction channels and seeing their videos when she sings it’s so fun. Nope she was groomed on the mean streets of Oslo, Norway. English at that time wasn't even second. She is Persian Japanese on her mothers side and she is Swedish on her father's side. She started making, "wishes" to her band leaders when she was six. Angelina picks all her own music and devours the song that she finds fun to sing. Then she will think about how a song could go. I imagine that she will sing this so much around figuring out what if she did this here or that there. A song is only ready when she feels that all the components of the song are as honed and sharp as it can be. When this came out it only hinted at the amount of talent this youngster was and does possess.
This girls ear is incredible! To hear what it should sound like in her head and then give that to the band is Michael Jackson like. That is just raw talent.

Theres no autotuning just her magical voice. She is one of few to walk in studio drop the song in one take and call it a day. Im convinced she will redefine music for future generations and we may need to create a new term for what she is capable of.

@@truedarkseed she also performs a mean James Brown Its a Mans World at age 11 or 12 at a concert. The quality isnt studio but with her voice you dont need any of that.

You will like her jazz version of Billy Jean. Then her" still holding out for You. She did "I Would Rather Go Blind" She did many songs based on others recordings, but you cannot call them covers. They are so different from the originals. She remakes them. She did Bohemian Rhapsody of AGT and it is almost unrecognizable from Queen.
