I'm an Interior Designer, and I would love for you to use the space under the kitchen window for benches with storage. It serves for more seating in your kitchen, frames in the wall ♥️
@@KJABurchI was also worried about this. And the TV, they both need to breathe and can get very hot especially in the summertime. Maybe some little vent type things in the wood on top of the fridge at least to give the heat the ability to escape. Or maybe even a vent to the outside I don't know if that would be counterproductive. I just know that appliances of any kind can get hot and if they do they will overheat and stop working.
I was thinking the same thing..if you don't leave it room to breath in the back and sides..it will burn up the compressor..with years and wisdom you learn this..💞 Why not put the TV on the wall to the right that you have the faux brick on..just a thought..
No TV in the kitchen it's time to talk while cooking and eating, that's how my parents had it. That's how I have always had it in my home. Growing up I always said I would do things different to my parents, when I look back I'm doing some of the same things. Lol
If kids are out at school then I agree but as a home school mom I can assure you that me and my kids talk for the whole day and every day, a TV in the kitchen isn't going to change that one little bit in fact it's shared downtime. xx
It’s beautiful! You won’t be able to clean underneath, or finish your floor, but also, your refrigerator will need air getting to it, we have a friend who works on appliances and he told us refrigerators need space and air from the wall or they won’t last!
I don't want to sound negative, as you both do such an awesome job with your renovations. But tv's and fridges need to have ventilation around them so they don't over heat.😉
Merina your kitchen is looking so nice. I wanted to tell you something. When I first found your channel, it took me by surprise. I lost my sister to cancer three years ago. Hey guys. I sent you a comment back when you were screening in your porch. We have pets and screens have to be replaced constantly. So when we built our new porch we went to Lowe’s and bought a roll of hardware cloth. It’s a metal screening that is each enough to see out of. You cut it to size, staple it up like the screen and then cut your screen to fit over the hardware cloth. Then you can go ahead and do your finishing work on the outside with no worries. Our first porch was built in 1990 and is still very much working. Our latest porch was built in 2007 and is in like new condition. When Shane was doing the screening I had to chuckle because I knew he would be doing it over again and again until he found hardware cloth. It’s an added safety feature as well. Good luck. Love you guys

Reminds me of my California teen years in our yellow breakfast nook. Momma serving Daddy and my brothers breakfast while I’d grab a biscuit and sausage to go with my perked coffee with the news featuring Vietnam right into our kitchen. Years later when the WONDER YEARS came on it felt nostalgic because me and the Wonder Years boy were right in sync.
Please please please put out a very long video on November 5th so we don't have to hear about the election all evening, but have something lovely and funny to occupy our minds.
Hi Merina. Just wanted to say that I appreciate the kind of parents that you and Shane are. Your kids are happy, secure and loved. I had none of those things as a child. It brings a smile to my face whenever I watch your interaction and hear the kids laughing in the background sometimes. Bless you
Okay I don't want to be a Debbie downer but I have a question? I love the idea of the fridge surround build and looks great so far. But have you considered the accessibility to move it for cleaning behind and under? I don't know just asking? It looked like Shayne placed the top frame work directly on the top of the fridge. In that case the fridge would be hard to move.
God bless you both. Baby girl did you think about if you had to get the refrigerator out or how heard it might be. I do love it. I have enjoyed this very much thank you both God bless all of you 🙏❤️🌹
I've always wanted a TV in the kitchen and I think it is fabulous you are adding one to your kitchen. Great idea for the kids to watch cartoons while they eat breakfast. The enclosure is going to look so good when finished, can't wait to see it. The ducklings are adorable!
Hey guys! Awesome job. You may want to put wood all around the bottom of the porch then run the screen up. You can do it so you can still see out. That’s how ours was.
Merina, you need this to glue pieces vertical (Loctite Power Grab Express Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive) when I did board and batten down my hall, none of the boards moved! This adhesive is awesome! Just a little FI
The TV is so high up and far back on top of the fridge that even when sitting at the island, you're not going to see the full screen, especially if you're a kid and don't sit up as high
and actually since the tv had legs it could have set up on top of the tv closer to the frknt and the frame built around it. Good velcro on the bottom of the feet/legs of the tv would have kept such a light tv in place, and would have made it easier to see…closer to the front, it would not have had to be angles down i dont think…it’s a creatine though
Good job - I love the idea. I have a question…doesn’t the refrigerator need some ventilation so it doesn’t over heat? I don’t think you should totally enclose it. I could be wrong with the newer refrigerators but I know the older ones alway needed ventilation. Next time when you are at Lowe’s or Hime Depot - you might want to ask someone in that department.
Yes! I'm a designer, and even with new refrigerators they need some ventilation. Without proper ventilation, your refrigerator will have to work harder, and can burn out the fan
Hey Marina, How's your grandma and 'em? Love you beautiful. You guys always make me happy. May I suggest that you move the fridge to the other side of the window? You can do whatever you want but that will give you room for some more lower cabinets OR You could just put the tv a little lower, eye level, and make that area a top for a desk and computer. I would use the TV for that as well. Ok I'm gonna finish watching. You both inspire me!~
Taking cheap roller paper towels spread them out on top of your refrigerator and when you go to clean it again. All the dust will be on the top of the paper towels and then you can throw it away
Question? when you guys' seat on the chairs by the island, are you guys able to see the entire frame of the tv? I hope your kids and both of you won't end up with neck pain after a while. but beside my question, is looking amazing. Love it!
Merina and Shane. Have y’all thought about making a big table and use that extra space for a dining room? A sitting room sounds sad. And even though you might only use it for Thanxgiving, Christmas, Easter, birthdays, summer get togethers, and such, it will be well worth it when Nan can come and sit at the table at your house. And just make the area left by the fridge can be a much better sitting room. Just a thought. Love you all!!
2 concerns with this build: 1. shouldn't there be a little air flow for the back of the fridge? and how you going to clean behind there occasionally? 2. boxing in the TV may shorten its life when it gets too warm, again due to no air circulation. Just wondering?
Yes, I came here to say this. The fridge is not going to cool properly because it needs airflow in the back. It will build up heat back there and overheat. The same goes with the tv. It will overheat and quit working long before it should without proper airflow.
I have to agree with the others about the fridge (and tv) having to breathe. QUESTION: Why not put a board at the front of the "box" and attach the tv to that? This way the tv will be closer to the front of the fridge and everyone will be able to see it (and the bottom edge) better. : )
really cool idea to put the TV above the refrigerator but as sometime wasted space or becomes a junk area 😊 Also… A little trick I use to remember horizontal and vertical is by thinking of ‘the horizon’ and sunrise or sunset. 🌅 Because in my mind I can automatically remember which direction that goes 😂
I can’t wait to see the whole thing finished. Shane is a talented man. It seems he can do anything. You know how lucky you are. I don’t have to say it. Youall compliment each other. But, I had to pause and send this message to you. On that TV you bought please purchase the insurance or get another brand. I have bought Black Friday TV’s for the last 20 years. I have never had a dud TV in all this time. I buy TV’s when they are on sale so when a TV goes out I don’t have to pay full price. Well, I got the Onn 75 inch TV. It was used less than 1.5 years. But, it died early. I have never had one do this. Well, I saw I had a 2 year warranty. So, I called them and they had me on the floor looking for numbers the size of pepper. Turn it this way blah blah. I did it because I just knew they were going to replace it. Well, just so you know they had me do this do that unplug it and somehow get the power out of something. Anyway, I did it. They said ok we will be letting you know about your warranty and the replacement TV. The part to fix it would not pay for itself. We took it apart and its literally a black piece of plastic paper and a super thin sheet of plexiglass or something. Well, they refused to pay or replace anything. They said because of the date on the back it was over the 2 year mark. They would do nothing. Click. I googled online and it had 1000’s of people complaining about how the TV makes it to the 2 year mark and dies. Something about a sensor or such only lasts 2 years. They know this before they sell them to you. And if you dont take the Walmart insurance then you are out of luck. I had a family member complain about the surround sound doing the same thing. I have never bought the insurance as all of my other TV’s has lasted or still is working just fine. This is the first time I have had a problem. Outsmart them for me and purchase the warranty please. Make them pay for their crappy product….😅
🌸 Just a thought…. If you lay the floor around the refrigerator, you won’t be able to move it to clean behind it. Better to do the floor and put the fridge on top of it, so it can be moved to clean and service. The coils on fridges need to be cleaned occasionally. …🌸. Another thought, since your fridge is so tall, and they always get dusty, put a sheet or two of wax paper on the top, so when it’s cleaning time, just change the wax paper.
I've been telling my husband I want put small TV in my kitchen so I can watch some RUclips while I wash dishes (by hand ..bc nope I dont have a dishwasher lol) and while I cook dinner! And my wall is blocking me from seeing it in livingroom but I can hear it but sometimes I want to see what's going on too lol😂
I have one on my island and that’s what I do. I listen to RUclips videos while I cook and clean up. I would go crazy without it lol. Although we don’t have one in our living room so the kitchen is it for me.
@@lori3967 I've pretty much begged them to fence the property. Especially with Coyotes. Not only to protect the animals but the children too. I'm afraid something bad is going to happen and it will be too late.
I would clean the top of my fridge every week cuz of we lived near a dusty farm so I started putting a plastic like Sara wrap or what ever to cover the top. Cha vex it out every 2 weeks. Easy peasy. O more ha ing to scrub top of fridge every few days or so.
Great job, yall. I would never think to put a tv over the fridge. I would just sit at the bar wanting to wat h tv as i ate. Lol, duuuu. Great thinking. The kids will love that.
Good idea for the tv in the kitchen. I do think it needs to have air flow so that the frig doesn't overheat. Maybe put the TV on the other side of the window. Just a thought. Your little fur babies are so cute. 🙏♥️🌴
Something to consider......the remote for a TV has to point at the little sensor that's close to along the bottom of a TV. You might want to double-check that the remote will work when pointing it at the TV from various areas in the kitchen/from the island otherwise it's possible the only way the remote will work is if you're standing right in front of the fridge and reaching your arm up above the top of the fridge and pointing it at the base of the TV
I don't have a TV in my kitchen, wish I did, but I have an Alexa Show... And it's awesome! I can play music on it whenever I want, youtube, or pop on a cooking show. Perfect.

My friends. Maybe in the right corner on the right side of the fridge. Catty corner it. Just an idea. Love you both. ❤❤
Please please please put out a very long video on November 5th so we don't have to hear about the election all evening, but have something lovely and funny to occupy our minds.

Another great one Merina and Shane.
So Merina when are you getting your pantry done? Would love to see that next
You guys are so smart and God Bless your family 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
Just a little FI
most of the time when when people use liquid nails…they clamp the wood until it drys…or use other but then use brad nails too
The TV is so high up and far back on top of the fridge that even when sitting at the island, you're not going to see the full screen, especially if you're a kid and don't sit up as high
and actually since the tv had legs it could have set up on top of the tv closer to the frknt and the frame built around it.
I was thinking the same thing. Does the TV produce heat, also. Just asking.
Yes! I'm a designer, and even with new refrigerators they need some ventilation. Without proper ventilation, your refrigerator will have to work harder, and can burn out the fan
You guys are right, they need 1/2 in.-1in.on each side and 1-2 in. in the back, shouldn't build it right up to the refrig.
@@karencary3312 new Tv's don't produce that much heat, but still need ventilation.
I was wondering too about a little ventilation.
I have a 75" and a 34" Onn TV from Walmart and they work great! They are smart tv's.
You and Shane can do anything very creative ❣️
Love the new enclosure. Love your new ducklings too..God sure gave you a creative loving heart.
Please spit the gum out and don't chew it while talking and filming videos. Thank you. ♥️
I had to immediately turn off the live stream.
Question? when you guys' seat on the chairs by the island, are you guys able to see the entire frame of the tv? I hope your kids and both of you won't end up with neck pain after a while. but beside my question, is looking amazing. Love it!
Well God is sending you those animals to take care of Merina 😊. Just be careful and use your discernment ❤😊. God bless Girlfriend 😊
I love your decorating ideas but I am concerned about the tv and fridge ventilation. I'm worried they may overheat or possibly start a fire.
You guys are doing an amazing job with your house ❤
Merina and Shane. Have y’all thought about making a big table and use that extra space for a dining room? A sitting room sounds sad. And even though you might only use it for Thanxgiving, Christmas, Easter, birthdays, summer get togethers, and such, it will be well worth it when Nan can come and sit at the table at your house. And just make the area left by the fridge can be a much better sitting room. Just a thought. Love you all!!
I wish I could outlaw gum. 😝
😳
@lindadodd3829 I was just at the point in the video where she was talking about gum. I couldn't watch the live the other night because of it. 😢
Hello sweet friend. Every video is watched ASAP by my eyes. You two have done such a great job so far. Love those
countertops for sure.
I have to agree with the others about the fridge (and tv) having to breathe. QUESTION: Why not put a board at the front of the "box" and attach the tv to that? This way the tv will be closer to the front of the fridge and everyone will be able to see it (and the bottom edge) better. : )
Hi Merina
The Animal kingdom love ❤ you as much as we do. They sense your sweet nature. X
really cool idea to put the TV above the refrigerator but as sometime wasted space or becomes a junk area 😊
Also…
A little trick I use to remember horizontal and vertical is by thinking of ‘the horizon’ and sunrise or sunset. 🌅
Because in my mind I can automatically remember which direction that goes 😂
Put saran wrap to cover top, then you just pull off and replace, easy Peezy!
I just love you guys! Thanks for sharing your lives with us!
Shane is so smart that looks great
Hi Mernia. It's going to look very nice when it's done ❤
Be careful with that stray dog. If they are hungry or have a prey drive they will decimate your flock.
True!
@@lori3967 I've pretty much begged them to fence the property. Especially with Coyotes. Not only to protect the animals but the children too. I'm afraid something bad is going to happen and it will be too late.
Almost never comment but watch your videos faithfully. I will admit, I do prefer the 15 to 20 min videos. It's my ADD! 😂🤷♀️
Good evening Merina and Shane and family and thank you for sharing your beautiful home
I would clean the top of my fridge every week cuz of we lived near a dusty farm so I started putting a plastic like Sara wrap or what ever to cover the top. Cha vex it out every 2 weeks. Easy peasy. O more ha ing to scrub top of fridge every few days or so.
Happy Monday! Always a joy to see you on here.🌻🐩
Can’t wait to see the finished project.
Oh that’s a good idea and no more clutter on the top of the fridge!
Great job, yall. I would never think to put a tv over the fridge. I would just sit at the bar wanting to wat h tv as i ate. Lol, duuuu. Great thinking. The kids will love that.
Oh, that is such a great idea. It looks great! Many prayers and much ❤ from WV.
Hi Merina and Shane, I’m excited to see the finished project!❤
You guys have the best ideas!!!
When your done cleaning the top of ice box..Thenput a towel on top to keep it clean then you can change it..
Welcome new duckies! Elizabeth from Ohio
I don't have a TV in my kitchen, wish I did, but I have an Alexa Show... And it's awesome! I can play music on it whenever I want, youtube, or pop on a cooking show. Perfect.
