Great to see, everywhere needs to be accessible. I just wish enthusiastic people would get the facts right:- "....with an escort, go across the platform...." No, across the tracks.
Excellent work. But to me it seems two steps forward and one step back. The old stairs are completely enclosed so in rain and high winds you are protected from the elements. Plus incorporated in to the actual station building so the wait areas are protecting you as well. The new platform bridge has the new lifts of course but is FULLY exposed while crossing the tracks (on the bridge) and waiting for the lifts/walking up and down the stairs! And to get to it is exposed as well.
This gets you in the feels. Absolutely delighted for Dawlish. This journey has been close to my heart since the beginning (I have relatives nearby). I and my fellows also campaigned to get a lift in our local station, in Wales, for fourteen years. We finally got it in September 2020. It was amazing to finally have step-free access and go anywhere. Until 2023, when someone in TfW had the bright idea to replace the rolling stock. And now we are back to square one, because the new trains don't match the height of the platforms. Cheeky question: I wonder if BAM-Nuttal/Morgan Sindall could come back and fix it?
I've watched the videos from the beginning to the ending, absolutely enjoyed every moment, brings back so many happy memories of visiting Dawlish, our favourite place, thank you.
Thank you ladies for persevering with this campaign. If I had known there was one I would definitely have signed. I love visiting Dawlish, its my favourite place on this planet. When my boys were tiny, it felt very scary walking over the railway lines with a pushchair. Now years later with heart issues, I find climbing lots of steps a challenge. The improvements to the station are brilliant and its not before time that a lift has been installed, there should have been one years ago. Its taken a flood that almost washed the station away to make these improvements happen.❤
Am I the only person who saw the irony of cutting the ribbon at the bottom of the Stairs!! 🤣🤣🤣🍻
Yeah sort of see your point. Maybe more room than by the lift door
Yes... at that moment I was like... 🤔
Im sure it had a ramp at the west side with a foot crossing over the track
It did but wasn't accessible when the staff wasn't working.
Well done for all the planning, development and work that has made this possible
Indeed. :-)

Thanks Pam.

Well done ... when I was a kid if you had a pram .. you went to the end of the platform down the slope and over the lines
Congratulations to EVERYONE who had a part in achieving this level of accessibility for all.
