Very cool, learned a new thing or two about my car and it's engine watching this. Did you ever find out why the cylinder was misfiring in the older engine?
@@hoodratsgarage77 I see and thank you! My last big job was replacing the timing chains, tensioners, and guides in my 2006 Pathy. It was time after 160k and the 'supercharger' whine turned into a metallic grinding sound. Cheers!
I have a 2006 xterra offroad with 207k. Its not smoking or anything but i am having issuse with oil pressure. It started out with the oil gauge dropping to nothing at idle and the engine would stall (pain in the butt stopping at red lights) looked online and people said oil pressure sensor switch was bad so i changed it and now the oil gauge drops between the L and the bracket and the oil light comes on (oil is topped off). It rumbles and vibrates at idle but doesnt stall I know its not a misfire because i changed the coils and put new spark plugs in it recently. Shes a tired motor and i wanted to ask instead of changing parts on a tired motor (oil pump timing set) should i replace the motor with another with less miles? Did you have any problems putting a 2015 motor into a 2005? Does the trans housing meet up with the block the same? Is there differences in fitment between the years? Do i need different exhaust manifolds? I do apologize with the questions but i am getting really frustrated with the problems and been tracking down and fixing things and its not doing the trick. Buying a new suv is out of my price range but i can save for a newer less mileage engine and putting brand new parts on a tired engine kind of sucks because i dont know what else might wear out then i got to take it apart all over again (i do my own work on a gravel driveway😅) ive rebuilt older engines last one i did was an 351w out of an 1987 f150. Is it better to rebuild a nissan vq40de or just change it for a newer used engine?
The vq40 engines are horrible to work on. If you have a really worn-out one, a swap for a newer one is a good bet. The 2015 we installed was a direct replacement as long as you keep all of your bolt ons to the long block from your original engine. There is an extra sensor on the newer engines that can be left in place and not connected. Good luck with your project! Thanks for watching!
Most shops around here charge an average of $100-180/hour, book time for this job is around 15-18 hours...so that gives you a ball park of the labor cost. Customer supplied the engine, but I believe it cost around $1800-$2600 shipped. Then you need things like new gaskets, thermostat, spark plugs, engine oil, etc. Honestly...the repair was probably more than the vehicle was worth, but the customer knew that going into it and decided that was what they wanted to do.
I grew up in Nampa and used to race at Glen Morgan raceway just out of Star. I just finished up swapping the 4.0 I'm my 2006 pathfinder with a 2018 4.0 from LKQ, I only changed the oil pressure sensor due to budget and used new gaskets i did not swap vvt solenoids. I'm getting a P0031 heater control circuit bank 1 P0075 intake valve control solenoid circuit bank 1 P0335 powertrain crank shaft position sensor A circuit. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hey there! Glen Morgan looks like a blast, hope my 2-year-old races karts there some day! When I did the swap, I found it important to swap all of the sensors, the long blocks are the same throughout many years but many of the sensors from your original engine will bolt right up. As for the p0031 there is a good chance your donor engine took a good beating in shipping and that o2 sensor or its wiring is damaged. Our customer's engine was shipped, and most components were damaged in shipping (supplier stated that all parts had to be swapped over anyways, such as valve covers, manifolds etc. I am in no way a Nissan specialist, but with the p0335 I did see that they offer several different crank sensors for the VQ40DE and that one ranges from 2007-2015. That being said if you didn't swap sensors there is a chance you have the wrong one (the 2018 in trying to communicate to your 2006 ECU.) As for the P0075, in my video, you will see that I swap intake runners, fuel rails and intakes over, this is all due to the fact that throughout the years they had different variations, and you need the exact system for your 2006 on the 2018 engine. Any good Nissan parts dealer will be able to get you the part numbers for each component on your engine. From there you can verify if it is the part that is on the engine in your car now, if not you know what you need to do. Best of luck! -Nick
Your VVT and CKP codes could be related, I'd start just by changing the CKP sensor and cleaning your VVT solenoid, if that doesnt work maybe try swapping them but if that doesnt work its possible the cam phasers in the new engine aren't up to snuff. Is the engine running ok despite the codes?
I am about to pull my engine on my 2011 and not sure of the best way to lift it. Did you just wrap a bunch of chain around the lower intake? Looks like you did. Please let me know asap because this seems like the way.
@@hoodratsgarage77 I took a screenshot but it looks like you just wrapped the chain around the whole lower intake. I don't think you bolted it to the intake.
@@bertrenolds5 I looked at a picture I took, it is bolted to the lower intake. I wish I could share a picture...maybe this google drive link will work drive.google.com/file/d/1jWRqVNyGb-S42nRzkMaxLEcoA3_FZbZ-/view?usp=drivesdk
Was this something you do often ?
I don't see much in the background that is similar 😅
Ha! Yah we do alittle bit of everything, you should see the amount of weird construction stuff we have going on too.
Do you think the leakdown test was inaccurate due to the vvt system not having oil pressure?
Very cool, learned a new thing or two about my car and it's engine watching this. Did you ever find out why the cylinder was misfiring in the older engine?
Honestly cannot remember, but it had a ton of piston ring leak down on several cylinders. Thankyou for watching and good luck with your Nissan!

Didn't they quit making the Xterra altogether in 2015
You are correct. The engine we installed was from a Frontier.
What was the cost to do all this .if you don't mind me asking.

I have a 2.5 but only can find 4.0 ik it will fit but will it be a simple engine swap ??
I would assume the wiring harness and engine computer are not compatible.

I'm pretty sure we used longer bolts ran through the chains, into where the lower intake bolts to the cylinder head.

The chain was defiantly bolted to the bolts that holds the fuel rails to the lower intake manifold.

How much would you charge to do this to my 2006 xterra I’m in New Jersey
Im in New Jersey, whats your budget? Buy an engine I can swap it for you

Those Xterra engines are ugly as hell 🤮. Nothing beats Chevy engines from the 70s and 80s
What's really ugly is on the inside. The timing chain setup is a nightmare! Give me a simple classic v8 any day! Thanks for watching
