I did not notice any sort of buffs. I'll replay the beta again and double check. That's a good question. Some battles have gimmicks so Characters on certain areas will benefit from that. Also the characters have S-M-L. I haven't messed around to see what happens if you put an S character in the back row. In previous Suikoden games like 1 and 2 they would be unable to attack. Maybe now the accuracy is decreased but I'll verify.
